    6th Student Scientific Conference on Solid State PhysicsJune 27th - July 1st, 2016Sedliště, Czech RepublicOrganized by: Department of Solid State Engineering, Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering, Czech Technical University in PragueSolid state physics is a basic natural science focused on understanding connections between structure of the condensed matter and its properties. The main disciplines of the present solid state physics cover experimental research of the microscopic structure of the condensed matter (from crystalline matter, macromolecular and biological substances to mesomorphous and amorhous materials), spectroscopic and optical characterisation of physical and chemical properties of solid matter and complex functional super-structures or research of functional multi-ferroic materials. The achievements of solid state physics find great application in interdisciplinary fields covered under the title material engineering. An inseparable instrument of the new materials research is computer simulation of structure and properties of the condensed matter.     The Sixteenth International Conference on Local Mechanical Properties (LMP 2024) was organised by the Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering. It was held in Prague from May 29 to May 31, 2024 in the main building of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering. The conference alternates venue in Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The previous years were in 2004 - Košice, 2005 – Košice, 2006 – Plzeň-Nečtiny, 2007 – Brno, 2008 – Košice, 2009 – Telč, 2010 – Smolenice, 2011 – Olomouc, 2012 – Levoča, 2013 – Kutná Hora, 2014 – Stará Lesná, 2015 – Liberec, 2017 – Košice, 2019 – Prague, 2022 – Košice. The LMP 2024 conference brought together 85 participants from 12 countries (Czech Republic, Slovakia, France, Germany, Austria, Poland, Hungary, Switzerland, Bulgaria, United Kingdom, Turkey, India). The programme covered 45 oral presentations in 10 sections and 21 posters. The conference was sponsored by 10 generous partners and MecaNano COST Action CA21121 (European Network for the Mechanics of Matter at the Nano-Scale) whose support is greatly appreciated. The conference programme consisted of research results and developments in the field of characterization of mechanical properties of various materials at nano- and micro-scales. A wide range of materials was covered, from metals, glass, ceramics, and polymers to biological tissues or structural concrete. The conference was complemented by an introductory workshop and a special session devoted to the members of MecaNano COST Action CA21121. The proceedings are composed of selected peer reviewed papers. They include papers focused on nanoindentation, in-situ micromechanical testing, finite element modelling and other experimental techniques performed on various materials, films and coatings under ambient as well as severe conditions, including high temperature or irradiation. The organising committee hopes that the proceedings will provide a valuable overview and state-of-the-art in the field of local mechanical properties.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    The conference New Technology and Logistics on the Railway was held in Prague, in May 5, 2022. The 5th year of the Student Scientific Conference 2022 follows up on the previous Student Scientific Conferences with railway topics organized by the Faculty of Transportation Sciences in 2016, 2017, 2020 and 2021. The main topic of this year\u27s Student Scientific Conference is again the railway digitization, which is the main content of the Intelligent Transport Systems on Railways (ITS-R) project and the technological development of ITS-R in the Railways 4.0 project. Digitization, in addition to the management and security part, concerns passengers (internet access, etc.), information and check-in technologies, logistics and dispatching applications. The field of logistics is associated with the optimization of timetables and schedules, especially dynamic optimization responding to current anomalies and delays on the railway network, requiring the application of information technology such as big data, artificial intelligence, massive parallel (distributed) calculations and simulations etc. With the deployment of new technologies, it will be necessary to change the approach to training of dispatchers and drivers, so an integral part of the railway system is training based on the principles of simulators (e.g. locomotive simulators, of course with the ETCS system). Vehicle maintenance, infrastructure and their innovation, whether conventional lines or planned VRT, must also be an important part of the railway system. Main participants were students of master\u27s and doctoral study programs from CTU in Prague, BUT Brno, University of Pardubice, VŠB-TU Ostrava and the University of West Bohemia, who are engaged in research in the field rail transport. The announced thematic areas of the conference covered the above-mentioned issues: Railways 4.0 - ETCS, digitization, Optimization in railway traffic management, Railway infrastructure innovation, Modern rolling stock, Environment and railways, New directions in maintenance, Logistics and management.     The conference Modern railway for 21st Century was held in Prague, in June 2, 2021. The Student Scientific Conference in 2021 is a continuation of the student scientific conferences held in previous years: Interoperability in Railway Transport – IRICoN 2016, Modernization on the Railway – IRICoN 2017 and High-Speed Lines – the Future of the Czech Railway – IRICoN 2020.This year’s conference "Modern railway for 21st Century" is focused on modern technologies implemented in railways in the 21st century. The railway has its place in the 21st century. According to a recent study by the International Union of Railways, the rail transport has about four times less external costs per passengerkilometer than road or air transport. In freight transport, it is even six times less. Meanwhile, more than half of the external costs of road transport come from accidents. For aircraft, the vast majority of externalities are related to exhaust emissions and their impact on climate change.An important area of modern railways in the 21st century is digitization, which is the main content of the Intelligent Transport Systems on Railways (ITS-R) project and the technological development of ITS-R in the Railways 4.0 project. An important change in today’s railways should be the overall digitization, which is not only focused on the area of control, command and signaling, but also on passenger-related areas (internet access, etc.), information and check-in technologies, logistics and dispatcher applications. This involves, above all, the fundamental and systematic coverage of the entire railway by mobile network and to equip all vehicles by new digital technologies. This opens up great opportunities for the railway in the future. However, with the massive shift towards a fully digital railway, new problems have to be solved, such as cyber security or the economic sustainability and efficiency of the railway. Therefore, the topic of ITS-R and Rail 4.0 was one of the main conference sessions.Of course, the modern railway also affects other parts of railway operations. If we want to operate a really high-quality and reliable railway transport, it is necessary to take care on periodic maintenance of vehicles and especially infrastructure. Freight transport is a major problem; most vehicles are at the end of their lifetime and digitalization of them seems to be difficult and economically disadvantageous. In addition to maintenance, the operation, purchase or lease of vehicles could also be discussed. In addition to electrification, the energy sector is indirectly affected by the backup of independent vehicles to ensure service availability in the event of a power failure.The professional level of the conference was guaranteed by presentations of leading experts in railway transport from universities and from companies and institutions in railway transport (e.g. SŽ, ČD, VUŽ, VUKV). The main part of the participants were students of master and doctoral study programmes from the Czech Technical University in Prague, Brno University of Technology, University of Pardubice, VŠB-TU Ostrava and University of West Bohemia.The Student Scientific Conference in 2021 was held under the auspices of the Dean of the Faculty of Transportation Sciences, doc.
