No full textWhilst many organisations worldwide have stopped disclosing intellectual capital (IC), to the best of our knowledge, the only longstanding NPO still measuring, managing and reporting its IC is a large Italian non-profit organisation (NPO), ANPAS Piemonte. The main aim of the article is thus to investigate the reasons why ANPAS Piemonte continues to deal with IC, to examine the determinants of this choice, the costs and the benefits management gets from IC measurement, management and reporting. In other words, the paper aims to explore the IC reporting process from an internal, managerial point of view. The paper employs a case study methodology to address its aim and the main investigation tool on the IC reporting process was semi-structured interviews to the management of ANPAS Piemonte that launched and continues to carry on the IC project within the investigated NPO

No full textIn management literature, intellectual capital(IC) is considered the key driver of the competitiveadvantage of the third millennium enterprise firm; consequently,measuring, managing and reporting IC hasbecome a critical issue. Frameworks addressed to measureand report IC have proliferated, nevertheless the adoptionof these frameworks is not so widespread in practice. Thestrong call for critically investigating IC practices has beenraised by several leading authors in the area. Doing acritical and performative IC research means empiricallyresearching IC organisational practices in specific contexts,in order to increase the understanding of the IC dynamics.By critically analysing the IC practices of ANPAS Piemonte,an Italian non-profit organisation chosen for itslong-standing experience in issuing audited IC reports(from 2003 to 2011), the article contributes to the knowledgeof how and why IC is measured and reported in aspecific, outstanding NPO disclosing IC. Moreover, thecase study analysis contributes to shed lights on the leversand barriers that should be faced by other managersintending to implement and effectively use an IC measurement,management and reporting system withinorganisation

No full textThe article focuses on the analysis of external ICR practices in the non-profit sector, exploring why and how a NPO reports its IC.In detail, the paper focuses on the ICRs of an Italian non-profit organization (NPO), theANPAS Piemonte, a branch of ANPAS (Associazione Nazionale Pubbliche Assistenze), the largest volunteer federation of associations providing public interest services in Italy.In studying ANPAS Piemonte ICR practices, the authors briefly describe the changes which have taken place in the public and NP sector environments, as these provide the macro contextual factors within which ANPAS Piemonte formulates its ICR strategy. The authors selected ANPAS Piemonte as it is, to the best of their knowledge, one of the few NPOs with a longstanding experience in issuing IC reports.The main contribution of the article lies in having examined the ICRs of an NPO over time, adding empirical knowledge to the literature in the third sector so far dominated by how-to-do approaches and normative concepts
Modeling a coronal loop heated by magnetohydrodynamic turbulence nanoflares
No full textWe model the hydrodynamic evolution of the plasma confined in a coronal loop, 30,000 km long, subject to the heating of nanoflares due to intermittent magnetic dissipative events in the MHD turbulence produced by loop footpoint motions. We use the time-dependent distribution of energy dissipation along the loop obtained from a hybrid shell model, occurring for a magnetic field of about 10 G in the corona; the relevant heating per unit volume along the loop is used in the Palermo-Harvard loop plasma hydrodynamic model. We describe the results, focusing on the effects produced by the most intense heat pulses, which lead to loop temperatures between 1 and 1.5 MK

No full textL’articolo analizza la nozione di capitale intellettuale (CI) nell’ambito del settore sanitario, studiando un caso di una grande organizazione di ricerca che pubblica da diverso tempo un report del CI. Negli ultimi anni, le aziende sanitarie sonono state oggetto di grande attenzione in termini di implementazione e trasferimento di strumenti e modelli manageriali, ma si registra ancora una mancanza di attenzione al CI come risorsa fondamentale per supportare e migliorare le dinamiche di performance. Lo scopo principale dell’articolo è di esaminare i report del CI utilizzati da una organizzazione di ricerca nel settore sanitario, annoverata tra le best practices nella redazione dei bilanci del CI, il Centro di Medicina Molecolare in Svezia, al fine di sottolineare le lezioni appres
