Bank capital and Basel 3 impacts on Italian banks
The issues raised by Basel III, with specific reference to the introduction of more stringent capital requirements, are numerous and touch upon different aspects, such as cost and profitability-related problems and the repercussions concerning strategies implemented by banks. Our aim is to clarify the impact on Italian banks. We will first present some general considerations addressing the main implications for bank management, before illustrating the results of a survey aimed at detecting possible fears and doubts, on the part of banks, with reference to the extent to which some of the capitalisation proposals included in the reform can actually be pursued
Anti-Money Laundering in Italian Banks
This paper focuses on some relevant aspects of a banking anti-money laundering system (training, information and regulatory development) in order to understand their impact on the enhancement of the customer risk assessment process

On the drivers of Corporate Social Responsibility in banks: evidence from an ethical rating model
The purpose of our paper is the construction of a multidimensional ethical rating model, based on many items that represent the most significant Corporate Social Responsibility drivers of the banks. The items considered have been drawn from literature and from corporate reporting and websites of banks and then subjected to content analysis. The model, applied to a sample of European banks, was divided into four areas of analysis (Disclosure; Organization and Management; Offer of Socially Responsible Instruments; International Agreements, Certifications and Indexes) to identify the most frequent ethical conducts and the
ones that require improvement measures. Our research highlights that banks pay more attention to the offer of socially responsible instruments and organization and management issues. On the contrary, the banks examined could enhance their socially responsible approach by reinforcing disclosure on Corporate Social Responsibility. In particular, there is a modest orientation towards disclosure on the basis of the triple bottom-line approach. Finally, as for international agreements, certifications and indexes, improvement actions are still needed: there are still many international principles which have not yet been adhered to and an increase in requests for more ethical/quality certifications and inclusion in reputational ratings would be desirable
La gestione del credito alla clientela
Gli obiettivi di apprendimento di questo capitolo sono i seguenti:
• comprendere il significato e le modalità operative secondo cui l’intermediario bancario valuta il merito creditizio del cliente e le caratteristiche di rischio della singola operazione di prestito;
• analizzare il ruolo del rating e delle garanzie nel processo di affidamento;
• conoscere i principali criteri seguiti dall’intermediario bancario nella composizione quali-quantitativa del portafoglio prestiti;
• esaminare brevemente gli strumenti e le tecniche adottati dagli intermediari per
la gestione avanzata del rischio di credito (cartolarizzazione, derivati creditizi).The objectives of this chapter are:
• understand the meaning and mode of operation that the intermediary bank assesses the creditworthiness of the customer and the risk characteristics of the single loan transaction ;
• analyze the role of the rating and the guarantees in the lending process ;
• know the main criteria used by the intermediary bank in the quantitative composition of the loan portfolio ;
• examine briefly the tools and techniques used by intermediaries to
advanced management of credit risk (eg securitization , credit derivatives )
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
