Halal Tourism: Evolution, Trends, and Future Outlook
Halal tourism has evolved from pilgrimage-centered practices to a dynamic global industry shaped by economic, cultural, and technological transformations. This chapter traces its development from the pre-2000s to the present, highlighting institutionalization, digitalization, and sustainability as key drivers. Particular attention is given to the role of Muslim-majority countries and the growing engagement of non-Muslim destinations in accommodating halal-friendly services. The analysis underscores the impact of middle-class expansion, Islamic finance, and digital platforms in shaping consumer behavior. Future prospects reveal diversification, inclusivity, and global expansion as defining features of halal tourism
Global Islamic Finance: Principles and Products
The Islamic financial system is part of the modern economy and it is established on the religious beliefs that emerged in some Muslim countries. In the last years, numerous studies have noted the expansion and growing importance of Islamic Finance across many parts of the world. Islamic finance has developed over a long period of a profound rethinking of the cultural, religious and social identity of Muslims and with the affirmation of its distinctive characteristics. In 1975, the establishment of the Islamic Development Bank in Saudi Arabia represented the first involvement of institutions and governments in the development of Islamic finance. This chapter examines the geography of Islamic Finance and the main drivers of its expansion. It discusses the main principles and pillars of the Islamic Economic Model and its main instrument
Introduction
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book analyses the problem of how to reconcile Islam and Finance, and integrate Muslims into a universalistic and self-grounded Financial Market. It highlights the relationships between Islamic Ethics, Law and Economics. The book examines the pre-conditions for Islamic finance to generate sustained economic growth. It examines the EU Cooperation Policy with the Northern African Mediterranean and the Middle East Countries. The book analyses the recent developments of the European neighbourhood policy, starting from the pivotal Barcelona declaration, to illustrate the major changes, developments and results obtained since then. It describes the framework and functioning of the Islamic Bank, analysing its differences from conventional banks
Contemporary Issues in Islamic Law, Economics and Finance: A Multidisciplinary Approach
This book explores how Islam can impact the structures and performance of firms, financial institutions and capital markets across a range of countries and industries. The Islamic finance industry represents an important reality not only because of the oil wealth of the Gulf states, which have fueled demand for such financial services, but also for an increased demand from a growing Muslim population in the West that aspires to express a full and all-inclusive religious identity. The increased demand for Muslim financial institutions has prompted Western non-Islamic firms to begin providing these services in an interesting effort of acculturation to the new plural scenario. By adopting a multidisciplinary approach, which also takes into account the theological, legal and geopolitical framework, the book offers a comprehensive picture of Islamic financial tools, contracts and business opportunities. Drawing on different fields of expertise, it deals with various themes, such as the theological roots of Islamic economics and finance and its geopolitical impact; the EU policy of cooperation with MENA and GCC countries; the instruments of Islamic finance, its legal principle and ability to become an instrument for enhancing business opportunities; the functioning of Islamic banks; the development of capital markets within a financial model influenced by religious constraints and, finally, the new relationships of this religious financial system with Western legal systems. The book thus provides a complete and extensive overview of the practice of Islamic finance through the lenses offered by studies of economics and management. Providing a careful analysis and an integrated framework of geo-economic and political issues, the book will be a valuable resource for academics, researchers and professionals in International Business, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, Law and Religion and Intercultural Studies
Strategic R&D Investment under Information Revelation”
R&D projects generally involve multiple phases with or without overlapping. Moreover, the investment is usually made in a phased manner, with the commencement of the subsequent phase being dependent on the successful completion of the preceding phase. The aim of this article is to analyze the equilibrium strategies of two firms competing for a two-stage sequential R&D investment, when a firm may infer a private signal from the strategy played by the other. Thus, firms must formulate their optimal strategies in a context of imperfect information. We evaluate the resulting compound option with information revelation as an American compound exchange option using Monte Carlo simulations. We then show that different equilibria may arise

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Valuation of R&D Sequential Exchange Options using Monte Carlo approach
This article describes a methodology for evaluating R&D investment projects using Monte Carlomethods. R&D projects generally involves multiple phases with or without overlapping. R&D investments are made often in a phased manner, with the commencement of subsequent phase being dependent on the successful completion of the preceding phase, it is known as sequential investment. Moreover, each stage creates an opportunity (option) for subsequent investment. Therefore, R&D projects can be considered as ‘Compound Options' in which investments present uncertainty both in the gross project value and in costs. It is possible to use exchange options to value the R&D investment opportunities. In this paper, we propose to value the European and American Real Compound Exchange options through Monte Carlo simulation. We also provide a set of numerical experiments to provide evidence for the accuracy of the proposed methodology.Pseudo Compound American Exchange option; R&D;Monte Carlo Methods.
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
