A silver aedicula at Mérida
No full textA tiny anaglyph, originally from Mérida, is made in the form of a miniature hexastyle temple. Whether the aedicula reproduces the « Temple of Diana » (the municipal temple of the imperial cult) is uncertain but the relic must in any event have been placed as a donarium within one of the temples at the colony of Augusta Emerita. An inscription on the architrave shows that the « templecillo » was dedicated to Divus Antoninus Pius. Did the donor believe that he had received supernatural aid from the deified emperor ?Un petit anaglyphe, originaire de Mérida, a la forme d'un temple hexastyle en miniature. On ne sait pas si cette aedicula reproduit ou non le « Temple de Diane » (le temple municipal impérial) mais elle doit en tout cas avoir été placée à titre de donarium dans quelque temple de la colonie d'Augusta Emerita. Selon l'inscription qui figure sur son architrave le « templecillo » fut dédié à Divus Antoninus Pius. On the origins of Africa Proconsularis, I [The amalgamation of Africa Vetus and Africa Nova]
No full textAnalysis of R.G. 24, 2, Stabo 17, 3, 25, and Dio 53, 12, 4-7 reveals no clear grounds for inferring that the Republican provinces of Africa Vetus and Africa Nova were unified in 27 B.C. The text of Dio in particular evidently lists the provinces as they existed at the time when he composed his history. It seems clear from R.G. 25, 2, that Africa was, in fact, already unified in 32 B.C., an inference confirmed by the fasti triumphales, which refer to Africa as a single province from 35 B.C. No doubt the amalgamation of the Republican provinces was required by the strategic importance of Africa in the years immediately preceding. In view of the confused events in Africa from 44 to 40 B.C., on the other hand, it is unlikely that a formal unification of Africa could have been achieved before the governorship of Lepidus (44-36 B.C.).Une analyse de R.G. 24, 2, Strabon 17, 3, 25 et Dio 53, 12, 4-7 ne fournit aucun témoignage d'où il ressort clairement que les provinces républicaines d'Africa Vêtus et d'Africa Nova furent unifiées en 27 av. J.-C. Le texte de Dio en particulier donne ce qui est évidemment une liste des provinces telles qu'elles existaient au moment où il avait rédigé son histoire. Comme le révèle R.G. 25, 2, l'Afrique était en effet déjà une unité en 32 av. J.-C, conclusion confirmée par les fasti triumphales, qui font allusion à une seule province d'Afrique à partir de 35 av. J.-C. Sans aucun doute, la fusion des provinces républicaines doit être attribuée à l'importance stratégique de l'Afrique dans les années immédiatement précédentes. Par contre, étant donné les événements confus survenus en Afrique de 44 à 40 av. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
