Visual Music: from individual to collaborative motion graphic design / Visual Music: da motion graphic design individuale a collaborativo
This text is intended to describe the methods of visual translation of audio events used in the teaching experiences conducted at the Politecnico di Milano, in the Design courses, during over twenty years of activity, starting from 1999/2000 to date. In particular, over the years, the author, with her collaborators, has tried to define criteria, rules, and relationships between audio and video that would allow participants to design a single video project together. Then to define the rules for a collaborative project by, each year, refining more and more restrictive “rules”; that is, with a more defined audio / video relationship.
In the history of visual music, from the origins of abstract cin¬ema in the early twentieth century, visual music film / video is recurrently a solitary, individual project; also in cases where - for the extent of the duration - this requires a team of collaborators, as in the case of Fischinger, of whom we have photographic evidence of the collaborator’s studio. However, these are groups that work under the direction of an author who has the functions of sole director.
The objective of the research path presented here is therefore to define methods, criteria, and rules of audio / video correspondences that allow us to arrive at collaborative visual music projects in which the participants can be understood to be in equal measure “authors” and “directors ”of the project
The role of the third sector in work with offenders: the perceptions of criminal justice and third sector stakeholders
This paper examines the views of national criminal justice and third sector stakeholders on the strategic position of the sector, and its role in the resettlement of offenders. The interview data suggests that although the involvement of the third sector in the criminal justice system is promoted in national policy, considerable gaps have been identified. These include the quality and availability of regional commissioning, implementation strategies and the long-term plans for the re-specification of the criminal justice system. The findings also indicate that increasing emphasis on competitive policy may put a strain on future inter-sector partnerships. The implications of the findings are discussed and areas of further research are highlighted in relation to both the prison and probation services.<br/
PENGARUH JENIS DAUN DAN PELARUT TERHADAP RENDEMEN EKSTRAK SAPONIN DAUN PEPAYA (CARICA PAPAYA LINN.)
Food safety issues can not be separated from the microbial pathogens that can cause health problems and food spoilage. Their presence in food product should be prevented and controlled. One of the efforts to improve food safety is the utilization of antimicrobial compounds, that can inhibit the growth of pathogenic microbes and food spoilage microorganism like Saponin. Saponins are triterpenic or steroidal glycosides which have many biological properties, and largely distributed in papaya leaves abundantly grown in Indonesia. This research aimed to compare the extraction procedure of saponin from papaya leaves by the difference of papaya leaves (young and old) and solvent (methanol, ethanol) that be used. The results showed that extraction by etanol provided higher yields (5.7 %) than by metanol (3.2 %). The yields of saponin-rich-extract from young and old leaves were not significantly different. Keywords: saponin, extract, ethanol, methanol, papaya leave
Synaesthesia and Sensory Accessibility. Vicarious analog and digital technologies for accessibility to visual art / Sinestesia y accesibilidad sensorial.
persone vedenti.
The paper addresses the relationship between synaesthesia and blindness with the aim of
understanding which aspects of this relationship can be applied to make art, and the
communication projects connected to it, accessible to people with sensory disabilities. The
first part is dedicated to a synthetic historical reconstruction of the main contributions that
have studied synaesthetic perceptions in people with visual disabilities, noting similarities and
differences with them in sighted people. The second part highlights the importance of
synaesthesia for the accessibility of content, specifically of works of visual art in museum
contexts. Finally, the last part brings the case, created by the author with her collaborators, of
a small multimedia exhibition ("ControSenso") in which the contents communicated - in turn
the subject of exhibition events held in the city of Milan - are proposed on more sensory
registers, researching and proposing their synaesthetic translation.

Character Taxonomy in Dina Rubina’s Trilogies of the 2000s— 2010s
The article examines the trilogy by Dina Rubina “People of the Air” (2008—2010) and “Russian Canary” (2014). The relevance of the study is due, firstly, to the low degree of study of the trilogy “Russian Canary” (the onomastic space of the work is analyzed and the features of the book are determined in the context of a family novel of the 20th century); secondly, the need to differentiate the author’s artistic methodology, which is different in the studied macro-texts. The novelty of the research is seen in the fact that the authors, comparing the two trilogies by Dina Rubina, come to the conclusion that the author uses various semiotic strategies for constructing texts, thus revealing the homology of storylines, methods of constructing character series and general principles of world modeling of trilogies. The results of a comparative analysis are presented, which allow us to see the patterns of the artistic search of a modern author and his stylistic innovations. It is proved that with the parallelism of character series of two epic cycles, the author in the first case resorts to the artistic method of magical realism (“People of the Air”), and in the second case uses realistic principles of writing (“Russian Canary”)

Antioxidants and cancer of the endometrium and ovary
Endometrial and ovarian cancers represent two of the top ten cancers affecting women in the United States. Experimental and animal models suggest that oxidative
stress may play a role in the development of these cancers. Additionally, there is suggestive but limited evidence that dietary antioxidants may be associated with protective effects. To our knowledge, no studies have investigated the synergistic effect of total antioxidant intake with endometrial and ovarian cancer risk. We therefore sought to investigate the role of total antioxidant capacity of the diet using two published
antioxidant databases on endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer risk using data from two population-based case-control studies in New Jersey. We also evaluated the association with individual antioxidants, including vitamin E, vitamin C, beta-carotene, selenium, lycopene, and lutein. For endometrial cancer, using antioxidant capacity estimates derived from an ORAC assay, we found decreased risks for total phenolics (OR: 0.60; 95% CI: 0.38-0.95) and suggested decreased risks for total lipophilic and total hydrophilic antioxidant intake.
A suggested decreased risk with the highest tertile compared to the lowest of dietary vitamin E (OR: 0.79; 95% CI: 0.47 – 1.33), dietary selenium (OR: 0.62; 95% CI: 0.36-1.07), and dietary lycopene (OR: 0.76; 95% CI: 0.50 – 1.15) were observed, however none reached statistical significance. For ovarian cancer, an inverse association was observed for the highest compared
to the lowest tertile of selenium intake from food sources (OR: 0.41; 95% CI: 0.20-0.81). No association was observed for any other dietary antioxidant. In contrast, a positive association was observed with vitamin C supplement use (OR: 1.63; 95% CI: 1.01-2.62)
vitamin E supplement use (OR: 1.63; 95% CI:1.02-2.63), beta-carotene supplement use
(OR: 1.69; 95% CI: 1.08-2.66) and selenium supplement use (OR: 1.64; 95% CI: 1.05-2.56). Similar results were observed when we used the antioxidant database based on a FRAP assay. Comparisons between the ORAC and FRAP assay-based values revealed differences in the values assigned to food items, mean total daily intake, correlations between individual antioxidants, and between the relative contributions of food items to the indices. However, we found the agreement and the rank order correlation to be high between the two resulting total antioxidant indices. In conclusion, results from these studies suggest that components of dietary antioxidant intake, mainly total phenolics, total lipophilic antioxidant intake and dietary selenium, may be associated with decreased risks of endometrial and ovarian cancer.
Antioxidant supplement intake was associated with increased risks in both studies. Additionally, our findings show that both antioxidant databases may be useful in assessing the total antioxidant capacity of diet in studies of nutritional epidemiology. Further research is needed to confirm these findings.Ph. D.Includes bibliographical referencesIncludes vitaby Dina M. Gifkin
