No full textVannkjemiske beregninger av innsjøers evne til å motstå sur nedbør er beskrevet ved deres syrenøytraliserende kapasitet (ANC= acid neutralization capacity). Ferskvannsfisk og bunndyrs evne til å overleve er vurdert i forhold til vannets ANC. Det registreres betydelige forskjeller i tålegrenser for ulike fiskearter. Abbor er den arten som tolererer lavest ANC-verdier, mens laks synes å være mest følsom av de undersøkte artene. Laks og ørret foreslås som indikatorarter for fisk på surt vann i Norge. ANC-konsentrasjon på 20 µeqv/l foreslås som akseptabelt tålegrense for fisk og evertebrater i våre ferskvann.Arbeidsgruppen for programmet Naturens Tålegrense
The destruction of a black institution: a political economy of Fisk University, 1977-1984, 1994
No full textThis study examines the internal workings at Fisk University from 1977-1984. The main aim is to uncover several hidden factors contributing to the demise of the historically Black colleges and universities in the United States. The mission, place, and historical role of the challenges at Fisk University and the manner in which they were dealt with are presented. The period 1977-1984 is investigated because unlike other critical periods in the University's history, the issues which propelled the institution to the point of crisis are clearest and contain many important lessons relevant to the present, especially as they relate to the struggle for survival of the historically Black colleges and universities. The findings suggest that the failure of the Fisk Board of Trustees to be more involved in the governance of the university at a broader spectrum, along with their view of a contemporary education and the educational mission of a "Black college" led to the systematic destruction of the institution. Moreover, the board's views were contrary to the conjunctural and strategic educational needs of African American people in the United States of America

Det ble ikke funnet spesiell bunndyrarter som skulle tilsi at området ikke bør utfylles. De nederste delene av Drammenselva har i norsk sammenheng en spesiell artsrik fiskefauna, sammensatt av både ferskvann- og saltvannsarter. I nedre delene av Drammenselva er det meste av den opprinnelige strandsonen nå fyllt ut. Videre inngrep vil ytterligere redusere produktive gruntområder og levemuligheter for fisk

Dødelighet, kondisjon og mekaniske skader på gjeller og filterapparat ble undersøkt og sammenholdt med litteraturdata. Mens fisk tåler kortvarig eksponering for høye partikkelkonsentrasjoner (>1000mg/l), ble det påvist skadeeffekter hos dyreplanktonet alt ved 10 mg/l. For fisk synes tilslamming av gytegroper og redusert på føde (bunndyr og zooplankton) å være de viktigste effekter
Increased Plasma L-Arginine Levels and L-Arginine/ADMA Ratios after Twelve Weeks of Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplementation in Amateur Male Endurance Runners
No full textIt is not fully understood how supplementation with omega-3 fatty acids affects the metabolism of amino acids required for the bioavailability/synthesis of NO, i.e., L-arginine (L-arg), asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), their metabolites, and the L-arg/ADMA ratio and their impact on running economy (RE) in runners. Thus, 26 male amateur endurance runners completed a twelve-week study in which they were divided into two supplemented groups: the OMEGA group (n = 14; 2234 mg and 916 mg of eicosapentaenoic and docosahexaenoic acid daily) or the MCT group (n = 12; 4000 mg of medium-chain triglycerides daily). At the same time, all participants followed an endurance training program. Before and after the 12-week intervention, blood was collected from participants at two time points (at rest and immediately post-exercise) to determine EPA and DHA in red blood cells (RBCs) and plasma levels of L-arg, ADMA, and their metabolites. RBC EPA and DHA significantly increased in the OMEGA group (p < 0.001), which was related to the resting increase in L-arg (p = 0.001) and in the L-arg/ADMA ratio (p = 0.005) with no changes in the MCT group. No differences were found in post-exercise amino acid levels. A total of 12 weeks of omega-3 fatty acid supplementation at a dose of 2234 mg of EPA and 916 mg of DHA daily increased levels of L-arg and the L-arg/ADMA ratio, which indirectly indicates increased bioavailability/NO synthesis. However, these changes were not associated with improved RE in male amateur endurance runners

Undersøkelser for å finne omfanget av problemet har vært foretatt som et pilotprosjekt. Kjemiske analyser har stadfestet at fisk med oljesmak (organoleptiske analyser) har innhold av bl.a. dekaliner fra boreslam. Analyse er foretatt ved hjelp av datastyrt gasskromatografl massespektrometer system
