Dalla terapia ortodontica intercettiva alla chirurgia ortognatica delle III ClassiI
OBJECTIVES. Skeletal Class III are a group of malocclusions characterized by an alteration of the relationship between the maxillary and mandibular skeletal base. In skeletal Class III the maxilla is behind the mandible which is in advanced position on the sagittal plane. The treatment op- tions are different according to the patient's age (child, adolescent, adult) and the type of malocclusion (maxillary skeletal retrusion, mandibular skeletal protrusion, mixed, skeletal asymmetry, skeletal and dental open-bite). MATERIALS AND METHODS. The different therapeutic options are discussed starting from interceptive orthodontic treat- ment and finishing with orthognatic surgery. CONCLUSIONS. The dialogue between doctor and patient is really impor- tant. It is appropriate to explain in detail the therapeutic approach required for the correction of malocclusion
Analisi facciale globale : approccio diagnostico-terapeutico multidisciplinare alla riabilitazione implantare complessa

L’obiettivo del presente lavoro è illustrare il percorso diagnostico di analisi facciale globale.
Materiali e metodi
Nel presente lavoro vengono forniti gli elementi per un percorso diagnostico razionale, indispensabile in casi riabilitativi implanto-protesici complessi.
Risultati e conclusioni
Attraverso un approccio facciale globale si riduce il rischio di non diagnosticare importanti alterazioni dento-scheletriche che possono pregiudicare la riabilitazione implanto-protesica.Objectives: To illustrate the diagnostic approach to total face analysis. Materials and methods: The factors for a rational diagnostic evaluation, that is essential in complex implant-prosthetic rehabilitation cases, are provided. Results and conclusions: Total face analysis reduces the risk of not diagnosing dental-skeletal alterations that may affect the outcome of an implant-prosthetic rehabilitation
Proposta di analisi cefalometrica 3D per un'analisi facciale globale in ortodonzia e implantologia
Obiettivi
L’analisi facciale globale è un approccio diagnostico che fornisce un quadro ampio e ben strutturato delle problematiche del paziente candidato a complesse riabilitazioni implanto-protesiche, a complessi trattamenti ortodontici o interventi di chirurgia maxillo-facciale. Gli obiettivi di questo articolo sono proporre alla comunità scientifica e clinica un modello di analisi cefalometrica 3D a scopo diagnostico in ortodonzia, chirurgia maxillo-facciale e implantare e illustrare le attuali potenzialità dei nuovi campi di acquisizione delle indagini 3D.
Materiali e metodi
Per sviluppare questo modello cefalometrico sono stati analizzati i rapporti scheletrici cefalometrici di 30 pazienti a cui era stata comunque richiesta una CBCT per formulare una corretta diagnosi e un successivo piano di trattamento. Non è stata richiesta l’approvazione del Comitato Etico dato che il clinico non ha fatto nulla di differente rispetto a un caso clinico di routine in cui viene richiesto un esame CBCT invece di molteplici esami 2D. L’analisi è stata effettuata con il software dedicato Materialise Simplant OMS (Leuven, Belgio).
Risultati
La dose radiogena somministrata e il tempo di esposizione influenzano la qualità dell’immagine. Confrontando le indagini radiografiche CBCT con le convenzionali TC-multislice si può rilevare come la CBCT sia l’esame di scelta per la ridotta esposizione alle radiazioni, l’accessibilità e il vantaggioso rapporto costi-benefici. L’analisi dei piani e l’analisi delle distanze fra i diversi piani forniscono utili indicazioni diagnostiche per individuare importanti alterazioni ossee e dentali.
Conclusioni
Si può quindi concludere che la proposta di analisi cefalometrica 3D può essere un utile strumento in fase diagnostica terapeutica nei casi ortodontici, di chirurgia maxillo-facciale e implantare in cui è richiesta una più approfondita valutazione di parametri scheletrici di tutto il distretto maxillo-facciale.Objectives: The Total Face Approach is a diagnostic evaluation that gives a comprehensive vision of the patient's parameters candidate to complex treatments in implant dentistry, orthodontics or maxillo-facial surgery. Such assessment needs a cephalometric 3D evaluation whose interpretation allows to formulate a correct diagnosis and an adequate treatment plan. The aim of this paper is to introduce the scientific community with a 3D cephalometric model for diagnostic purposes in orthodontics, maxillo-facial and implant surgery and to illustrate the potential of the latest 3D technologies. Materials and methods: To develop this cephalometric analysis, the intermaxillary skeletal relationships of 30 patients to whom a CBCT examination was prescribed for diagnostic purposes are presented. An approval of the Ethical Committee was not requested since the clinicians did not do anything different from a normal routine case in which a CBCT examination is requested instead of multiple 2D radiologic examinations. The analyses have been studied using a dedicated software (Materialise Simplant OMS, Leuven, Belgium). Results: The radiation dose and the exposure time influence the quality of the examination. Comparing CBCT to conventional CT scans, CBCT could become the examination of choice to lower the radiation dose. It is easily accessible and has an advantageous cost-benefit ratio. Conclusions: It can thus be concluded that our proposal of 3D cephalometric analysis can be defined a useful diagnostic tool. In all clinical cases of orthodontic surgery, maxillo-facial and implant surgery which request a more detailed evaluation of skeletal parameters regarding the entire maxillo-facial area. © 2012 Elsevier Srl. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
