Monroe has served as a member of the George Fox Board of Trustees for many years and is currently an honorary member of the board. He served as chairman of the George Fox Board of Trustees for five years, which is the maximum length of service for a chairman. During this time he was instrumental in bringing president Ed Stevens to George Fox. Robert was a chemist who graduated with his Bachelor’s degree in 1928, then went on to achieve his Ph.D. in 1934 from Columbia University. He became a professor of chemistry, and when World War II started, he began working for the US Army Chemical Corps.
