This essay aims to highlight the virtue and incorruptibility of friendship in Tahar Ben Jelloun’s literary production, in particular in his novel La soudure fraternelle of 1994, republished in its entirety in 1996 under the title Éloge de l’amitié, and the sometimes complex, sometimes harmonious ties that studded Ben Jelloun’s microcosm of friendship. The contribution also intends to dwell on Tahar’s contradictions found in his unspoken words on friendship, privileging, through the study of the novel and other works, the subjective perspective of the Moroccan author, when he contradicts himself by expressing the personal contribution made to friendship, the ambiguity of the relationship with his female friends, the sometimes indefinable ties with the various writer, translator and publisher friends, the betrayal or the various friendship breakups up to the consequent “death” of friendship

Feminine Figure in the Novels of Tahar Ben Jelloun
The tragedy of the feminine character in some of Tahar Ben Jelloun's writings, in view of the social, religious, economical and political reality, imposes a hermeneutic analysis of the contours of the authentic situation of the Moroccan woman in the past and in the present. This approach will try, at first, to bring to light, the literary imagination which employs the theme of the fantasy of declination, the exasperated eroticism and the sensual delectation that is unbridled in the core of the narrative structure of the Moroccan author's oeuvres. The analytical study of the feminine figures as presented in the selected novels of this research, will substantiate an exhibition of a stereotypical feminine model. As a matter of fact, this will highlights the persuasion that Tahar Ben Jelloun, who is considered as a francophone author and francophile par excellence, has got a conflictual relationship with some features of the Moroccan culture. This attempt will reveal, at last, the use of a kind of a linguistic nomadism which combines exoticism, oral character and French language in a recycling process of constant and permanent reproducibility
Between Francophonie and World Literature in French: Tahar Ben Jelloun’s Evolving Authority
One of the most prolific authors writing in French today, Moroccan born Tahar Ben Jelloun has built a rich and multi-layered career as a literary figure and public intellectual in France. He is an excellent figure to use as a case study when analysing the specificities and implications of categorising a particular author and their works within such frameworks as ‘francophonie’ or ‘world literature in French.’ In this paper, I examine the contemporary culture industry’s shaping of the authorial identity of Tahar Ben Jelloun, whether as writer or public persona. Specifically, this article considers Ben Jelloun at three particular moments in his career, and examines two fictionalised testimonials, Cette aveuglante absence de lumière (This Blinding Absence of Light) and Par le feu (By Fire). Each of the three moments represents a particular positioning of the author’s identity as, alternatively, Arab, Middle Eastern, francophone, African, some combination of these, or as a figure of World literature in French. The two texts were chosen because, despite their similarities in terms of genre and theme, stylistic differences between the two suggest that Ben Jelloun considered shaped the second with critiques of the first in mind. The positioning of Ben Jelloun at each of these junctures – whether by himself, his critics, his readers, or some combination of these – has profound implications for the way his work is read and for readers’ understanding of the role of the author more generally
ANALISIS TERHADAP KEABSAHAN PEGANGKATAN MENTERI YANG BERSTATUS WARGA NEGARA ASING MENUURUT PASAL 22 UNDANG-UNDANG NOMOR 39 TAHUN 2008 TENTANG KEMENTERIAN NEGARA (STUDI KASUS PENGANGKATAN MENTERI ENERGI DAN SUMBER DAYA MINERAL ARCANDRA TAHAR)
In the year of 2016, the President of the Republic of Indonesia inaugurate one of the state
functionary, which is a Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources who has dual citizenship status.
By that time the Minister known as Arcandra Tahar, admitted that he had become an American
Citizen. Article 23 of the Law Number 39 Year 2008 about Citizenship of the Republic Indonesia
regulates that if a person acquires another citizenship voluntarily, they will automatically lose
their Indonesian citizenship. Therefore, Indonesian Citizenship of Archandra Tahar is invalid. The
subject matter in this study is about the validity of the appointment of a Minister who is a foreign
citizen in Indonesia based on Article 22 of Law Number 39 Year 2008 about State Ministry (case
study of the appointment of the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Arcandra Tahar). The
author examines the subject matter comprehensively using normartive legal research methods.
Based on the results, it can be concluded that Indonesian citizenship of Arcandra Tahar has been
lost since Arcandra Tahar swore allegiance to the United States of America. The loss of Arcandra
Tahar's Indonesian Citizenship is regulated in the Citizenship Act which states that people who
knowingly promise to be loyal to other countries will lose their status as Indonesian citizen. In
connection to Article 22 of the State Ministry Act, Arcandra Tahar is never legally a Minister of
the Republic of Indonesia because the main requirement to become a candidate is the person must
be an Indonesian citizen
Ritual fictions: The enigma made flesh in the novels of Tahar Ben Jelloun
Tahar Ben Jelloun is a Moroccan poet and novelist who is presently active and writing in French. This thesis deals primarily with the novelistic works of the author, examining the way in which he uses rituals as a narrative device or as a theme, and how they can be seen to reflect on other salient features of his writing.
Ritual is examined as a metaphor whose incorporation into a novel can paradoxically implicate the reader and the author in the work, in the same way that ritual in life may implicate the participants in a myth. The implications of this interpretation are manifold in Ben Jelloun's work, and this thesis examines these under several broad themes, including those of meaning, enigma, freedom and the body. The thesis argues that Ben Jelloun's use of ritual reinforces his strategy of subversion and manipulation as key elements in the generative process
Abstract
By providing a platform for fictional storytellers who took turns to recount Ahmed-Zahra’s ‘ambiguous adventure’, with the narrative technique of the Arabian storyteller and author of Thousand and One Nights, Scheherazade, the novelist, Tahar Ben Jelloun, makes a "psychological" examination to expose the failure of African masculinity. The title of this timeless work, L'enfant de sable, is already revealing images of changing matter, inconsistency and the precarious nature of this child’s personality. Throughout L’enfant de sable, this disillusioned philosopher plunges us inexorably in an inextricable maze of alleys opening onto a dreamlike universe that reveals man’s disarray in a universe that seems difficult for him to understand. It is in practicing psychotherapy that Tahar Ben Jelloun manages to detect his protagonist’s “name and bodily disorder", Ahmed Bey alias "zahra" Amirat Lhob "princess of love". This woman, disguised as a man by her father, is plagued by iatrogenic suffering: she seeks to reclaim her "usurped" femininity. Our goal in this paper is to expose the failure of the phallocentric concept in the African society by applying psychoanalysis founded on the models of distribution of the human psyche by Sigmund Freud, Carl Gustav Jung, Northrop Frye, and Jacques Lacan. As a psychoanalyst, Tahar Ben Jelloun has been able to explore Ahmed-Zahra's unconsciousness to finally portray not only the complexities of the condition of the African woman in general, and that of the Moroccan Muslim society in particular, but also the existential ambiguity whose outcome is always the annihilation of man and the individual conscience
Spaces stories : romantic and poetic works of Tahar Djaout
Assassinated in 1993, Tahar Djaout is intimately linked to the Algerian tragedy of the end of last century and is one of the most celebrated writers in his country for his martyrdom. A writer, poet, short story writer and journalist, Tahar Djaout’s many biographical accounts led to mitigating and politicizing his literary work. In order to show the richness of his artistic creation, this study intends to explore the imaginary and the topographies of his works, fiction and poetry as well as the report they weave between the urban area and the rural area, the complex and nodal point of Algerian identity and the identity of the author himself. Instead of a rigid pairing that would determine the rurality-urbanity relation, Spaces Stories intends to examine the value systems that organize its meaning in the literary work not only by emphasizing the spacial configurations and their variations, but also by analyzing the respective temporalities of diegesis and enunciation. The various configurations of temporalities and spaces with their variations in Djaout’s literary production illuminate the popular imagination as well as the oral culture ; in this way, revealing his aesthetic vision’s constituent viewpoint. On another side, his work is spanned by the relation that the modern novel maintains – whatever the era and literary field – with rural imaginary in an ever-changing world since the industrial revolution. The urban mythology of modernity in the novel is then questioned to reveal ‘the specter’ of the rural imagination that haunts it where we least expect it

Breaking into the Boundaries of World Literature: Tahar Ben Jelloun's "L'enfant de sable"
The essay aims to analyze the novel "L’enfant de sable" (1985) – the first bestseller by the French-Moroccan author Tahar Ben Jelloun – in the perspective of World Literature as underpinned by the theories of David Damrosch and Pascale Casanova. This theoretical approach illustrates to what extent the success of a literary work is the product of the intersection between its aesthetic value and the socio-economic dynamics governing the literary market. A global writer on the threshold of two worlds, Ben Jelloun concocts a hybrid work in which Persian-Arabic literary and cultural traditions melt together with their Western counterparts. In particular, L’enfant de sable is characterized by a multilayered hybridity for a strategy of negotiation between the two cultures is employed at many levels: narratological, intertextual and linguistic. This strategy of hybridity/negotiation may be deemed as a mere compromise to reach a larger readership. Indeed, analyzing the novel within this theoretical framework highlights its ambiguities: remarkably, the author has been accused of commodifying his own culture to create a product palatable to the Euro-American market and compliant with Westerners’ expectations about the Arabic world – the topic appealing to French readers being the evidence of it. Yet, this reading also points out the novel’s undeniable aesthetic value: Ben Jelloun succeeds in merging two traditions artfully while opening a window into recondite aspects of Moroccan culture
