A child with dermatomyositis and a suspicious lymphadenopathy.
Dermatomyositis (DM) in adults is frequently associated with cancer. In contrast, juvenile DM (JDM) is predominantly idiopathic and rarely reported with occult neoplasm. We describe a patient who presented with DM that was found to be a paraneoplastic manifestation of nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Although rare, paraneoplastic JDM must be suspected in the presence of unusual features such as elevated inflammatory markers or lymphadenopathy. Accurate clinical assessment including appropriate biopsies is needed before starting glucocorticoid therapy
Reduced levels of circulating progenitor cells in juvenile idiopathic arthritis are counteracted by anti TNF-α therapy.
Analysis of mutations in DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV of Ureaplasma urealyticum and Ureaplasma parvum serovars resistant to fluoroquinolones
Efficacy and safety of neridronate in paediatric type I complex regional pain syndrome: a multicentre experience
Objectives: Evidence regarding the efficacy of neridronate in the treatment of complex regional pain syndrome type I (CRPS I) is increasing, however, very little data are available in paediatric age. Our aim was to analyse the safety and the efficacy of neridronate in a case series of children with CRPS I, according to the Budapest criteria, who did not respond to previous pharmacological and physical therapy. Methods: We collected data of children affected by CRPS I from three paediatric rheumatology centres who received neridronate. Efficacy was evaluated by changes in pain intensity, vasomotor changes, physical function, need for pain medications and MRI findings. Adverse effects were also documented. Results: Five children (3 females and 2 males, mean age 10.4 years, range 7-13 years) who received neridronate (4 intravenous, 1 intramuscular) were included. All patients had failed previous medical treatments (NSAIDs in 4, local steroids in 2, gabapentin, vitamin D and calcium supplementation in 1) and non-medical therapies (physiotherapy in 4, magnetotherapy in 2, laser in 1). Four out of five patients reported a significant improvement in pain (average VAS pre-treatment 9.6, post-treatment 2.6), recovery of physical function, and a reduced need for pain medications. Before treatment, all patients underwent MRI which revealed bone oedema that disappeared in the three of them after treatment. Neridronate was well-tolerated as only one patient experienced mild flu-like symptoms. Conclusions: Our data suggest that in children as in adults with CRPS I, neridronate may represent an effective and safe treatment option, particularly in those who do not respond to other pain treatments
Detection and molecular characterization of enteric viruses in children with acute gastroenteritis in Northern Italy
Enteric viral infections are a major concern for public health, and viral acute gastroenteritis is the principal cause of pediatric morbidity and mortality worldwide, mostly in developing countries. The purpose of this study was to determine the prevalence of different enteric viruses detected in a pediatric population with acute gastroenteritis symptoms, and to characterize the strains detected. Stools were collected from children, aged from 2 months to 15 years old, admitted to one of the main hospitals of Northern Italy, between November 2015 and October 2016. Stools were tested for nine enteric viruses (adenovirus, rotavirus A, norovirus, astrovirus, sapovirus, enterovirus, parechovirus, bocavirus and aichivirus) by molecular methods. Furthermore, rotavirus, norovirus and adenovirus were deeply characterized by nucleotide sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. A total of 151 out of 510 (29.6%) stools analyzed resulted positive for at least one of the enteric virus investigated. The most common virus detected was rotavirus A (53/151, 35.1%), followed by norovirus (39/151, 25.8%), adenovirus (35/151, 23.1%), sapovirus (9/151, 6%), enterovirus (5/151, 3.3%), astrovirus (5/151, 3.3%), parechovirus (4/151, 2.6%) and bocavirus (1/151, 0.6%). Aichi virus was not detected in any sample. Co-infections were detected in 12 out of 510 faecal samples (2.3%). These data improved the knowledge of the enteric viruses circulating in children in Northern Italy. In fact, besides rotavirus, adenovirus and norovirus, several viruses circulated across the whole year in the pediatric population object of this study. The introduction of specific viral diagnosis in our clinical setting will improve patient care by reducing unnecessary use of antibiotics addressing the right etiologic diagnosis

The development of this work investigates possible methodological and autoethnographic
traits in the relationship between the body, words, and scenic creation through concepts
such as territoriality, autofiction, and theatricalities.
This research is based on the creation process of a presentable product titled El Barranco
and the reflections in this text explore the fictionalities, potentials, and theatricalities that
emerged from this autofictional construction. In this process, the performer developed
materialities rooted in elements such as subjectivity, territorialities, and social, historical,
cultural, political, and economic contexts. In the referenced performance, the author of this
work took on the role of director and facilitator of body and voice practices.
The aim here is to reconstruct the actions and steps necessary for the realization of scenic
construction, believing that the richness of the research lies in the process itself. This is
where deep self-observation occurs, both for the performer and the director.
The research systematizes elements such as project planning, execution of the creative
laboratory, material generation, organization of components, staging/mounting,
performances, reflections, and final feedback. Additionally, the impact on the public
participant, who observes how these materialities are presented, organized, and developed
within a framework of representation and fiction, contributes to expanding the spectrum of
directorial styles, narratives, and dramaturgies.
This research is driven by an intense desire to foster, through autofiction, connections
between the personal and the collective, the private and the public, the individual and the
group, or the autoethnographic and the ethnographic. This study is nourished by the
personal experience of both the performer and the director. To a large extent, it is
supported and organized around the approaches, perspectives, ideas, questions, and
hypotheses of artist-researchers, philosophers, educators, and performing artists actively
engaged in the artistic craft. Methodologies, approaches, and concepts such as Oscar
Cornago’s theatricality, Jorge Dubatti’s territoriality, Heloisa da Silva’s autofiction, and the
methodological proposals of Barbara Biscaro and Madeleine Loayza have been
fundamental in enabling the author to organize this research according to their personal
vision, supported by external contributions and ideas.Maestrí
