Goffredo Parise and the Orient: a continuous fascination for alterity

    No full text
The article deals with the dialogue between Italy and China in Goffredo Parise’s work. It shows that Parises’s deep contact with the oriental cultures changed his narrative process through new stylistic devices and methodological tools. Drawing on the work of the French philosopher and sinologist François Jullien about the logos and the principle of non-contradiction, as well as efficacy and action versus transformation, the article demonstrates that Chinese and Japanese journeys mark a crucial moment for Parise’s activity as journalist (Dear China, 1966 and Elegance is frigid, 1982) as well as author of short stories (Solitudes, 1972-1982)

Circular innovation ecosystem orchestrators: a capabilities-as-routines-bundles framework

    No full text
Sustainability transition can create novel opportunities for innovation. Creating a circular innovation ecosystem helps firms acquire diverse and novel knowledge, finding partners and configuring environmental and social solutions through collective efforts, ultimately boosting sustainability success. Through a multiple embedded case study of initiatives (routines) of an orchestrator of a circular innovation ecosystem in the coffee industry, this study investigates the bundles of routines that form capabilities required for the development and orchestration of a circular innovation ecosystem. We develop a ‘capability as routines bundle’ framework finding three circular orchestration aggregated capabilities–namely, strategy towards a purpose, organising for stakeholders’ alignment, end to end solution configuration and deployment. Our findings have implications for the literature on circular innovation ecosystems and related capabilities, as well as for ecosystem orchestrators

Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Syndrome (OSAS) and rhino-tubaric disfunction in children: therapeutic effects of RME therapy

The aim of the study was to evaluate if RME (Rapid Maxillary Expansion) therapy could improve both the patency of the nasal airways and the Obstructive Sleep Apnoea Syndrome (OSAS). 42 children with a case history of oral breathing, snoring and night time apnoeas were studied. Selection criteria were: no adenotonsillar hypertrophy, Body Mass Index (BMI) below 24 and a malocclusion characterised by a narrow upper jaw, determined by postero-anterior cephalometric evaluation. Patients underwent an ENT visit with auditory and respiratory tests including daytime a sleepiness questionnaire, a 19-channel polysomnography, and an orthognatodontic examination; finally the patient underwent X-rays investigations. All the investigations were carried out before orthodontic therapy (T0), after one month (T1) with the device still on, and 4 months after the end of the orthodontic treatment which lasted for about 6-12 months (T2). All the changes induced by RME on the upper jaw and nasal septum were analysed by postero-anterior cephalometric evaluation in T0, T1 and T2. In all treated cases, the authors obtained an opening of the midpalatal suture; this was confirmed both by intraoral occlusal X-rays and postero-anterior cephalograms. The results reported by the 42 patients studied show that the R.M.E. therapy widens the nasal fossa and releases the septum thus restoring a normal nasal airflow with disappearance of obstructive sleep disordered breathing. Changing the anatomic structure, RME brought a significant functional improvement. Therefore the orthodontist can play an important role in the interdisciplinary treatment of OSAS patients

Una scrittura della memoria. Le prose e i versi di Maria Attanasio

Maria Attanasio (born in 1943) is an author of novels, stories, poetic collections, essays and a photographic book illustrated by the shots of Giuseppe Leone, a refined iconotesto whose subtitle reveals a clear Sciascian inspiration: Il divino e il meraviglioso. Feste religiose in Sicilia. The work of Attanasio, who published with Sellerio short novels such as Correva l’anno 1698 e nella città avvenne il fatto memorabile, Di Concetta e le sue donne and Il falsario di Caltagirone, is in some ways close to the formula of the Sciascian “cronachette”, which the writer has renamed “little chronicles” (“piccole cronache”). In her novels and in her verses the problems of memory, of archives, of documents and therefore of re-writing are central
