Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Estratégias e serviços públicos municipais da cidade digital estratégica de São José dos Pinhais-PR
Get PDFInformation technology resources have revolutionized the lives of people, organizations, governments, and thus, how cities manage public services. The objective is to analyze the strategic digital city subprojects of the City Hall of São José dos Pinhais - PR, through its strategies and public services made available digitally to citizens and public managers. The research method consisted of a case study and the techniques are quantitative, because they express numbers and qualitative when analyzing the names and municipal themes of these same numbers based on a research protocol with 2 constructs and 10 variables. The results show that the municipal public administration has been concerned with the adoption of initiatives to facilitate the quality of life of citizens, because it has 16 strategies and 31 services provided through information technology. The conclusion is that the found subprojects can contribute to municipal management and so that São José dos Pinhais can be understood as a strategic digital city, despite the lack of a formal project.Los recursos de la tecnología de la información han revolucionado la vida de las personas, las organizaciones, los gobiernos y, por lo tanto, la forma en que las ciudades gestionan los servicios públicos. El objetivo es analizar los subproyectos de ciudad digital estratégica de la Municipalidad de São José dos Pinhais - PR, a través de sus estrategias y servicios públicos puestos a disposición digital para ciudadanos y gestores públicos. El método de investigación es un estudio de caso y las técnicas son cuantitativas, ya que expresan números y cualitativos al analizar los nombres y temas municipales de estos mismos números, guiados por un protocolo de investigación con 2 constructos y 10 variables. Los resultados obtenidos demuestran que la administración pública municipal se ha preocupado por la adopción de iniciativas para facilitar la calidad de vida de los ciudadanos, ya que cuenta con 16 estrategias y 31 servicios públicos prestados a través de la tecnología de la información. La conclusión muestra que los subproyectos encontrados contribuyen a la gestión municipal y que São José dos Pinhais puede entenderse como una ciudad digital estratégica, a pesar de la falta de un proyecto formal.Os recursos da tecnologia da informação têm revolucionado a vida de pessoas, organizações, governos e, assim, o modo como as cidades fazem a gestão dos serviços públicos. O objetivo deste artigo é analisar os subprojetos de cidade digital estratégica da Prefeitura de São José dos Pinhais-PR, por meio de suas estratégias e serviços públicos disponibilizados digitalmente aos cidadãos e gestores públicos. O método de pesquisa consiste em estudo de caso com técnicas tanto quantitativas, pois expressam números, quanto qualitativas, ao analisarem os nomes e as temáticas municipais desses mesmos números, sendo pautado por um protocolo de pesquisa com 2 constructos e 10 variáveis. Os resultados auferidos demonstram que a administração pública municipal tem se preocupado com a adoção de iniciativas para facilitar a qualidade de vida dos cidadãos, pois possui 16 estratégias e 31 serviços públicos fornecidos por meio da tecnologia da informação. Uma Releitura da Educação para Surdos, sob a Ótica do Entorno Brevense
Get PDFA educação para surdos é um dos temas abrangidos pela pedagogia inclusiva e, como tal, exige atenção e preparo específico para que o processo de ensino-aprendizagem ocorra de modo satisfatório, atendendo às especificidades e particularidades características do aluno com necessidades educacionais especiais. Para isso, é imprescindível haver profissionais capacitados, aptos a interagir com o surdo estimulando positivamente sua cognição e respeitando os aspectos identitários e culturais da comunidade surda. Igualmente importante é dispor de estrutura física adaptada para a inclusão e desenvolvimento do aluno com necessidades educacionais especiais. Contudo, esses e outros fatores, com frequência, assumem caráter ausente ou apresentam-se como percalço na unidade escolar. Atinente a isso, este artigo se dedica a discutir problemáticas presentes na educação de surdos e a necessidade de capacitação profissional como uma possível solução, em âmbito escolar, sob a ótica, principalmente, de autores que produziram estudos no entorno de Breves, município brasileiro do Estado do Pará. Para tanto, optou-se pela pesquisa bibliográfica como fonte prioritária de informações. Ao final do estudo, conclui-se que o respeito à diversidade, que pode ser conquistado e promovido também por meio de formação continuada, e a efetiva adoção da Libras no cotidiano escolar configuram-se como fatores determinantes no sucesso do percurso formativo e na consequente participação ativa do aluno surdo em sociedade
