    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Both spending and tax policies have been implemented in the United States with the goal of stimulating private sector research and development (R&D). Karier questions whether current R&D policy, especially the research and experimentation tax credit, can contribute to closing the gap between nondefense expenditures on R&D in the United States and such expenditures in other countries, such as Japan and Germany. He also explores possible changes to our current R&D policy to make it more effective.

Forum of Mathematics, Sigma. 2024;12: e71.**Abstract** Let π\pi be a cuspidal, cohomological automorphic representation of an inner form G of PGL2\operatorname {{PGL}}_2 over a number field F of arbitrary signature. Further, let p\mathfrak {p} be a prime of F such that G is split at p\mathfrak {p} and the local component πp\pi _{\mathfrak {p}} of π\pi at p\mathfrak {p} is the Steinberg representation. Assuming that the representation is noncritical at p\mathfrak {p} , we construct automorphic L\mathcal {L} -invariants for the representation π\pi . If the number field F is totally real, we show that these automorphic L\mathcal {L} -invariants agree with the Fontaine–Mazur L\mathcal {L} -invariant of the associated p -adic Galois representation. This generalizes a recent result of Spieß respectively Rosso and the first named author from the case of parallel weight 22 to arbitrary cohomological weights. </p

    A low-phase-noise 5GHz quadrature CMOS VCO using common-mode inductive coupling

    A new concept for quadrature coupling of LC oscillators is introduced and demonstrated on a 5GHz CMOS VCO. It uses injection-locking through common-mode inductive coupling to enforce quadrature. The technique provides quadrature over a wide tuning range without introducing any phase noise- or power consumption increase. The realized VCO is tunable between 4.6GHz and 5.2GHz and measures a phase noise lower than –124dBc/Hz at 1MHz offset over the entire tuning range. The circuit draws 8.75mA from a 2.5V supply

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Mouse sets in L(R)

    Given a nicely definable set X of reals, it is natural to ask whether X is just the set of reals of some mouse. In many instances, this is known to hold. We will discuss some newly established instances in which X is the set of reals which are ordinal definable over some level of L(R) at a certain degree of complexity. This uses joint work with Steel on correctness of mice in L(R), combined with related work of the author on ladder mice
