Milesi P, Süssenbach P, Bohner G, Megias JL. The interplay of modern myths about sexual aggression and moral foundations in the blaming of rape victims. European Journal of Social Psychology. 2020;50(1):111-123.Moral Foundations Theory proposes five intuition-based moral concerns: Care and Fairness ("individualizing foundations") as well as Loyalty, Authority, and Sanctity ("binding foundations"). In studies carried out in Italy, Spain, and Germany, the authors examined how these concerns are associated with the acceptance of modern myths about sexual aggression (AMMSA), and how both jointly predict rape victim blaming. Overall, victim blaming was positively predicted by Authority and Sanctity, and negatively predicted by Care and Fairness. Although victim blaming was best predicted by AMMSA, moral concerns also contributed to its prediction, partly independently, partly mediated through AMMSA, and in the case of Sanctity in interaction with AMMSA. Discussion highlights how integrating moral foundations in the investigation of victim blaming and AMMSA across different cultural contexts may deepen our understanding of why, in each cultural context, victim blaming and related beliefs are resistant to change

Strategic Circular Economy in Construction: Case Study in Sardinia, Italy

    No full text
The paper tackles a topic related to the use of prime material and recycled materials in construction, in the framework of the circular economy, where recycled aggregates can be considered, in part or even totally, as second prime materials for the construction sector. In particular, the authors describe the main phases of the MEISAR project, developing a circular cluster territorial model so that the quantity of recyclable materials can be estimated and geolocalized in the most appropriate processing plant, as well as assessing the potential market. In the study we combine spatial planning problems and industrial location factors of natural and recycled aggregates and concrete production plants through the geospatial representation of the MEISAR map. The closed market of Sardinia is analyzed and, in particular, the case study of the new soccer stadium in Cagliari, which involves the demolition of the existing stadium that will represent a source of "secondary" raw materials for the construction of the new stadium designed by the consortium Sportium

Testing times for global financial governance

Ignazio Angeloni believes that the increase in financial interdependence in recent decades has not been matched by sufficient progress in the international coordination among regulatory authorities. In fact, the international financial system has suffered from insufficient globalisation of regulatory and supervisory policies, not excessive globalisation of financial markets.

Sea Level Rise in Santa Clara County

    No full text
Presentation by Cristina Milesi, First Author, NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, CA at the "Meeting the Challenge of Sea Level Rise in Santa Clara County" on June 19, 2005 Santa Clara County, bordering with the southern portion of the San Francisco Bay, is highly vulnerable to flooding and to sea level rise (SLR). In this presentation, the latest sea level rise projections for the San Francisco Bay will be discussed in the context of extreme water height frequency and extent of flooding vulnerability. I will also present preliminary estimations of levee requirements and possible mitigation through tidal restoration of existing salt ponds. The examples will draw mainly from the work done by the NASA Climate Adaptation Science Investigators at NASA Ames
