    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    This master thesis describes an extension of a quantum embedding method called local potential functional embedding theory (LPFET). We have been able to find in-principle-exact connection between Kohn-Sham density functional theory (KS-DFT) and density matrix embedding theory (DMET), and based on this we have found a similar algorithm for more general, nonuniform model Hamiltonian operators (the Hubbard model). On the basis of this connection, we present a new embedding scheme with similar simplifications. The results shown in this work demonstrate that the generalized version of the LPFET successfully computes the electron density and energy of low- and medium-correlated systems. The newly developed extension of the method serves as a first step in extending the LPFET algorithm to applications in chemical ab initio Hamiltonian operators.Magistrsko delo opisuje razširitev metode kvantne vložitve imenovane teorija vložitve funkcionala lokalnega potenciala (LPFET). Uspeli smo najti teoterično eksaktno povezavo med Kohn-Shamovo teorijo gostotnega funkcionala (KS-DFT) ter teorijo vložitve s pomočjo gostotne matrike (DMET) in na podlagi tega najti podoben algoritem za splošnejše, nehomogene modelne Hamiltonove operatorje (Hubbardov model), na podlagi te povezave pa smo predstavili novo shemo vložitve s podobnimi poenostavitvami. Prikazani rezultati prikazujejo, da nadgrajena različica LPFET uspešno izračuna elektronsko gostoto ter energijo nizko in srednje koreliranih sistemov. Novonastala razširitev metode služi kot prvi korak razširitvi algoritma LPFET na uporabo v kemijskih ab initio Hamiltonovih operatorjih

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

    Les travaux présentés dans ce manuscrit de thèse peuvent être divisés en deux parties. Dans une première partie, nous nous sommes intéressé à une extension multiconfigurationnelle de la théorie de la fonctionnelle de la densité (DFT) par l'intermédiaire d'une séparation de portée permettant un traitement hybride entre DFT et fonction d'onde multiconfigurationnelle « state-averaged ». Ainsi, nous récupérons en même temps la corrélation dynamique et la corrélation statique. De plus, cette étude est réalisée en considérant la DFT pour les ensembles afin de considérer une alternative à la méthode usuelle utilisée (DFT dépendante du temps) pour la détermination des états excités d'une molécule, évitant ainsi certains problèmes théoriques rencontrés avec cette approche. En particulier, les intersections coniques entre états excités nous intéressent particulièrement car il s'agit de cas pour lesquels une approche multiconfigurationnelle est primordiale. Dans une seconde partie, le développement de nouvelles fonctionnelles est réalisé sur le dimère de Hubbard asymétrique afin de tester de nouvelles approximations et d'étudier plus en détail les processus auto-cohérents. De plus, des couplages non-adiabatiques sont calculés en utilisant des énergies déterminées dans le cadre de la DFT pour les ensembles ayant la particularité de ne pas être dépendant du temps.This thesis manuscript can be divided in two parts. In the first one, we are interested in a multiconfigurational extension for the density functional theory (DFT) including a range separation to deal with a hybrid theory between DFT and state-averaged wave function theory. In this case, we recover, at the same time, the dynamical correlation and the static correlation. Moreover, this study is performed considering the ensemble DFT to use an alternative to the usual method (time-dependent DFT) to describe the excited states of a molecule, avoiding some theoretical problems known with this approach. Particularly, conical intersections between excited states are interesting because a multiconfigurational approach is necessary. In the second part, new functionals development are performed and applied on the non-symmetric Hubbard dimer in order to test new approximations and to study more in detail self-consistency processes. In addition, non-adiabatic couplings are calculated using energies from ensemble DFT framework without time-dependence

    Les travaux réalisés au cours de cette thèse se décomposent en deux thèmes principaux, eux-même subdivisés enplusieurs projets. D'une part, des travaux ont été menés concernant l'analyse et le développement de fonctionnelles « doubles hybrides ». Une analyse des fonctionnelles « doubles hybrides » à séparation linéaire le long de la connexionadiabatique a été proposée. Une nouvelle fonctionnelle « double hybride » à séparation de portée basée sur uneséparation alternative de l'énergie d'échange et de corrélation, RSDHf, a été développée. D'autre part, des travaux quant au développement de surfaces d'énergie potentielle (SEP) analytiques ont été menés. Un nouveau potentiel analytique a été proposé pour la description de la SEP des systèmes triatomiques. La combinaison de ce potentiel avec un potentiel électrostatique a été utilisé pour le développement de SEP analytiques pour de petits systèmes en interaction faible : H2O···HF, HF2-, Ne···ClF.Works done during this thesis split into two main themes, themselves subdivided in several projects. On the one hand, works have been led concerning the analysis and the development of double-hybrid functionals. An analysis of linearly-separated double-hybrid functionals along the adiabatic connection has been proposed. A new range-separated double-hybrid functional based on an alternative separation of the exchange-correlation energy, RSDHf, has been developed. On the other hand, works related to the development of analytic potential energy surfaces (PES) has been led. A new analytic potential has been proposed for the description of the PES of triatomic systems. The combinaition of this potential with an electrostatic potential has been used for the development of analytic PES for small systems in weak interaction : H2O···HF, HF2-, Ne···ClF
