A new disease of Erica arborea in Italy caused by Neofusicoccum luteum.
Shoot blight was observed on Erica arborea L., in a natural growing area on Caprera Island (Italy), during 2011 and 2012. Fungal isolates obtained from 324 symptomatic shoots were identified as Neofusicoccum luteum by analysis of morphological and cultural characteristics, as well as DNA sequence data of the Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) of the ribosomal DNA and part of the translation Elongation Factor 1-alpha (EF-1α) gene. Pathogenicity of the fungus was verified by stem inoculation of 3-year-old seedlings of E. arborea. This is the first report of N. luteum as a pathogen of E. arborea
Engagement and retention in care of patients diagnosed with HIV infection and enrolled in the Modena HIV surveillance cohort.
Engagement and retention in care is one of the main aspects not only for the prognosis of the single patient, but also for the treatment as prevention strategy. Aim of our study was to evaluatethe engagement in care after diagnosis and the percentage of viral load suppression in an Italian Public Health System
Caratterizzazione molecolare di isolati di Biscogniauxia mediterranea da specie arboree ed arbustive della macchia mediterranea
È stato effettuato uno studio molecolare mediante RAPD-PCR di isolati
di Biscogniauxia mediterranea (De Not.) O. Kuntze da rametti asintomatici
di alaterno (Rhamnus alatemus L.), citiso trifloro (Cytisus villosus
Pourret), corbezzolo (Arbutus unedo L.), erica da scopa (Erica scoparla L.),
ilatro sottile (Phillyrea angusti/olia L.), leccio (Quercus ilex L.), mirto

Rand, Erica - 2022 Follow Up
Erica Rand is a professor of Arts and Visual Culture at Bates College, an adult figure skater, author and activist. This is a follow-up interview to her previous interview for Querying the Past in 2017. Erica Rand was heavily involved with ACT- UP Portland and more specifically the branch of ACT UP called: Pissed Off Dyke Cell and Women’s Health Action Crew. But more recently she has been involved with a new form of activism through sports and writing. At Bates, she is pushing the importance of trans-inclusion policies in sports and even testing the gender limitations put in place in figure skating.https://digitalcommons.usm.maine.edu/querying_ohproject/1095/thumbnail.jp
Role of Maraviroc in minimizing the risk of graft rejection in HIV-infected kidney transplant recipients
Background Kidney transplantation in HIV-infected patients is characterized by a concerning high rate of allograft rejections. The etiological mechanisms leading to this increased immunoreactivity are still unknown. Maraviroc is a new antiretroviral agent that has been associated with immunomodulatory proprieties; therefore, its use may be a promising strategy to minimize the rate of rejections in HIV-infected kidney transplant (KT) recipients. Methods We conducted a retrospective study in our cohort of HIV-KT recipients with the aim to explore the effects of maraviroc in reducing the risk of graft rejection. Results Twenty-two HIV-infected KT recipients predominantly of Caucasian origin (86%) and with a median age of 49 (IQR, 51.9-42.2) years were evaluated. Ten HIV-infected patients were treated with maraviroc and 12 with a maraviroc-free antiretroviral regimen. After a median follow-up of 3.01 years, half of the maraviroc-treated patients (n = 5) developed seven episodes of graft rejection, most of them were T cell-mediated rejections (85.7%). Five episodes were recorded in the maraviroc-free group. The difference in the rate of graft rejections was not statistically significant (P = .23).Conclusions The administration of maraviroc was ineffective in preventing graft rejections in our cohort of patients
