Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Influence of Air Traffic Control on Flight Efficiency in the Approach Phase
Cílem této práce je analyzovat a zhodnotit vliv řízení rychlosti ze strany řízení letového provozu (ATC) na spotřebu paliva a dobu letu na příkladu letounu A320Economy of air-traffic management and minimisation of its impact on environment are of paramount importance to both air navigation services and airline carriers. Air navigation service providers continuously seek for innovative approaches to the flight control procedures at the terminal control area where the impact of air traffic is significant. Airline carries in regard of minimizing costs and improving the overall flight economics provide cost index that defines the relation between the flight duration, in terms of a nominal speed profile, and fuel consumption. The goal of this diploma thesis is to analyse impact of ATC speed control procedures on the flight during approach phase, subsequent fuel consumptions and flight duration. The Airbus A320 airliner was used in the computer assisted flight simulations
Influence of Controlled Rest on the Vigilance
The goal of this study was to evaluate the influence of Controlled Rest on pilot’s vigilance, under the conditions of short/medium haul flights. An experiment was carried out on the Beechcraft Baron 58 aircraft simulator. A total of 10 people (9 men and 1 woman) took part in the experiment. All of them were flight school students at the time. Each one piloted a total of 2 flights within the experiment, one without the Controlled Rest period and one with it. Data was collected using 5minute PVT tests and eye-tracking. The data showed no significant impact of the Controlled rest period on the pilot’s vigilance. However, within the period of 30 minutes after the end of the Controlled rest, a significant decrease in the pilot’s vigilance was detected. This decrease is most likely associated with sleep inertia. Further research on this topic is required
The Coriolis Illusion and its Effect on Pilots at Different Stages of Training
Výsledná letová data byla zkoumána metodami Dynamic Time Warping, analýzy hlavních komponent a Wardovým hierarchickým shlukováním. The Coriolis illusion is a dangerous vestibular illusion that can have fatal consequences for aviation operations. The study examines whether this illusion affects differently pilots with varying levels of flight experience. A total of 114 subjects were involved in the research, divided into 4 groups. Each of them completed two flights on a spatial disorientation simulator, where the Coriolis illusion was implemented with a maximum week-long break between these flights. The resulting flight data were analyzed using methods such as Dynamic Time Warping, principal component analysis, and Ward's hierarchical clustering. In the flight parameters of heading and aircraft bank angle, the presence of the Coriolis illusion and its influence on flight parameters were clearly visible in the first measurement. In the flight data such as altitude and vertical speed, no significant differences were found between flights with and without the illusion after the first measurement. The second measurement and analysis of flight data did not show any differences between flights without the illusion and with the illusion. Furthermore, it was found from the flight data that all flight groups are affected by approximately the same negative effects of the Coriolis illusion, and there are no significant differences between groups. The results of subjective evaluation indicate that each group perceived the Coriolis illusion very intensely after both the first and second measurements. From these results, it is clear that the Coriolis illusion poses a clear danger to all pilots regardless of their previous flight experience
Perception Issues during Black Hole Approach
Mohou způsobit dezorientaci a nakonec vést k nehodě. Visual illusions are a very common potential hazard to flight safety. It can cause disorientation and eventually lead to an accident. The Black Hole illusion is one of the visual illusions, it has already caused several accidents in the past couple of decades, and the closest one just happened in 2016. However, the cause of the black hole illusion is still not certain. The focus of this thesis is the perception issues of the black hole illusion during the approach, several experimental scenarios were set including the daytime approach, night approach without PAPI and a night approach with PAPI. 52 participants were invited to the experiments, and during the experiments, the aeroplanes' glide path and the participants' eye-tracking data were recorded. The result indicates that the black hole illusions do cause a significant low approach to the participants. Then with the guidance of PAPI, the accuracy of the glide path was significantly improved
Influence of Noise on Pilot Reaction Time
Během tří simulovaných letů s délkou 30 minut byly subjekty podrobeny sérii tří letů pod různou hlukovou zátěží (55, 92 a 70 dB(A)). Hodnoty hladin intenzity zvuku vycházely z měření provedeného v kokpitu letounu B737-700 v průběhu standardního obchodního letu z Prahy do španělské Malagy. The effect of noise on pilot performance is a debated topic within aviation medicine. However, reaction time does not receive the attention it deserves and is usually considered only as one of the parameters of overall pilot performance. As it is very common in pilot practice to see pilot headsets being removed in flight, it would be appropriate to study the effect of noise on pilot reaction time more rigorously. This thesis is concerned with the study of the described problem. Based on a literature search, an experiment was designed to reveal the effect of noise on pilot reaction time. Twenty young student pilots, coming from the same age group with mostly the same flight experience, participated in the experiment. The subjects were subjected to a series of three simulated flights of 30 minutes duration under different noise levels (55, 92 and 70 dB(A)). The sound level values were based on measurements made in the cockpit of a B737-700 aircraft during a standard commercial flight from Prague to Malaga. The measured data were evaluated and no effect of noise on pilot reaction time was found
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
