Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
EVALUACION DE LA CAPACIDAD INMUNOGENICA DE LA VACUNA ORAL S3Pvac - PAPAYA CONTRA LA CISTICERCOSIS PORCINA
INTRODUCCION: La Teniosis y cisticercosis son parasitosis causadas por Taenia
solium, siendo endémicas en países subdesarrollados, en donde afectan
principalmente a la salud humana y a porcinos criados en ambientes rústicos. Con el
fin de controlar este parásito, se han desarrollado vacunas experimentales. La
vacuna recombinante S3Pvac-papaya se basa en la expresión de tres péptidos;
KETc12, KETc1 y KETc7 en callos embriogénicos de papaya, los cuales han
demostrado inducir una respuesta inmune en murinos.
OBJETIVO: Evaluar la respuesta inmune celular y humoral en cerdos vacunados con
S3Pvac-papaya, a través de la proliferación celular linfocítica y por ELISA.
MATERIAL Y METODOS: Se realizo un estudio experimental aleatorizado de una
vacuna contra cisticercosis porcina vacuna S3Pvac-papaya, prospectivo, longitudinal
con 30 porcinos de 2 a 3 meses de edad de la comunidad rural (San-Andrés
Azumiatla) fueron incluidos: 16 porcinos en el grupo vacuna y 15 en el grupo
placebo. La administración de la vacuna fue por vía oral, en 2 dosis de vacuna de
250 mg de cada péptido con intervalo de 15 días entre cada administración. Los
cerdos fueron sangrados al tiempo 0 (basal), 15 y 30. Se determino la capacidad
proliferativa de las células linfoides periféricas, por la reducción de la sal de tetrazolio
a formazan. La producción de anticuerpos específicos contra Taenia solium fue
realizada por el ensayo inmunoenzimatico revelado por medio de densidad óptica
(ELISA). RESULTADOS: La capacidad proliferativa de las células linfoides fué demostrada,
con la prueba exacta de Fisher entre ambos grupos, en el día 15 (p= 0.0085) y 30
(p=0.0192), en donde encontramos una diferencia significativa. Así mismo en el día
15 aumento el titulo de anticuerpos en el grupo vacuna, en donde encontramos
significancia estadística (p= 0.0476), pero no en el día 30.
CONCLUSIONES: La vacuna S3Pvac-papaya evaluada en porcinos demostró ser
capaz de inducir una respuesta inmune celular, que en estudios futuros podríamos
reevaluar con un tamaño de muestra más grande y con un seguimiento mayor.
Planeando a futuro evaluar la capacidad protectora por medio de la infección con
huevos de T.solium y así con certeza poderla considerar como una herramienta
disponible para el control de la cisticercosis porcin

in developing countries, where they mainly affect human health and rustic pig
breeding. In order to control this parasite experimental vaccines have been
developed. The recombinant S3Pvac-papaya vaccine, is based on the expression of
three peptides; KETc12, KETc1 y KETc7, by embryogenic callus of papaya and has
been shown to induce immune response in mice.
OBJECTIVE: Evaluate the cellular and humoral immune response in pigs vaccined
by S3Pvac-papaya, through lymphocytic cell proliferation and by ELISA.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This work was a randomized vaccine trial against
swine cysticercosis (candidate S3Pvac-papaya versus placebo). Thirty piglets from a
rural community (San-Andrés Azumiatla) were included: sixteen in vaccine group and
fifteen in placebo group. Administration of vaccine was done per os in pigs aged from
2 to 3 month in two dose of 250mg at 15 days of interval. Blood samples were
collected at 0, 15 and 30 days after the last dose of vaccine. The peripherical T-Cell
proliferative capacity was determined by the reduction of tetrazolium salt (tetrazolio a
formazan). The production of specific antibodies directed against Taenia solium was
evaluated by Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay (ELISA).
RESULTS: The proliferative capacity of lymphoid cells, was found with Fisher´s exact
between groups, in day 15 (p= 0.0085) and day 30 (p= 0.0192), where we found significant difference. Also on day 15 increased the antibody titer in the vaccine
group, where we found statistical significance (p = 0.0476) but not at day 30.
CONCLUSIONS: S3Pvac-papaya vaccine is able to induce a cellular response, that
future studies could assess a larger sample size and longer follow-up. Future plans to
evaluate the protective capacity by infection with eggs and thus certainly T.solium

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
