Picemelinus irinae Alekseev & Grzymala, 2015, sp. nov.
Picemelinus irinae sp. nov. Alekseev & Grzymala (Figs. 8–9) Material examined. Holotype No. 890 - 5 [CCHH], male (Figs. 8–9). The beetle inclusion is preserved in a polished piece of transparent amber with a yellowish shade without any further fixation. The piece is small, irregular in form, with maximum length 12 mm and maximum width 8 mm. The syninclusions are represented by two trichomes. Etymology. Matronymic, this new species is dedicated to the mother of the first author—Irina I. Alekseeva. Type strata. Baltic Amber. Eocene. Type locality. Russia, the Kaliningrad region, the Sambian [Samland] peninsula, Yantarny settlement [formerly Palmnicken]. Description. Length 1.8 mm; moderately convex, elongate. Unicolored, black. Upper surface biseriate, clothed with very short pubescence, one seta arising anterad of each puncture, with additional short, numerous setae between primary pubescence (pruinose pubescence). Body length 1.9 × maximum body width. Elytral length 3.6 × pronotal length. Head. Eyes large, oval, hemispherical, with slight anterior emargination, well-separated from hind margin of head; interocular space narrower than one ocular diameter; temples approximately 1 / 3 of minimum ocular diameter; apical maxillary palpomere elongate triangular; vertex covered by pubescence equal in length and width to elytral pubescence. Antenna (Fig. 8 B) filiform, 11 -segmented, pubescent, reaching middle of elytra when folded backward; scape, antennomere III, and antennomere XI longest; antennomere length ratios: 14 - 4-20 - 5 - 5-6 - 6 - 6 - 6 - 6- 11; antennomere III with two apical projections forming cavity for antennomere IV. Thorax. Pronotum (Fig. 8 A) transverse, width 0.7 × length, widest apically, with very shallow impression laterad of basal angle, disc with pubescence indistinct, punctation dense and coarse. Scutellum subquadrate, without visible punctation or pubescence. Elytron with short, simple pubescence, moderately convex, with slight depression on disc in basal third near suture; sides weakly rounded; width 0.7 × length; punctation dense and coarse; punctures finer towards lateral aspects of disc. Abdomen. Separation of abdominal ventrite I and abdominal ventrite II visible medially and laterally. Legs. Metafemur simple, without visible brush or comb of modified setae. Metatarsomere I length 3.0× metatarsomeres II–IV combined, metatarsomere II bilobed, metatarsomere III concealed. Diagnosis. Picemelinus irinae sp. nov. differs from the only extant described member of this genus from Japan, Picemelinus flabellicornis (Pic, 1910), by the simple instead of flabellate antennomeres V–X. The 85th Anniversary of Academician V.V. Alekseev
In the article dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Veniamin V. Alekseev, the author traces the main milestones of the scientific biography of the prominent historian who is a well-known specialist in the field of national history and the theory of historical process and the founder of the Institute of History and Archaeology of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The paper considers the main stages of the formation of the scientist, his scientific, organizational and administrative activities in the field of historical science. The author highlights the scientific results of Academician V.V. Alekseev that made him well known in Russia and abroad, his theoretical and methodological studies and such large blocks of scientific research as the history of Russian modernizations, the phenomenon of Russian regionalism, the history of metallurgy of the Urals and industrial heritage. The article also focuses on the features of the scientific method of V.V. Alekseev and his merits in the formation of the documentary base for historical research
Some problems in the study of the chronology of the ancient nomadic cultures in Eurasia (9th - 3rd centuries BC)
This research is focused on the chronological investigations of ancient nomads belonging to the Scythian cultures which occupied the steppe and forest-steppe zones of Eurasia during the 9th-3rd centuries BC. The 14C dates for the pre-scythian and early scythian time in both Europe and Asia are presented and compared to their chronological position based on archaeological evidence. The first 14C dates have been produced for the Scythian time monuments located in the Lower Volga River basin, Urals and Transurals regions. Their chronological positions are compared with the position of the monuments of Southern Siberia and Central Asia. It was shown that the nomadic cultures belonging to the Scythian culture began to exist over the wide territory of Eurasia from the 9th-8th centuries cal BC and there are some monuments which may be synchronous to the Arzhan royal barrow (the oldest monument known). A list of new 14C dates and a map of the monuments are presented

LOST BOOK HERITAGE FROM THE HISTORY OF G. P. ALEKSEEV`S PRIVATE LIBRARY
Objective. The purpose is to highlight the history of the private library of the Katerynoslav figure in the context of the social and cultural life of an individual family of the 19th–early 20th centuries; to analyze a private collection according to subject and language features. Objective is the private library of G. P. Alekseev, a public and cultural figure. Methods. The study uses analytical-synthetic, system-structural, historical-biographical, and statistical methods. Results. Little-known pages of Ukrainian librarianship history are revealed; the boundaries of studying private book collections of public figures are expanded; the role of the individual in cultural development and creation of an intellectual circle of the region is determined. An important area of historical memory is highlighted, namely the revival and preservation of book heritage. Conclusions.The private library is an important center in the process of forming a network of Ukrainian libraries and creating a holistic picture of the cultural development of the province. The repertoire and content of the book collection of the Katerynoslav nobleman and honorary citizen G P. Alekseev testifies to the high level of the intellectual environment of the Ukrainian city. An outstanding representative of St. Petersburg historical school Yuriy Georgievich Alekseev
The article is devoted to the scholarly creativity of the professor of St. Petersburg State University Yury
Georgievich Alekseev (1926–2017). Being the apprentice of the well-known Soviet historian I. I. Smirnov,
Alekseev became one of the brightest representatives of the St. Petersburg (Leningrad) School of
historians — a famous scholar, remarkable lecturer and promoter of historical science. Among his
scientific interests one can find the problems of the social, economic and political history of ancient
and medieval Russia, the history of Russian legislation, agrarian history, military history, the history
of the Navy. The article analyses the work of Yu. G. Alekseev in the connection with the development
of the domestic historical science of the 20th and the beginning of the 21 centuries. Alekseev devoted
his books and articles to the agrarian history of Russia, the era of Ivan III and monuments of Russian
medieval legislation. In recent years he paid particular attention to the problems of Russia’s military
history. All his monographs are closely linked with one another, and all together dedicated to the formation
and development of the Russian State. The authors of the article attentively analyze the works
of Yu. G. Alekseev, paying close attention to his thorough and subtle work with sources and in-depth
knowledge of historiography. The authors compare Alekseev’s views on the evolution of the socio-economic
relations in medieval Russia with I. Ya. Froyanov’s conception of community conception and simultaneously
show the connection of these views with the legacy of N. P. Pavlov-Silvansky. Along with other
historians of the peasantry, among whom are N. E. Nosov, A. I. Kopanev, I. Ya. Froyanov, A. L. Shapiro,
and D. I. Raskin, Alekseev created new theory of the development of Russian peasantry and community
during 15th and 16th centuries. A main theoretical conclusion of Alekseev is his conceptualization of
the medieval Russian state as so called zemsko-sluzhiloie (land-service) State. This theory is a valuable
contribution to scholarship. Also of value are his works on the history of national legislation. One can
say that his works about the Pskov Judicial Act, Laws of Ivan III, statutory diplomas, his book devoted
to the shaping of the Russian administration are the ‘gold standard of national historical scholar’. His
contribution to the study of Russia’s medieval military history is multifarious. Alekseev studied the
campaigns of Russian troops under the rule of Ivan III and could reveal the large-scale reforms of the
Organization of the Office of the military business in Russia of the 15th and 16th centuries, particularly,
a qualitatively new level of command of the troops. The military victories of Ivan III, the liberation of
Russia from the horde’s dependency and the creation of a single State — all these achievements were
the result of the above-mentioned great reforms. Refs 62
