No full textLa noción de libertad de movimiento juega un papel crucial en la obra de Hannah Arendt. Según afirma la autora alemana, es la más antigua y también la más elemental. Por un lado, la libertad de movimiento se convierte en condición indispensable para que la acción en sentido arendtiano pueda ser posible. Para nuestra autora, perseguida por los nazis, refugiada e inmigrante, que fue confinada en un campo de internamiento por el gobierno francés, la limitación de la libertad de movimiento se presenta como la condición previa a la esclavitud. Por otro lado, forma la base de la libertad en el pensar, la cual resulta fundamental para librarse de las ataduras, de los testamentos de las tradiciones, de los diversos corsés ideológicos o de la trepidante actividad mental que no deja opción al pensamiento genuino ni al juicio. Arendt tendrá pues muy claro que paralela a la libertad de movimiento en el mundo físico debe darse también esta libertad en el del espíritu. Es un asunto que le preocupa desde el comienzo de su obra. Cuando se pregunta sobre la libertad, Arendt avanzará en su constitutio a través de la pluralidad, la solitud y la amistad también in foro interno. Nuestra autora, a partir de Lessing, tratará de romper con sus propios temores sobre la quiebra identitaria. Aquí es donde Arendt se verá con mayores problemas, pues se topará con el axioma de no contradicción, al que rechazará y aceptará en lo que supone precisamente una contradicción de notable valor que nos conduce hacia un aspecto esencial de su pensamiento.The concept of freedom of movement plays a crucial work in Hannah Arendt’s work. The German author tells us that it is the most ancient freedom and also the most elementary. Freedom of movement becomes the indispensable condition for action, in the Arendtian sense of the word. The author, who was a refugee immigrant, pursued by the Nazis and locked away in an internment camp by the French government, considers any limitation on freedom of movement to be a prior condition of slavery. But freedom of movement underpins freedom of thought, which is fundamental to break out of our shackles, ridding ourselves of the testaments of traditions and other ideological straightjackets or the frenetic mental activity involved in breathing, which leaves no room for genuine thinking or judgement. Thus, Arendt is very clear that, parallel to the freedom of movement in the physical world, there must also be freedom of the mind. It is an issue that has concerned her from the beginning of her work. When asked about freedom, Arendt will always move her argument through plurality, solitude and friendship and take it into a more internal realm. Starting with Lessing, the author attempts to break away from her own fears regarding the breakdown of identity. Identification of an essential histidine residue at the active site of the tonoplast malate carrier from Catharanthus roseus

Journal of Membrane Biology. 1992;129(2):137-143.The involvement of a histidyl residue in the binding or translocation step was investigated in the malate carrier at the tonoplast of Catharanthus roseus cells. The transport rate was strongly stimulated when the pH of the incubation medium was decreased from pH 7.0 to 5.0. The histidine-specific reagent diethylpyrocarbonate (DEPC) efficiently inhibited the activity of the malate carrier. Inhibition developed rapidly and was completed after 5 min at a concentration of 2 mM DEPC. The original substrate, malate, partially protected the carrier from inactivation by DEPC. Other organic acids (citrate, quinate) which are known to affect the malate transport of isolated vacuoles or tonoplast vesicles also showed protective properties. Inhibition of malate transport on tonoplast vesicles can also be achieved by photooxidation in the presence of the dye Rose Bengal. Malate also proved to protect against inactivation. The results strongly support the notion that a histidyl residue(s) is involved either in the binding or translocation of malate and that the protonation of the histidyl residue is essential to provide a high rate of malate transport
