This essay retraces the relationships between Anna Banti’s literary writing, born first of all and above all inside an education strictly connected to the iconic representation, and the art, intended both as historical reconstruction and as interpretative activity and, finally, as source of characters, stories, allegories.
For this reason her novels Artemisia (1947) and Le mosche d’oro (1962), and the short stories Le donne muoiono (1951) and Tela e cenere (1975) are briefly examined in order to highlight the relevance that the author attributes to the production of artistic and literary images for the transmission and preservation of the collective memory
The essay examines how the last novel of the author from Urbino is marked by a sudden solution in continuity with respect to his early novels. It places this deviation in the context of the internal collapse of the Capital's progressive reform ideals. The essay documents how this allegorizing change of course had consequences on several levels within Volpini's pages, beginning with the disappearance of the bitter and expressionistic subjectivism, which had distinguished his style. It shows how the dominant register is made up of the language of companies and bureaucracy and reveals the decline of the animistic processes that characterized the author's subversive lyricism
A portrait of the woman artist: Themes and motifs in Anna Banti's fiction
"Anna Banti is an author who testifies to an enduring commitment to women in the arts. Throughout her extensive body of fiction, women's confining roles are allowed to expand beyond the physical and emotional boundaries of their realities, finding in the ""Spirit of creativity"" a restless, universal force that contains the essence of art."The present study identifies recurring themes and motifs in Anna Banti's oeuvre, and as such it is a systematic investigation taking into account the entire body of prose by this author. Only one scholar, Enza Biagini (1978), has offered a comprehensive key to Banti's works, organized according to their genre and chronology. The main reasons why it has been deemed necessary to reconsider the literary production of this author are twofold. First, the monograph by Biagini, albeit an outstanding contribution, does not offer an extensive appraisal of some of the most central themes, especially the treatment of spatial references, and the abundance of motifs relating to madness, sickness, and the female body from a gender-based perspective. Second, the present analysis takes into account Banti's last novel, the autobiographical and largely insightful Un grido lacerante (1981), which had not been published at the time. The themes and motifs presented here are divided into four major categories--those relating to time, space, the identity, and the self--and together they reconstruct the complex itineraries of the mothers, daughters, sisters, and wives represented in the fiction of Anna Banti. In particular, this thematic apparatus highlights the wider implications of the author's notions of womanhood and the intricate relationship of women to artistic creation. Furthermore, an interpretative key is offered to those works that have not yet been investigated at length, such as Itinerario di Paolina, Sette lune, Le monache canto, Il bastardo, Allarme sul lago, La monaca di Sciangai, Le mosche d'oro, Campi elisi, Noi credevamo, Je vous ecris d'un pays lointain, La camicia bruciata, Da un paese vicino, and Un grido Lacernate.Made available in DSpace on 2011-05-07T12:37:39Z (GMT).
Moshe Dayan is one of the historic figures who contributed significantly to thedevelopment of the State of Israel. After Israel's triumph in the Six-Day-War (1967),General Dayan, well-known for his offensive attitude towards his physical disability, turned the worldwide attention to himself. At that period of time, the communistpropaganda was confronting the people behind the “Iron Curtain” with the repulsiveimage of the Israeli Minister of Defense who was accused of having connections withthe USA and FRG. This image was an important part of the Anti-Zionist propaganda, and it exhibited distinctive anti-Semitic and anti disability characteristics. Apart fromthe official Propaganda image, other — much more positive — views about Dayanwere spreading in the USSR. He was a character of some Soviet anecdotes andunderground culture of the Brežnev epoch. Dayan's disability was accentuated inpopular jokes as well as songs written by the famous soviet author Vladimir Vysotsky

Different pain phenotypes are associated with anti-Caspr2 autoantibodies
Greguletz P, Plotz M, Baade-Buttner C, et al. Different pain phenotypes are associated with anti-Caspr2 autoantibodies. Journal of neurology. 2024.Autoantibodies against contactin-associated protein 2 (Caspr2) not only induce limbic autoimmune encephalitis but are also associated with pain conditions. Here, we analyzed clinical data on pain in a large cohort of patients included into the German Network for Research in Autoimmune Encephalitis. Out of 102 patients in our cohort, pain was a frequent symptom (36% of all patients), often severe (63.6% of the patients with pain) and/or even the major symptom (55.6% of the patients with pain). Pain phenotypes differed between patients. Cluster analysis revealed two major phenotypes including mostly distal-symmetric burning pain and widespread pain with myalgia and cramps. Almost all patients had IgG4 autoantibodies and some additional IgG1, 2, and/or 3 autoantibodies, but IgG subclasses, titers, and presence or absence of intrathecal synthesis were not associated with the occurrence of pain. However, certain pre-existing risk factors for chronic pain like diabetes mellitus, peripheral neuropathy, or preexisting chronic back pain tended to occur more frequently in patients with anti-Caspr2 autoantibodies and pain. Our data show that pain is a relevant symptom in patients with anti-Caspr2 autoantibodies and support the idea of decreased algesic thresholds leading to pain. Testing for anti-Caspr2 autoantibodies needs to be considered in patients with various pain phenotypes. © 2024. The Author(s)
