The objects preserved in one place are a valuable source for drawing other stories, by placing in an internal and family perspective events, circumstances and people which are ignored by official history. Moments in the history of the Clarisse monastery of Fara in Sabina (Rieti) are thus re-read through devotional objects (paintings, statues, trinkets, remains and relics) which are preserved here and some of which were donated by Cardinal Francesco Barberini. The analysis of some of these pieces allows us to reconstruct the fragments of an unpublished story and to consider hypotheses concerning the religious policies and religious orientations of the monastery. Constituted by the objects in question, but also by the words of the nuns, their stories, their memories and all daily writings (scattered annotations, notes, chronicles and community newspapers, letters) relating to these objects, private and informal sources, highlight in particular the relationship between Francesco Barberini and Francesca Farnese (1597-1651), founder of the place as well as the strategic intentions of Barberini

Francesco Barberini, the cardinal nephew of Pope Urban VIII (1623–1644), is known to researchers primarily as a patron of the arts. However, he was a member of numerous dicasteries in the Roman Curia and held the office of head of the papal secretariat of state throughout the pontificate. In the early years he hardly appeared in this function. From 1631 onwards, testimonies of his involvement in the correspondence of the office become more frequent in the archives and provide information about his desire to play an active role in papal politics. Detailed autograph minutes to letters sent in cipher to the nuncios in Vienna deal with topics such as the mostly futile request of the imperials for subsidies, the rejection of criticism of the papal policy of neutrality and the improvement of relations between the Holy See and the imperial court. In addition, the attempt to influence the political convictions of members of religious orders working in Vienna and, in particular, the need to win the emperor’s approval for the precedence of the prefect of Rome before the imperial envoy play a noticeable role

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Case report Autoimmune pancreatitis: a case of difficult diagnosis

    No full text
Autoimmune pancreatitis (AIP) is an insidious disease of non-specific symptomatology. To make correct diagnosis three different findings must correlate: radiological imaging, serological markers, and histology. This is not easy, and furthermore an incorrect diagnosis can lead to incorrect management and even patient death. We present our experience with a case of AIP in a young woman (34 years old) affected by different autoimmune pathologies with a history of abdominal pain. The diagnosis was made correlating histological findings and anamnestic data, although there were no radiological or serological findings. However, the management of this case was complicated by acute pancreatitis. In our case, we had only a histological sample and anamnestic data. So in these cases of positive history for autoimmune disorders and unclear clinical signs, AIP should be considered in differential diagnosis
