Dynamics of Global and Organizational Self-Esteem at Work

    No full text
Self-esteem represents one of the most important workers' resources, and has been studied from two different perspectives conceiving self-esteem (1) as a global (i.e., global self-esteem, GSE), or (2) as a domain-specific construct (i.e., organization-based self-esteem, OBSE). To our knowledge, no study has addressed the dynamic relations between these two different self-esteem expressions and their concurrent value as useful work-related personal resources. In this study, we addressed this issue using six-wave longitudinal data weekly gathered from N = 279 full-time workers. We privileged the analysis of the dynamic relationships between GSE and OBSE at the state level, with a close eye on their different impacts on important organizational outcomes. Results from Random Intercept Cross-Lagged Panel models revealed that GSE and OBSE did not predict each other over time, despite being concurrently closely associated within each wave. The same close relation between GSE and OBSE was observed at a trait level. Importantly, rigorous concurrent predictive models revealed that neither GSE nor OBSE predicted or were predicted by the outcomes considered in the present study (i.e., job satisfaction and work engagement). We deeply discussed the implications of these results for refining our understanding of the value of these important self-esteem expressions at work

Validation of the Organizational-Based General Self-Esteem Scale

Using data from four different samples of full-time employees (N(total) = 2,474), the present study was aimed to introduce and demonstrate the validity and reliability of the Organizational-Based General Self-esteem Scale (OB-GSE) a new six-item self-report scale to measure organizational-based self-esteem (OBSE) at work. Results provided evidence of (1) validity (internal, external, and convergent), (2) reliability, and (3) temporal stability of the OB-GSE scale. All in all, results attested the usefulness and the effectiveness of the OB-GSE scale

Emotional distress in Catholic priests and religious sisters during COVID-19: the mediational role of trait positivity

    No full text
The present study focused on the mediating role of positivity in the relationship between emotional stability, conscientiousness, with positive affect, negative affect, and anxiety, among priests and religious sisters during the COVID-19 outbreak in Italy. We examined the role of positivity as a basic disposition predisposing individuals to a positive mode of viewing reality for priests and religious sisters during the quarantine. We used data from 205 religious participants, collected during the initial phase of the COVID-19 outbreak. Results revealed that emotional stability and conscientiousness significantly and indirectly predicted positive affectivity, but were significant and negative indirect predictors of negative affect, and state anxiety. This study emphasizes the protective role of positivity in the specific population of priests and religious sisters during a pandemic outbreak

    Cymadusa filosa Savigny, 1816
Material examined. 49 individuals, 23 August 1983, municipality of São Sebastião, São Paulo state, Brazil, leg. Mendes, E., associated to algae, without depth information, MNRJ 10036; 11 individuals, 15 December 1998, Tartaruga Beach, municipality of Armação dos Búzios, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil, associated to algae, without depth information, CRFFP 80; 1 individual, 1 April 1995, Prainha Beach, municipality of Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro state, Brazil, associated to Porifera, without depth information, CRFFP 81; 14 individuals, 8 November 1997, Espírito Santo state (20.706°S, 35.457°W), associated to rhodoliths, without depth information, CRFFP 82; 22 indiviuals, 16 February 1999, Caieira Beach, municipality of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina state, Brazil, associated to algae and Bryozoa, without depth information, CRFFP 83.

Type locality. Mediterranean Sea.

Diagnosis. Antenna 1 with a 2-articulate accessory flagellum. Antenna 2 densely setose (male). Gnathopod 1 poorly setose; merus produced to form a long, acute anteroventral lobe; carpus elongated, narrow and subrectangular. Gnathopod 2 with densely setose margins, propodal palm with posterodistal defining tooth smalland acute, mid-palmar tooth absent; dactylus subequal to palm. (Modified from Peart, 2004)

Remarks. C. filosa was the first species of the genus described for Brazilian waters. Oliveira (1953) described Grubia sardenta that later was synonymized to C. filosa by Peart (2004). However, it is possible to observe some divergences between Oliveira’s and Peart’s illustrations, especially on the elongation of the carpus of gnathopod 1 of G. sardenta, which resembles more C. icapui sp. nov. The type-material used for the drawings by Oliveira is currently lost, making it impossible to check and compare the samples with the original illustrations. The second Cymadusa species recorded for Brazilian waters is C. peartae, described by Andrade & Senna (2013) with typematerial from Rio Grande do Norte and Bahia states, both in the northeastern area.Based on recent literature review of papers from many study areas, we found the following records for C. filosa for the Brazilian coast:

São Sebastião Channel, São Paulo state (Amaral et al. 2003, Corte et al. 2012); Sepetiba Bay, Rio de Janeiro state (Cardoso et al. 2011); Coqueiro Beach, municipality of Anchieta, Espírito Santo state (Costa & Nalesso 2006); Sebastião Gomes Reef and Siriba Island, Bahia state (Cunha et al. 2013); coast of Rio de Janeiro state (Bate 1862, Dana 1853); Araruama Lagoon, Rio deJaneiro state (Da Silva et al. 2005); municipality of Matinhos, Paraná state (Dubiaski-Silva & Masunari 1995); municipality of Ubatuba, São Paulo state (Tararam 1977, Tanaka & Leite 1998, Jacobucci & Leite 2006, Leite et al. 2007); municipality of Caraguatatuba, São Paulo state(Tanaka & Leite 1998, 2003); municipality of Lagoinha, São Paulo state (Tanaka & Leite 2003); Vermelha Beach, Rio de Janeiro state (Padua et al. 2013); Piedade Beach, municipality of Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Pernambuco state (Santos & Soares 1999); Costa Beach, municipality of Vila Velha, Espírito Santo state (Stofel et al. 2008); Poço Beach and Prainha Beach, municipality of Itanhaém, São Paulo state (Wakabara et al. 1983).

Besides the literature review, collection materials were examined and specimens of C. filosa were found for the following locations(previously without records for this species): coast of Espírito Santo state (20.706°S, 35.457°W); municipality of São Sebastião, São Paulo state; Caieira Beach, municipality of Florianópolis, Santa Catarina state; Tartaruga Beach, municipality of Armação dos Búzios, Rio de Janeiro state; Prainha Beach, municipality of Arraial do Cabo, Rio de Janeiro state. We believe that the wide distribution of C. filosa in Brazilian coast could be explained by human dispersal, as reported by Peart (2004).
Published as part of Andrade, Luiz F. & Senna, André R., 2017, Four new species of Cymadusa Savigny, 1816 (Amphipoda: Ampithoidae) and new records of C. filosa Savigny, 1816 from Brazilian coast, pp. 359-389 in Zootaxa 4226 (3) on pages 384-385, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.4226.3.3, http://zenodo.org/record/264030</a&gt
