Wound Healing, Fibrosis, and the Myofibroblast: A Historical and Biological Perspective
Wound Healing, and the Myofibroblast: A Historical and Biological Perspective is the fruit of an interdisciplinary and international collaboration involving a historian of medicine (Dr. Zampieri), a physician (Dr. Coen), and a researcher (Prof. Gabbiani, world-renowned for his discovery of the myofibroblast). This book aims to draw a concise yet complete description of the conceptual evolution of wound healing, fibrosis and fibrosis-related pathologies from antiquity to present time, as well as commenting on the role of the myofibroblast and the key cell type essential for tissue repair and fibrosis (from its identification in 1971 throughout its 50-years-old history). By viewing this complex and century-long history from different perspectives, the book's authors aim to draw an exhaustive overview, with the hope of inspiring new and fruitful basic and clinical research
Chapter L’esperienza formativa di Anton Domenico Gabbiani a Venezia. Disegni e dipinti inediti
This paper aims to cast new light on Anton Domenico Gabbiani’s first sojourn in Venice, which took place between 1678 and 1681, by following the two main biographies of the artist, written by Ignazio Enrico Hugford and Francesco Saverio Baldinucci, and by analysing new archival documents. Specific attention is given to the constant study of artworks by the great Venetian masters of the Sixteenth century, especially Titian, to whom Gabbiani devoted himself also in his later years, copying famous masterpieces of the Cadore painter. Through some unpublished drawings of the Uffizi and new or little-known paintings, the Venetian component of Gabbiani’s style is identified in the way of composing and in the execution of airy and light figures. The highlights and intense Venetian colorism contributed to the creation of sophisticated chiaroscuro modulations expressed in the mimetic rendering of animals and landscape settings
In this article we present a brief synthesis of the research carried out in the project
“About the development of monographic works: argumentation and authorship as forms
of identity construction in the discipline” (CSE-CSIC, Udelar). The work is related
to a concern present in various areas about the difficulties involved in academic reading
and writing, and is part of the considerations that Udelar has been giving on student
academic trajectories due to the generalization of higher education.
Based on three central theoretical guidelines, namely, reading and writing in terms of
literacy practices, genres (discursive, textual), and authorship and argumentation as elements
of identity construction in monographic works, the project analyzes monographs
of the different degrees of the Facultad de Humanidades y Ciencias de la Educación,
questionnaires applied to teachers and students and a workshop on writing monographs
recorded in audio. The article discusses the theoretical implications of the topic, and
presents a brief summary of the topics discussed which are developed more widely in
Gabbiani and Orlando (2016).
The work aims at contributing to the creation of a discussion space on these issues with a focus on the needs that different areas of
knowledge present. Different cytoskeletal organization in two maturation stages of Discoglossus pictus (Anura) oocytes: thickness and stability of actin microfilaments and tropomyosin immunolocalization.
In Discoglossus pictus oocytes, the germinative area (GA) contains long and irregular microvilli where actin microfilaments are located. In the egg, the funnel-shaped dimple that originates by invagination of the GA is present. In the dimple both microvilli and microfilament bundles have a very orderly appearance. This report extends previous observations (Campanella and Gabbiani, Gamete Res 3:99-114, 1980) and shows that GA microfilaments are thinner (36 A average) than dimple microfilaments (60 A average), as measured in ultrathin section. Moreover, the interfilament distance is smaller in GA bundles than in the dimple bundles. To get an insight into actin organization in oocytes and eggs, we used an actin-depolymerizing factor (ADF) in which cryostat sections were incubated prior to immunofluorescent staining with antiactin antibodies. The microfilaments of the GA microvilli and partially of the oocyte cortex are resistant to ADF when compared to those in the dimple and the rest of the egg cortex. We also investigated immunocytochemically the presence of tropomyosin and found that this protein is localized in the dimple and in the cortex of oocytes and eggs but is absent in the GA
