The reduction in protected regions of low frequency magnetic fields is a complex problem when the sources are not known. The paper proposes a procedure able to choose the best currents able to mitigate the disturbance field. The magnetic field is represented by suitable series of eigenfunctions in the domain of interest. The procedure includes a field identification step starting from a set of measurements and a current design step, possibly based on a preliminary design of specialized shimming coils sets
SEISMIC VULNERABILITY ASSESSMENT OF A 17TH CENTURY NEAPOLITAN FARM
In this paper, seismic vulnerability appraisement, restoration, and consolidation plan of a 17th century masonry building (Rossi farm) with cultural and artistic value located in a small city near Naples are reported and discussed. This case study is presented and described, providing historical data and information about its actual conditions, spaces, functions and structures. Once the crack pattern detected in the building has been appropriately traced, the knowledge is deepened by performing all the three seismic risk assessment analyses proposed by the “Italian Guidelines for the assessment and reduction of seismic risk of cultural heritage". The first evaluation level is a qualitative and simplified tool allowing for the knowledge of the risk level of the building under study. Afterwards, the structure has been subjected to more accurate investigations dealing with its local mechanisms and global behaviour in the second and the third evaluation levels, respectively. In all three analysis phases, the results have shown the high vulnerability of the masonry farm. Based on these results, a consolidation plan, according to the Cultural Heritage Italian Guidelines suggestions, has been proposed
La philosophie fichtéenne de la religion
The present essay tries to show the fundamental structures of Fichte's philosophy of religion after 1800. Particular attention is focused on the Introduction to a Blessed Life (1806) and the Theory of the State (1813). Theoretical knowledge, John's version of Christianity, and a new concept of the State are here interpreted as different faces of a strictly interconnected philosophical system. In his Berliner period, Fichte did not conceive the Subject any more as the "first principle" of his Doctrine of science, but rather as the transcendental "image" through which flows the stream of an undivided and spiritually transfigured Life. The present essay tries to show the fundamental structures of Fichte’s philosophy of religion after 1800.
Comparative analysis among different analysis programs for seismic vulnerability evaluation of a masonry building compound in the District of Naples
Masonry building compounds are sets of structural units having at least one common wall. The numerical analysis of the structural units grouped in aggregate, which are very diffused in Italian historical centres, is needed for identifying the structural interactions among them. Starting from these premises, in the current paper a masonry building aggregate built in the early twentieth century in the municipality of Cercola (district of Naples, Italy) and made of four structural units has been investigated as a case study. The structural behaviour under seismic forces has been investigated through non-linear static analyses. In particular, both the whole aggregate and the individual structural units have been modelled. Moreover, the single structural units have been considered both in the grouped and isolated conditions in order to assess either the beneficial or detrimental effect of the aggregated condition. The numerical models have been carried out with three different FEM software, namely 3MURI, CDS Win and Edilus, which schematise masonry buildings in different way. The analysis purpose has been to highlight the different results obtained with the three programs and to assess the most reliable seismic behaviour of investigated structural units. Finally, the susceptibility at damage of the case study aggregate has been evaluated through empirical fragility curves and mechanical vulnerability curves, which have been compared to each other and can be considered as preliminary tools to setup effective rehabilitation interventions
EXPERIMENTAL TILTING PLANE TESTS FOR THE ULTIMATE SHEAR ESTIMATION OF PERFORATED DRY JOINT MASONRY PANELS
In the paper simple experimental tests by tilting table for the estimation of the ultimate shear capacity of seven in-scale models of perforated in-plane loaded dry joint masonry panels are presented. The testing table is progressively tilted in quasi-static conditions up to achieve the limit tilting angle, representing the ultimate destabilizing horizontal action, which gives rises to collapse. The experimental program involved seven masonry panels designed by different University teams within a student competition proposed in the 10th international Masonry Conference (10th IMC), held at the Technical University of Milan in 2018. The aim was to design a running bond shear panel with established height over length ratio, a minimum perforation ratio equal to 30% of the area and clay bricks with given dimensions disposed in either stack or running bond. The winning team was that obtaining the largest inclination angle of the tilting plane activating the collapse of the structure
Seismic vulnerability assessment and consolidation techniques of ancient masonry buildings: The case study of a Neapolitan Masseria
In this paper, the seismic vulnerability appraisement, together with repairing and consolidation operations, of a masonry building with cultural and artistic value located in a small city near Naples are reported and discussed. After a brief digression about the condition of historical and cultural Italian heritage damaged by seismic events and usually in poor condition due to a lack of maintenance, the case study is presented and described, providing not only historical news but also information about as-built status, spaces, functions and structural issues. Once the principal failure modes affecting the building are identified, the estimation of seismic vulnerability is performed through three different evaluation levels given by the Italian Guidelines on Cultural Heritage. The analysis results, compared to each other, have shown the problems and the high vulnerability degree of the building. Finally, according to the Italian Guidelines, the consolidation and upgrading interventions are proposed and described to ensure a safety use of the Masseria under seismic actions
