Selling fashion: realizing the research potential of the House of Fraser archive, University of Glasgow Archive Services
The House of Fraser archive is a rich resource for the study of the development of fashion retailing in Britain since the mid-nineteenth century. It is, however, underexploited by textile, fashion and retail historians. During the summer of 2009, the University of Glasgow archive services will complete an Arts and Humanities Research Council-funded project which seeks to improve the accessibility of the Archive. Adopting a progressive approach to archival description, the project is developing an innovative online catalogue, providing fuller access to information about the Archive and the resources contained within it
Piloting the PREVIEW-ED Tool in Fraser Health Authority
In 2016, Fraser Health (FH) partnered with the Langara School of Nursing and senior nurse consultant, Marilyn El Bestawiand to pilot the PREVIEW-ED© tool.
Two (2) term 8 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students facilitated implementation of the tool with Fraser Health’s first cohort of 176 residents across 4 Fraser Health Care Homes.
Students worked with Care Aides who completed the PREVIEW-ED© tool to prevent transfers to the Emergency Department for: pneumonia, congestive heart failure, urinary tract infections and dehydration.
A noted 71% reduction in Emergency Departments (ED) transfers for tool sensitive conditions.
This is now a best practice for Fraser Health Residential Care Homes

How wrong were we? The accuracy of the Fraser of Allander Institute's forecasts of the Scottish economy since 2000
The Fraser of Allander Institute regularly forecasts the annual growth of the Scottish economy. This paper measures the accuracy of these forecasts. It contrasts official measures of the growth performance of the Scottish economy and FAI forecasts for growth. Specifically, official measures of growth for the calendar years 2001 to 2010 are compared to forecasts for growth in these years made between January 2000 and spring 2011. Results show that: FAI forecasts of the direction of economic growth from one year to the next was statistically better than chance; the accuracy of forecasts improve as we get closer to the publication of the first growth estimate; excluding the „Great Recession‟, the mean absolute error of forecasts made up to eighteen months before publication of the first growth estimate for a year is approximately half a percentage point (i.e. 0.5%). There have often been significant revisions to Scottish GVA data, particularly at the start of the sample period. This emphasises the need for quality, and timely, indicators of economic performance for the Scottish economy as part of the information required for accurate forecasts in the future
Urban Encounters
In contrast to Walter Benjamin, Henri Lefebvre, and other European thinkers engaged with the concept of the urban, American intellectuals tend to envision the modern city as a dystopia, their perception of urban life influenced by negative stereotypes and fictional depictions in popular culture. In Urban Encounters, Helen Liggett challenges this fatalism by approaching the city as a vibrant, lived space. Combining a sophisticated critique of the urban with striking, street-level images, Liggett reclaims the human experience of the city. Liggett\u27s encounters with the urban are sequences of images and text that combine the joy of observing with the pleasure of making connections. For Liggett, this entails recognizing both beauty and danger. Alternately complementing and complicating her text, Liggett\u27s photographs capture the small details-the gestures, glances, and reflections-that together compose the urban experience. As a whole, Urban Encounters reimagines the city as a site of profound engagement with life. Helen Liggett is professor of urban studies at Cleveland State University. She is coeditor (with David C. Perry) of Spatial Practices: Critical Explorations in Social/Spatial Theory (1995), and her photographs have been exhibited at the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art.https://engagedscholarship.csuohio.edu/urban_bks/1010/thumbnail.jp
