No full textCurrent advances in knowledge of the biology of human papillomavirus (HPV) is reviewed. The evidence of its role in the genesis of carcinoma of the cervix is presented as a model of the oncogenic potential of HPV. A common theme of HPV prevalence, transmission and importance of cofactors is presented at the epidemiological level. This is also considered at the molecular level with the role of the E6 and E7 ORF and their interaction with P53 and Rb. Cofactor effects at this level are discussed

A case of furuncular myasis from dermatobia hominis [Un caso di miasi foruncoloide da dermatobia hominis]
No full textA case of subdermal myasis due to dermatobia hominis is reported in a 45 year-old forestry engineer from Germany who had been in Guatemala 30 days before. The skin disorder is characterized by the presence of a nodular-ulcerative lesion, located on the forehead, painful and of hard-elastic consistence. Both the removal of the parasite, obtained by simply squeezing the lesion, and a local and systemic antibiotic treatment, led to the disappearance of the disorder in three weeks.
