LFA applicability in SP networks
LFA Applicability: Pierre Francois was the editor of RFC 6571 [2], "LFA applicability in SP networks", co-edited with Clarence Filsfils, distinguished engineer at Cisco Systems. This RFC presents an analysis of the applicability of an IP Fast Reroute technique called "Loop-free alternates" in Internet Service Provider Networks. LFA Applicability in Service Provider Networks
The standardization topics related to Pierre Francois’s activities for the period September-December 2011 in the Routing Area relate to «IP Fast Reroute». An IETF working group document («LFA applicability in SP networks», draft-ietf-rtgwg-lfa-applicability-04) co-authored with Clarence Filsfils, distinguished engineer at Cisco Systems, underwent working group last call in the RTGWG working group. This draft presents an analysis of the applicability of an IP Fast Reroute technique called «Loop-free alternates» in Internet Service Provider Networks. This work has been performed in collaboration with Cisco Systems, France Telecom - Orange, AT&T, and Deutsche Telekom. In this draft, we analyze the applicability of LoopFree Alternates in both core and access parts of Service Provider networks. This collection contains correspondence, research notes, manuscripts, newsclippings, printed materials, photographs, maps, and memorabilia collected by Clarence Evans on Friedrich Gerstacker materials. Born in Atkins, Arkansas, August 20, 1899, William Clarence Evans developed an interest in German author Friedrich Gerstacker while studying with German scholar Alfred Lussky, at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.
After receiving a Masters in History from UA Fayetteville, Evans married VeLena Scott in 1930, and they had two children, Carolyn Evans LaFevers and Margaret Evans Wright. Evans taught at Atkins 1925-26 and served as principal of Casa High School in 1930-1931 before accepting a position at Beebe Jr. College in 1932. During his tenure at Beebe, Evans received the Dupont Senior Fellowship from the University of Virginia and worked on his doctorate during 1933-1935. Evans left Beebe Jr. College in 1942 to accept a position as instructor at UA Fayetteville. In 1944-1945, Evans worked for the War Department in Washington D. C. and was able to spend two years researching Gerstacker's work at the Library of Congress. After World War II, Evans accepted a position as assistant Professor of History at Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma.
Evans was recognized by the Arkansas Historical Association for his research in the social history of the Arkansas frontier and was best known for his research and published articles on Gerstacker. Friedrich Gerstacker (1816-1872), a 19th century German essayist and traveler, first came to Arkansas in 1838 at the age of 21 and returned to Germany in 1844. Gerstaeker's writings of his travels in Arkansas and around the world formed the basis for several volumes of novels and short stories. In 1957, Evans was honored by the "Gerstacker Society" in Braunschweig during official observance of the 85th anniversary of Gerstacker's death. During Evans' trip to Germany he became good friends with Margarethe Gerstacker, Friedrich's daughter, and collected original materials on Gerstacker from her. That same year, Governor Orval Faubus commissioned Evans as an Arkansas Traveler and also bestowed honorary citizenship to Gerstacker. Evans retired for Northeastern State College in 1965 after 19 years, to continue research on Gerstacker's writings. Clarence Evans died August 10, 1988.

Implementation of virtual network function chaining through segment routing in a linux-based NFV infrastructure
This paper presents an architecture to support Vir-tual Network Functions (VNFs) chaining using the IPv6 Segment Routing (SR) network programming model. Two classes of VNFs are considered: SR-aware and SR-unaware. The operations to support both SR-aware and SR-unaware VNFs are described at an architectural level and we propose a solution for SR-unaware VNFs hosted in a NFV node. An Open Source implementation of the proposed solution for a Linux based NFV host is available and a set of performance measurements have been carried out in a testbed

Clarence Major, 11th Annual ODU Literary Festival
Clarence Major is the author of seven novels, including most recently Such Was the Season (1987) and Painted Turtle: Woman With Guitar (1988) one collection of stories, Fun and Games (1988); and eight books of poetry, most recently Surfaces and Masks (1987) and Some Observations of a Stranger at Zuin in the Latter Part of the Century (1988). He also edited the Dictionary of Afro-American Slang and The Dark and Feeling: Black American Writers and Their Work. He has won the Western States Book Award for Fiction for My Amputations, a Pushcart Prize, a Fulbright Fellowship, and a National Council on the Arts Fellowship. He has lectured and read from his work in England, Algeria, France, Liberia, West Germany, Ghana, Italy, the Netherlands, and Yugoslavia, as well as in this country. He is currently Professor of English at the University of Colorado. Major\u27s earlier work was experimental; in fact, some critics say he has been in the forefront of experimental poetry and prose. Of his most recent novel, the New York Times Book Review said: Such was the Season is an old-fashioned, straight-ahead narrative crammed with action, a dramatic storyline and meaty characterization. But it\u27s the widow Annie Eliza\u27s melodic voice, by turns lilting and gruff, that salts and peppers and sweetens this story, enriching its flavor and meaning.... Clarence Major...has himself come home to touch base with the blues and spirituals that continue to nourish and express the lives of those people he writes about so knowingly, and with contagious affection
SERA: SEgment Routing Aware Firewall for Service Function Chaining scenarios
n this paper we consider the use of IPv6 Segment Routing (SRv6) for Service Function Chaining(SFC) in an NFV infrastructure. We first analyze the issues of deploying Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) based on SR-unaware applications, which require the introduction of SR proxies in the NFV infrastructure, leading to high complexity in the configuration and in the packet processing. Then we consider the advantages of SR-aware applications, focusing on a firewall application. We present the design and implementation of the SERA (SEgment Routing Aware) firewall, which extends the Linux iptables firewall. In its basic mode the SERA firewall works like the legacy iptables firewall (it can reuse an identical set of rules), but with the great advantage that it can operate on the SR encapsulated packets with no need of an SR proxy. Moreover we define an advanced mode, in which the SERA firewall can inspect all the fields of an SR encapsulated packet and can perform SR-specific actions. In the advanced mode the SERA firewall can fully exploit the features of the IPv6 Segment Routing network programming model. A performance evaluation of the SERA firewall is discussed, based on its result a further optimized prototype has been implemented and evaluated
SR-Snort: IPv6 Segment Routing Aware IDS/IPS
Service Function Chaining (SFC) allows the delivery of advanced end-to-end services composed of one or more network functions. IPv6 Segment Routing (SRv6) is a network architecture based on source routing, where a list of segments isattached to packets to enforce different path from the shortest one. SRv6 supports SFC by assigning each network function a segment and combining these segments into a segment list.In order to fully leverage the SRv6 network programming capabilities, network functions are required to be SR-aware. In this paper, we present our implementation of SR-Snort, a SR-aware intrusion detection system (IDS) and intrusion prevention system (IPS). We extended the open-source implementation of Snort, so it can apply the configured rules to the inner packet of SR traffic. SR-Snort can handle both inner IPv4 and inner IPv6traffic. It can work in either IDS or IPS mode
