SALT project: preliminary physical and mineralogical characterization of Alpine sulphates for geological and geotechnical modeling
No full textThe excavation of underground infrastructures in geological sequences containing sulphates may cause swelling, water weakening, creep and karst. All these phenomena have been observed in tunnels for decades, but related technical problems still remain. This is especially true for geologically complex domains as Alpine environments, where the mechanical behviour of sulphates needs to be evaluated in relation to the structural complexity of the fracture network and of the 3D geometries of the orogenic context. This study, that is developed in the framework of the SALT project, a multi scale and interdisciplinary investigation of sulphate salts in the Alpine region, proposes a description of the main features of outcropping sulphates in Western Alps, providing useful preliminary information to afford technical issues related to sulphates during the realization of infrastructures in the Alps. © 2024 The Author(s).C. This article focuses on the on-going transformations taking place in
the work sphere in societies of the "first" and "thrid" world.
Submerged in a profound crisis, these societies have been adopting the
processes of flexibilization and tertiarization as strategical tools.
Taking France and its nuclear industry as the privileged locus of
analysis, the author reflects upon these processes and tools, rescueing
health as an important dimension in revealing social and political
contradictions. This is accomplished by restoring the growing process
of social exclusion not only as central axis for this discussion but
also understanding the history of the end of the xxth century.

Distribution of the electricitygrid of a tiny house community: Powerline communication
No full textThis thesis will discuss the design, simulations and measurements of a powerline communication system that utilizes FSK modulation in order to transfer information from a transmitter to a receiver at a baud rate of 1kbps, in order to reach the requirement of having an effective data rate of at least 6bps. This system is designed specifically to be implemented in the smart DC grid of a sustainable "tiny house" community. This thesis investigates the different subsystems needed to create this communication system and compares different methods and implementations. This research led to the conclusion that the communication system was successfully build and could reliably reach a baud rate of 700bps, which appeared to be more than enough to reach a data rate of 6bps. The system also showed to be resistant to 'high levels' of noise on the communication channel as defined in the CELENEC standard. Furthermore, in order to decrease the bit error rate further, additional bit error detection and correction has been implemented using microcontrollers. This led to a robust and nearly error free communication system over a tested powerline of 50 meters long
Een bedrijfsdatacentrale op basis van packetswitching
No full textMet de PDP11-20 is een packetswitching-centrale ontworpen waarop twee soorten randapparaten aangesloten kunnen worden te weten telexapparaten en Teletypes. Voor de koppeling van de terminals aan de computer is een "byte serial interface" gemaakt. De snelheden waarmee bovengenoemde apparaten werken zijn 50 respectievelijk 110 baud. De codes die gebruikt worden zijn het Internationaal Alfabet nr. 2 bij de telexapparaten en het Internationaal Alfabet nr. 5 bij Teletype en in de centrale. Aan de PDP11-20 wordt een PDP1J-03 gekoppeld als tweede centrale ook werkend op basis van packetswitching en met als randapparaat een DECwriter.
