No full textBecker & Van de Graaf heeft in april 2010 een Archeologisch Bureauonderzoek en een Inventariserend Veldonderzoek (IVO) verkennende fase door middel van boringen uitgevoerd in verband met de geplande (her)ontwikkeling van een plangebied aan de Zomerzorgerlaan 2 te Bloemendaal. Gezien de ligging op een strandvlakte omsloten door strandwallen heeft het plangebied een hoge verwachting voor archeologische resten vanaf de Midden Bronstijd tot en met de Nieuwe tijd. Uit historisch onderzoek is gebleken dat het plangebied sinds eind 16e eeuw deel uit heeft gemaakt van het erf en de tuinen van een blekerij, later boerderij, logement, rusthuis en woonhuis.
Uit het booronderzoek blijkt dat het plangebied inderdaad op een strandvlakte ingesloten door strandwallen ligt. Waarschijnlijk lag er in de strandvlakte een klein duin of een verhoging die niet afgedekt werd oor de veenvorming op de rest van de strandvlakte. De top van het veen in het plangebied is veraard en op de top van het mogelijke kleine duin heeft zich een bodem gevormd. Op de top van het veen en in deze bodem kunnen eventuele archeologische resten bewaard zijn daterend tussen de Midden Bronstijd en de Vroege Middeleeuwen. In het pakket duinzand wat hier boven op is afgezet kunnen archeologische resten voorkomen uit de Late Middeleeuwen en de Nieuwe tijd

No full textIn opdracht van de gemeente Amstelveen heeft archeologisch adviesbureau Becker & Van de Graaf een Inventariserend Veldonderzoek (IVO) door middel van proefsleuven uitgevoerd aan de Handweg te Amstelveen, gemeente Amstelveen. Het onderzoek heeft plaatsgevonden op 24 en 25 juli 2010. De aanleiding voor het onderzoek zijn enerzijds de plannen om in het gebied huizen te bouwen en anderzijds de conclusie van het bureau- en booronderzoek waaruit gebleken is dat er archeologische resten in het plangebied aangetroffen kunnen worden

No full textBecker & Van de Graaf bv heeft in januari 2010 een archeologisch bureauonderzoek en een inventariserend veldonderzoek (IVO) verkennende fase uitgevoerd in verband met de geplande (her)ontwikkeling van het plangebied aan de Uitgeesterweg 3 in Limmen, gemeente Castricum.
Op basis van het bureauonderzoek heeft het plangebied een middelhoge tot hoge kans op het aantreffen van archeologische resten vanwege de verwachte ligging op een strandwal. Archeologische resten in het plangebied kunnen dateren vanaf de periode dat de strandwal is ontstaan in het Laat Neolithicum tot en met de Late Middeleeuwen.
Tijdens het veldonderzoek is een antropogene vondstlaag aangetroffen met archeologische indicatoren die gedateerd zijn tussen de Vroege Middeleeuwen C/Late Middeleeuwen B (8e t/m 15e eeuw) ) tot en met de Nieuwe tijd AB (16e t/m 19e eeuw). Deze indicatoren wijzen erop dat binnen het plangebied mogelijk een archeologische vindplaats uit deze perioden aanwezig kan zijn wat direct aansluit op de periode waarin Limmen ontstaan is en een bloeiperiode kende

No full textThis letter from Henry Becker, Chairman of The Scioto County Republican Executive Committee in Portsmouth, Ohio, accompanies a four page resolution drawn by the Committee in support of Harding as the Party's presidential candidate in the 1920 election. Adopted by the Committee on December 13, 1919, this resolution states his qualifications for re-nomination as a U.S. senator, and calls him to be the next Ohio candidate for president. Harding received many resolutions like this one from Ohio companies and organizations, voicing their support of his senatorship and urging him to run for president, or declaring their support after he announced his intention to run for office.
This letter is part of the Warren G. Harding Papers (MSS 345). This collection includes correspondence, business records, and other materials documenting Harding’s business career as owner and editor-in-chief of The Daily Marion Star, as well as the various stages of his political career. A significant portion of the collection, and what’s available on Ohio Memory, highlights his 1920 presidential campaign, spanning just before publicly announcing his candidacy to handily defeating Ohio Governor James M. Cox in the election. Correspondents include both Ohio and national businessmen, political figures, and ordinary citizens writing with questions, support, congratulatory notes, and campaign advice. Some of the most interesting insights into the tumultuous political climate in the U.S., the extreme factionalism within the Republican Party in Ohio, and Harding’s campaign strategies are described in letters between Harding and his campaign manager, Harry M. Daugherty. Some of the topics addressed include women’s suffrage, Prohibition, the League of Nations, African American representation and issues, and lingering peace negotiations following World War I
