No full textLa región de La Mojana se caracteriza por tener un complejo sistema hídrico, un fuerte desequilibrio social y ambiental, y por presentar frecuentes inundaciones de gran magnitud que condicionan las actividades productivas y limitan la calidad de vida de sus habitantes. En un esfuerzo por aportar a la sostenibilidad de esta región, se diseñó un modelo conceptual que permitiera identificar tendencias, evaluar alternativas de gestión y formular escenarios alternativos, buscando la preservación del ecosistema y mejorar la calidad de vida sin alterar la identidad de La Mojana como sistema. Desde un enfoque sistémico se encontraron los elementos conceptuales y metodológicos necesarios para estudiar sistemas complejos como la región de La Mojana, que se caracterizan fundamentalmente por las interrelaciones internas y externas entre componentes tales como el suelo, el clima, la biota, las costumbres de la población y el sistema hídrico. Se utilizaron herramientas de diagnóstico rural participativo, encuestas, entrevistas, minería de datos y autómatas celulares para caracterizar la región, dentificar patrones de variables y diseñar el modelo que simula la dinámica de los usos del suelo a partir reglas sencillas que relacionan dichos usos con el régimen hídrico y las dinámicas de poblamiento. Esta metodología permite avanzar hacia el entendimiento de la complejidad de la dinámica regional asociada al ciclo hidrológico, definir los elementos e interrelaciones que componen el sistema, involucrar a la población en el diseño del modelo bajo el concepto de conocimiento experto, y se provee evidencia empírica de la capacidad de los autómatas celulares para simular fenómenos complejos. El conjunto de resultados de esta investigación muestran al agua y el suelo como elementos articuladores y variables fundamentales que identifican a La Mojana. Por esta razón se recomienda concentrar esfuerzos en la sostenibilidad de los cuerpos de agua y sus ecosistemas asociados, en armonía con las actividades productivas de sus habitantes. / Abstract. The region of La Mojana is characterized by its complex hydrological system, a strong social and environmental imbalance, and frequent large-scale floods that affect the productive activities and limit the life quality for its inhabitants. In an effort to contribute to the sustainability of this region, it has been design a conceptual model that would identify trends, evaluate management alternatives and develop alternative scenarios, seeking to preserve the ecosystem and improve the life quality without altering the identity of the system. In a systemic focusing, it has been found the conceptual and methodological approaches for studying complex systems, as the region of La Mojana, characterized primarily by internal and external relationships between components, as such as soils, weather, biota, people’s behaviors, and hydrological system. We used several methodological tools that included participatory rural appraisal, polls, interviews, data mining and cellular automata to characterize the region, to identify variables’ patterns and design a model that simulates the dynamics of land use from simple rules that relate these applications with the water regime and the dynamics of settlement. This methodology is able to understand the complex regional dynamic associated with the hydrological cycle, to define the elements and interrelationships that compound the system, involving people in the design of the model under the concept of expertise, and gives empirical evidence of the ability of cellular automata to simulate complex phenomena. The result set of this research shows the water resources and the land are fundamental variables articulating that identify La Mojana region. For this reason is recommendable to concentrate efforts on the sustainability of water bodies and associated ecosystems in harmony with productive activities of their inhabitants.Maestrí
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
