Mabel Rosenthal Collection on Edwin Franko Goldman
Edwin Franko Goldman (1878-1956) was a bandmaster, author, composer, and founding member and first president of the American Bandmasters Association. He received his musical training at the National Conservatory in New York, and from 1899-1909 he held the position of solo cornet with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. In 1911, he formed the Goldman Band, and by 1918, the band was performing a free summer concert series, which later became known as the Guggenheim Concert Series. Goldman conducted this series until his death in 1956. This collection was compiled by Mabel Rosenthal, a family friend of Goldman's, and consists of newspaper clippings, programs, correspondence, photographs, medals, and scores related to Goldman's career as a conductor and composer
Concepção didáctica para contribuir com a formação do especialista em turismo para a sua função social.
Ante el reto de un desarrollo turístico sostenible que implique el beneficio, respeto y la participación de la población local, a la vez que satisfaga las expectativas más exquisitas del visitante, y aporte a la economía del país; se exige de nuevos comportamientos, concepciones y sistemas de gestión pública y empresarial privada. En tal contexto, el trabajo tiene como objetivo desarrollar una concepción didáctica que contribuya a la formación del especialista en Turismo para su función social, a través de determinadas asignaturas profesionalizantes en la carrera Ingeniería en Administración de Empresas Turísticas de la Universidad Laica Eloy Alfaro de Manabí (ULEAM). Se evidencian las experiencias obtenidas en el tratamiento de los contenidos afines al proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje de la asignatura Arqueología, Arte y Patrimonio Nacional. Entre los diferentes métodos y técnicas empleados están del nivel teórico: la revisión bibliográfica, análisis y síntesis, inducción y deducción, comparación, modelación; así como del nivel empírico la revisión de documentos oficiales, la observación participante y proyección, el criterio de especialistas, la entrevista; en el marco de la investigación en – de – y con el colectivo. La estructuración y ejecución de una metodología en el proceso de enseñanza aprendizaje de la asignatura citada, permitió los vínculos sistemáticos entre conocimiento teórico y la práctica curricular en el Museo Pacocha “Dr. José Reyes Cedeño”. Facilitó el desarrollo de hábitos, habilidades y de relaciones con la práctica social, en el reordenamiento de la exposición de artefactos y la ejecución de actividades educativas comunitarias, a través del vínculo entre los componentes académico e investigativo.

Didactic conception to contribute to the training of the Tourism specialist for its social function
Abstract
Faced with the challenge of a sustainable tourism development that implies the benefit, respect and participation of the local population, while satisfying the most exquisite expectations of the visitor, and contributing to the economy of the country; it demands of new behaviors, conceptions and systems of public and private business management. The objective of the work is to develop a didactic conception that contributes to the training of the specialist in Tourism for its social function, through certain professionalizing subjects in the career in Tourism Management of the Eloy Alfaro de Manabí Laica University (ULEAM). The experiences obtained in the treatment of contents related to the teaching-learning process of the subject Archeology, Art and National Heritage are evident. Among the different methods and techniques employed are the theoretical level: the bibliographic review, analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, comparison, modeling; as well as the empirical level, the review of official documents, participant observation and projection, the criteria of specialists, the interview; in the framework of research in - of - and with the collective. The structuring and execution of a methodology in the teaching-learning process of the aforementioned subject, allowed the systematic links between theoretical knowledge and curricular practice in the Pacocha Museum. It allowed the development of habits, skills and relationships with social practice, in the rearrangement of artifact exposition and the development of community educational activities, through the link between academic and research components.

Diseño de indicadores turísticos: programa de capacitación para la investigación
The information constantly acquires greater importance, because it affects the accurate decision making. The visitor needs a lot of up-to-date information to define what to buy, tourism entrepreneurs need to know the demands and trends of the demand, the characteristics of the suppliers, the offers of the competition and others. In the previous context, the objective of the work is to show how the research preparation of teachers contributes to the design of indicators in the systematization of information for sustainable tourism management. Participatory research was used, based on theoretical methods such as literature review, analytical-synthetic, inductive-deductive, comparison; and others of the empirical level among what can be cited, the review of official documents, teamwork, workshops, technical of nominal groups, matrix among others. The results are obtained, the design of a program to build indicators of sustainable tourism in postgraduate education, the training of the total of participants who raised a list of indicators linked to different topics related to tourism, based on the design of a file with necessary criteria in the systematization of relevant information for timely decision making. The participants transmitted the learning to the professional practice based on proposals, which allow monitoring the present and future repercussions of an economic, social and environmental nature for the satisfaction of the visitor, the communities and the businessmen in the tourist management.La información constantemente adquiere mayor importancia, porque incide en la toma certera de decisiones. El visitante, necesita mucha información actualizada para delimitar que comprar, los empresarios turísticos requieren conocer las exigencias y tendencias de la demanda, las características de los proveedores, las ofertas de la competencia y demás. En el contexto anterior, el objetivo del trabajo es desarrollar un programa de capacitación que contribuya a la preparación investigativa de los docentes respecto al diseño de indicadores en la sistematización de información para la gestión turística sostenible. Se empleó la investigación participativa, partiendo de métodos teóricos como la revisión bibliográfica, analítico-sintético, inductivo–deductivo, comparación; y otros del nivel empírico entre lo que se pueden citar, la revisión de documentos oficiales, trabajo en equipos, talleres, técnica de grupos nominales, matricial entre otros. Se obtienen como resultados, el diseño de un programa de capacitación, para construir indicadores de turismo sostenible. Participaron docentes investigadores de la Facultad de Hotelería y Turismo, quienes plantearon una lista de indicadores vinculados a diferentes temáticas referentes al turismo. Se diseñó una ficha con criterios necesarios para la sistematización de información relevante en la toma de decisiones oportunas. Los asistentes, transmitieron el aprendizaje a la práctica profesional a partir de propuestas, que permiten vigilar las repercusiones presentes y futuras de carácter económico, social y ambiental para la satisfacción del visitante, las comunidades y los empresarios en la gestión turística

Mabel was active in the League's emergency corps, 'women who are prepared to give their service in any need that may arise'. It wasn't long before Mabel was appointed Honorary Supervisor of the Red Cross Depot at the Keswick Military Hospital: No. 7 AGH. After the war, the hospital was renamed RGH Keswick. Here Mabel stayed for 30 years. This book gives voice to the women of South Australia's first 110 years of European settlement and opportunity to reflect on the changing position of women in society. But the spotlight shines on Mabel. Her long and devoted community service - particularly to her 'Diggers' - was extraordinary

In order to analyse the features characterizing the binomial “self-determination and disability”, the present paper highlights the conceptualizations underling the psycho-pedagogical model of self-de-termination elaborated by the Functional Model and the Causal Agency Theory. In particular, in trac-ing conceptual and epistemological intersections between these theories and the analytic philosophy (especially, Donald Davidson’s works), the author draws attention to some ethical-philosophical issues opened up by these psycho-pedagogical theories. This confirms the crucial role played by the self-determination construct within the contemporary debate on adult disability
