A top-quark mass measurement feasibility study in the tt ̄ dilepton channel at LHC and at future hadronic colliders
This contribution documents the first efforts being taken to study the feasibility of a measurement of the top-quark mass at the Large Hadron Collider and future hadron colliders in pair production events in the dilepton channel
Vom Schutzwall zur Wall Street Ingo Schulzes Schelmenroman Peter Holtz, die Mauer und das System des Geldes
In the years of the 2008 world financial crisis and of the global protests of the Occupy-Movement, the German author Ingo Schulze writes a novel about the German reunification, in which he tells the story of the ‘GDR-rogue’ Peter Holtz fighting for a fairer society. In this novel Schulze challenges the question of the democratic quality of the political and economic world order arisen at the historical moment of the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Why does Schulze decide to write just a picaresque novel about the German reunification during the financial crisis after 2007? What is the additional value of this literary elaboration of the historical turning point of 1989? Why does money play such a significant role in this novel? The contribution expounds that Schulze retrospectively and critically retraces in his picaresque novel the way from the ‘anti-fascist rampart’ of the GDR to the moneycentred financial world of Wall Street. The article illustrates at the same time Schulze’s diagnosis according to which during the process of German reunification the West betrayed its own democratic values and against the background of the peaceful revolution in the GDR missed the historical chance to build a fairer future society. In the years of the 2008 world financial crisis and of the global protests of the Occupy-Movement, the German author Ingo Schulze writes a novel about the German reunification, in which he tells the story of the ‘GDR-rogue’ Peter Holtz fighting for a fairer society. Letteratura come progetto alternativo? I due straniamenti nel romanzo Die rechtschaffenen Mörder di Ingo Schulze
The article examines Ingo Schulze’s novel Die rechtschaffenen Mörder (2020) in the light of the considerations on estrangement expressed by the author in his speech for the Brecht Prize in 2013. This paper highlights how the novel is about two types of ‘estrangements’: the first, along Brecht’s lines, is at the service of committed literature, capable of representing an “alternative project” for society; the second, on the other hand, is functional to the author’s self-reflective moment and characteristic of the postmodern novel. The analysis of the novel argues that ‘estrangement’, from being a tool of political and social commitment aimed at demystifying power relations, ultimately becomes a merely formal device that preserves the status quo in the market of artistic forms produced by the “mass-democratic postmodernity” (Kondylis) in which Schulze operates, thus counteracting Brecht’s and perhaps even Schulze’s own initial aim.The article examines Ingo Schulze’s novel Die rechtschaffenen Mörder (2020) in the light of the considerations on estrangement expressed by the author in his speech for the Brecht Prize in 2013. New Physics signals from measurable polarization asymmetries at LHC
We propose a new type of Z polarization asymmetry in bottom-Z production at LHC that should be realistically measurable and would provide the determination of the so-called Ab parameter, whose available measured value still appears to be in disagreement with the Standard Model prediction; we discuss the overall expected precision of this measurement and its implications. If Supersymmetry is found, a second polarization, i.e. the top longitudinal polarization in top-charged Higgs production, would neatly identify the tan β parameter. In this case, the value of Ab should be in agreement with the Standard Model. If Supersymmetry does not exist, a residual disagreement of AbAb from the Standard Model prediction would be a clean signal of New Physics of “non-Supersymmetric” origin
Testing Bell Inequalities at the LHC with Top-Quark Pairs
Correlations between the spins of top-quark pairs produced at a collider can be used to probe quantum entanglement at energies never explored so far. We show how the measurement of a single observable can provide a test of the violation of a Bell inequality at the 98% C.L. with the statistical uncertainty of the data already collected at the Large Hadron Collider, and at the 99.99% C.L. with the higher luminosity of the next run. Detector acceptance, efficiency, and migration effects are taken into account. The test relies on the spin correlations alone and does not require the determination of probabilities-in contrast to all other tests of Bell inequalities

EOF analysis of complex response of Venice mobile gates
The complex dynamics of the Venice tidal barrier subjected to broadbanded wave spectra are investigated by applying empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis to experimental data sets. Space and frequency patterns of the natural modes of the barrier are reconstructed and satisfactorily compared with the recent theory of Li and Mei. The results indicate that when broadbanded wave spectra are considered, natural modes with the longest spatial wavelengths seem more likely to be excited than those with shorter wavelengths
