Environment, human health, ambiguity and the precautionary principle
This article analyzes the Precautionary Principle (PP) from an institutional point of view. It shows that the implementation of the PP involves deep agency problems mainly because the benefits of precaution are very evenly distribuited under ambiguity
I minerali delle scorie ferrifere etrusche di Baratti
Vengono presentati dati chimici, cristallografici e morfologici per 42 distinte specie mineralogiche, principalmente cloruri, solfati e carbonati dei piombo e/o rame, identificate nelle scorie ferrifere etrusche di Baratti. Alcune caratteristiche e ricorrenti sequenze paragenetiche sono spiegate in funzione della variazione di parametri chimici quali pH e attività del cloro nella soluzione di cristallizzazione. Dallo studio in diffrattometria di polveri, ottico ed in fluorescenza-X delle scorie metallurgiche, si deducono temperature di lavoro e provenienza del minerale trattato nei processi metallurgici

Understanding the Risk of an Avian Flu Pandemic: Rational Waiting or Precautionary Failure?
The precautionary principle (PP) has been proposed as the proper guide for the decision-making criteria to be adopted in the face of the new catastrophic risks that have arisen in the last decades. This article puts forward a workable definition of the PP based on the so-called α-maximin expected utility approach, applying it to the possible outbreak of the avian flu disease among humans. Moreover, it shows how the shortage and/or lack of effective drugs against the infection of the virus A(H5N1) among humans can be considered a precautionary failure
