    Guidance for systematic reviews in journal author instructions: findings and recommendations for editorial teams

    Introduction: Systematic reviews play a crucial role in informing clinical decision‐making, policy formulation, and evidence‐based practice. However, despite the existence of well‐established guidelines, inadequately executed and reported systematic reviews continue to be published. These highly cited reviews not only pose a threat to the credibility of science but also have substantial implications for medical decision‐making. This study aims to evaluate and recommend improvements to the author instructions of biomedical and health journals concerning the conducting and reporting of systematic reviews. Methods: A sample of 168 journals was selected based on systematic reviews published between 2020 and 2021, taking into account their Altmetric attention score, citation impact, and mentions in Altmetric Explorer. Author instructions were downloaded, and data extraction was carried out using a standardized web form.Two reviewers independently extracted data, and discrepancies were resolved by a third reviewer. The findings were presented using descriptive statistics, and recommendations for editorial teams were formulated. The protocol is registered with the Open Science Framework Registries (osf. io/bym8d). Results: One‐third of the journals lack tailored guidance for systematic reviews, as demonstrated by the absence of references to conducting or reporting guidelines,protocol registration, data sharing, and the involvement of an information specialist.Half of the author instructions do not include a dedicated section on systematic reviews, hampering the findability of tailored information. The involvement of information specialists is seldom acknowledged. Ultimately, the absence of an update date in most author instructions raises concerns about the incorporation of the most recent developments and tools for systematic reviews.Conclusion: Journals that make substantial contributions to synthesizing evidence in biomedicine and health are missing an opportunity to provide clear guidance within their author instructions regarding the conducting and reporting of reliable systematic reviews. This not only fails to inform future authors but also potentially compromises the quality of this frequently published research type. Furthermore,there is a need for greater recognition of the added value of information specialists to the systematic review and publishing processes. This article provides recommendations drawn from the study's observations, aiming to help editorial teams enhance author instructions and, consequently, potentially assisting systematic reviewers in improving the quality of their reviews

    What do journals' author instructions state on search methods for systematic reviews : from evidence to implementation

    Background: While methodological standards, reporting guidelines, and quality assessment checklists for systematic reviews exist, the persistent publication of systematic reviews with low quality searches raises concerns. Given the critical role of systematic reviews in shaping clinical practice and policies, ensuring their quality is essential. In our prior study, currently under revision byCochrane Evidence Synthesis and Methods, we evaluated and recommended improvements to the author instructions of biomedical and health journals concerning the conducting and reporting of systematic reviews. Objectives: This implemention project aims to disseminate our research findings, implement the recommendations derived from our evaluation, ultimately contributing to enhancing the quality of published systematic reviews. Methods: By actively involving key stakeholders (including editors, editorial organizations, peer reviewers, authors, and information specialists), we will strategically disseminate our research findings. Simultaneously, we will formulate specific milestones and objectives, develop a comprehensive implementation plan, and assess the impact of our recommendations.     Andras Ratnieces pētījumā tika analizētas lomu rotaļas saskarsmes veicināšanai 5 gadus veciem bērniem pirmsskolas izglītības iestādē. Pētījuma teorētiskajā daļā, pamatojoties uz Ļ. Vigotska, D. Dzinteres, D. Lieģenieces, S. Omārovas, G. Svences, A. Vorobjova u.c autoru atziņām, tiek analizētas teorētiskās nostādnes par saskarsmes prasmēm, kā arī saskarsmes prasmju veidošanās vecākajā pirmsskolas vecumposmā un teorētiskās nostādnes par lomu rotaļām. Pētījuma empīriskajā daļā autore analizēja lomu rotaļas saskarsmes veicināšanai 5 gadus veciem bērniem konkrētā kultūrvidē –pirmsskolas izglītības iestādē X. Zinātniskā vadītāja: Dr.paed., asociētā profesore Baiba Kaļķe. Kvalifikācijas darbā pētīti faktori, kas nosaka un ietekmē vārda krājuma bagātināšanu ar krāsu nosaukumiem. Teorētiskajā daļā tiek analizēta pedagoģiskā un psiholoģiskā literatūra par sižeta lomu rotaļām un bērna vecumposma īpatnībām pētāmās problēmas aspektā, runas un valodas attīstību, dialogruna trīs gadu veciem bērniem. Empīriskajā daļā aprakstīta pētījuma gaita, kurā tiek analizētas sižeta lomu rotaļas kā viena no iespējām bagātināt bērnu vārdu krājumu ar krāsu nosaukumiem. In the theoretical part, there is analysis of educational and psychological literature about storyline role plays and the peculiarities of child’s age group in the aspect of problem to be investigated, speech and language development, dialogue speech of three years old children. In the empirical part, there is course of this study described, in which the storyline role plays are analyzed as one of the possibilities of children vocabulary enrichment with color names.     Citizenship, Co-ethnic Populations and Employment Probabilities of Immigrants in Sweden

    Over the last decades, Sweden has liberalized its citizenship policy by reducing the required number of years of residency to five for foreign citizens and only two for Nordic citizens. Dual citizenship has been allowed since 2001. During the same period, immigration patterns by country of birth changed substantially, with an increasing number of immigrants arriving from non-western countries. Furthermore, immigrants were settling in larger cities as opposed to smaller towns as was the case before. Interestingly, the employment integration of immigrants has declined gradually, and in 2006 the employment rate for foreign-born individuals is substantially lower compared to the native-born. The aim of this paper is to explore the link between citizenship and employment probabilities for immigrants in Sweden, controlling for a range of demographic, human capital, and municipal characteristics such as city and co-ethnic population size. The information we employ for this analysis consists of register data on the whole population of Sweden held by Statistics Sweden for the year 2006. The basic register, STATIV, includes demographic, socio-economic and immigrant specific information. In this paper we used instrumental variable regression to examine the "clean" impact of citizenship acquisition and the size of the co-immigrant population on the probability of being employed. In contrast to Scott (2008), we find that citizenship acquisition has a positive impact for a number of immigrant groups. This is particularly the case for non- EU/non-North American immigrants. In terms of intake class, refugees appear to experience substantial gains from citizenship acquisition (this is not, however, the case for immigrants entering as family class). We find that the impact of the co-immigrant population is particularly important for immigrants from Asia and Africa.     Kvalifikācijas darba nosaukums ir “Pasaku izmantošana 5-7 gadīgu bērnu savstarpējās saskarsmes veicināšanai”, darba autors Andra Feldmane. Darba mērķis: Teorētiski analizēt un praktiski pētīt pasaku izmantošanas iespējas 5-7 gadīgu bērnu savstarpējās saskarsmes veicināšanā. Saskarsme ir ļoti nozīmīga cilvēku dzīvē, lai veidotu attiecības ar apkārtējiem cilvēkiem. Sākumā saskarsmi bērns mācās no pieaugušajiem, tikai vēlāk viņiem kļūst svarīgs arī apkārtējo vienaudžu vērtējums. Tomēr pieaugušā vērtējums un pašapliecināšanās bērniem ir ļoti svarīga. Bērniem 5-7 gadu vecumā kļūst vajadzība apliecināt sevi, savu neatkarību, varēšanu. Tādēļ arī viņi nonāk konfliktsituācijās ar saviem vienaudžiem. Katrā pirmsskolas iestādes grupiņā būs dažādi bērni ar individuālu audzināšanu, prasībām un vajadzībām. Pasaku izmantošanas paņēmieni ir ļoti daudzveidīgi, tās ir tematiski visaptverošas tādēļ viegli integrējas jebkurā darbības veidā. Pirmajā nodaļā autore analizē pedagogu un psihologu atziņas par saskarsmi. Otrajā nodaļā autore analizē bērnu savstarpējo saskarsmi. Trešajā nodaļā autore apskata pasaku izmantošanas paņēmienus bērnu audzināšanā un saskarsmes veidošanā. Ceturtajā nodaļā, jeb empīriskajā pētījumā autore analizē bērnu savstarpējās attiecības izmantojot latviešu tautas pasakas. Tajā analizēti un apkopoti novērojuma rezultāti par 5-7 gadīgu bērnu savstarpējo saskarsmi. Veiktā pētījuma rezultāti apstiprina pasaku pozitīvo ietekmi uz bērnu savstarpējām attiecībā, un iesaka tās izmantot pedagoģiskajā procesā pirmsskolā. The research results prove the positive influence of fairytail usage on children communication between them, and reecommends using them in the teaching process in preschool. Bakalaura darba nosaukums ir „Autoritāras valsts vadītāja un demokrātiskas valsts vadītāja fotogrāfiju semiotika un ar tām saistīto politisko mītu salīdzinošā analīze. (Atpūta, 1939, un Ieva, 2006)”. Tā teorētiskais pamatojums ir Rolana Barta semiotikas teorija par mīta radīšanu un Kristofera Flada teorija par politisko mītu, jo analizētas tiek politiķu fotogrāfijas. Tā kā K. Ulmanis ir autoritāras valsts vadītājs, apskatīta arī propagandas teorija. Darbā izmantotās pētnieciskās metodes ir salīdzinošā analīze un rāmējums. Analīzei konkrētie žurnāli izvēlēti, jo tie ir attiecīgo laika posmu populārākie (ar lielāko tirāžu) nedēļas žurnāli ar līdzīgu pozicionējumu nacionālajā presē. Bakalaura darbā politiķu fotogrāfijās tiek atrastas un salīdzinātas zīmes, no kurām konotāciju līmenī rodas simboli, ko savukārt izmanto politisko mītu veidošanai.
