    No full text
+++ This dataset presents the provenance references contained in the books of the historical collection of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Library and decodes them. It is the result of a project by Prof. Dr. Thomas Fuchs, who completed his traineeship at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Library from 2003 to 2005.</p

Allergic contact dermatitis - misdiagnosed as a food allergy due to bioresonance examination

Approximately 3 months prior to examination in the department, a 45-year-old female lawyer developed eczema of the face and neck. A dermatologist and allergist had diagnosed multiple food allergies by bioresonance technology, but neglected to perform skin tests. Following the doctor's recommendation, the patient avoided gradually more and more foods. Actually, her diet consisted of a certain kind of spelt bread, bananas, potatoes, pasta, butter, egg and salt. During the diet, she lost more than 10 kg of weight. The skin disease did not improve. The patient refused treatment with topical corticosteroids due to possible side effects. She reported an exacerbation of her dermatitis following the application of prednicarbate. Therefore, oral therapy with prednisolone was done. This improved the dermatitis. After completion, the eczema worsened again. The patient is otherwise healthy with no signs of atopic disposition and no other allergies. We performed patch tests for the first time in this patient. This revealed an allergic contact dermatitis mainly due to her cosmetics with positive reactions to methylchloroisothiazolinone/methylisothiazolinone (MCI/MI), fragrances and prednicarbate. Bioresonance is an allegedly diagnostic and therapeutical method invented and introduced to the market in the late 1970s. It is popular in alternative medicine in many, especially German-speaking, countries. Bioresonance is a controversial subject. Scientific studies did not show any effects other than placebo. The results of smaller studies suggesting efficacy in allergic diseases were not reproducible at all

Allergology inpatient treatment in the recent system of diagnosis-related groups (DRG). An update on the DRG-catalogue of 2007

In 2003 the German health financing system for inpatients was converted from a time-related system to a system of diagnosis-related groups. This constituted a fundamental change in hospital finance management. Since 2004, the catalogue of diagnosis-related groups has been revised on an annual basis. The underlying calculations are based on data sets from all participating hospitals. However, these calculations do not directly base on evidence-based medical data. The current financial situation for hospitals in Germany is greatly influenced by external factors such as rises in value-added tax, wage agreements, and increased energy costs. Cost unit calculations are rarely compiled in German clinics, and most benchmark analyses are based on estimated cost data. As an illuminating example for allergology-related afflictions we present the cost analysis for immunotherapy using hymenoptera, venom, drug provocation tests and chronic urticaria. This is compared to dermatological cases such as atopic eczema and erysipela. The daily cost of coverage was calculated. For the cases presented, a comparison of these costs over recent years shows a substantial decline. This development is not only a phenomenon in clinical treatment of allergological diseases but is also seen in dermatological inpatient treatment. Thus, a course for consequent optimization and rationalization is required. Therefore, a critical appraisal of economic factors, together with medical expertise in daily clinical routine, has to be considered. Furthermore, the health financing system must be consistently oriented around evidence-based medical criteria. These are conditions that must be met in order for funding and costs of good clinical practice to break even
