No full textThis paper is an examination of Scheler’s first Biologievorlesung (1908/1909). After some introductory remarks about Scheler’s interest in the philosophical issues raised by biology, the Biologievorlesung is interpreted as an eidetic analysis of nature, in light of Husserl’s Third Logical Investigation; the paper shows how Scheler, on the basis of this analysis, takes a stand on the controversy between vitalism and mechanism in the philosophy of biology. Much attention is then paid to the theory of knowledge that Scheler develops in this biology lecture, where his later “theory of the three facts” (1910-1911) is largely prefigured. Finally, the paper explains how the Biologievorlesung might be seen as a further confirmation of the ambivalent relationship that Scheler had with phenomenological philosophy

No full textL’istituzione della metaetica come disciplina autonoma rappresenta il contributo della
filosofia novecentesca alla riflessione etica: di tale riflessione la metaetica costituisce
il livello più astratto, avendo per oggetto l’idea stessa di “teoria etica”, le sue implicazioni
semantiche, ontologiche, metafisiche, epistemologiche e psicologiche, nonché i
criteri che ne decidono l’accettabilità e l’adeguatezza. Scopo del testo, concepito
come supporto didattico per un laboratorio, è da un lato introdurre il lettore alla
conoscenza dei problemi di cui si occupa la metaetica, dall’altro presentare le due
opzioni teoriche che hanno dominato il panorama metaetico nella prima metà del
Novecento, vale a dire il cognitivismo e il noncognitivismo. Il testo è corredato da una
Sezione antologica che presenta passi tratti dai Principia ethica (1903) di G.E. Moore,
da Linguaggio, verità e logica (1936) di A.J. Ayer, insieme alla traduzione integrale di
un articolo di Ch.L. Stevenson su Il significato emotivo dei termini etici (1937).The establishment of metaethics as an autonomous discipline represents the contribution of 20th-century philosophy to ethical reflection: metaethics constitutes the most abstract level of this reflection, focusing on the very idea of "ethical theory," its semantic, ontological, metaphysical, epistemological, and psychological implications, as well as the criteria that determine its acceptability and adequacy. The purpose of this text, designed as a teaching aid for a workshop, is to introduce the reader to the problems addressed by metaethics on one hand, and on the other, to present the two theoretical options that dominated the metaethical landscape in the first half of the 20th century, namely cognitivism and non-cognitivism. The text is accompanied by an Anthology section that includes excerpts from G.E. Moore's *Principia Ethica* (1903) and A.J. Ayer's *Language, Truth, and Logic* (1936), along with the complete translation of an article by Ch.L. Stevenson on the emotional meaning of ethical terms (1937)
