Natural and healing revenge in the landscape of patriarchy: Gender analysis of Tokarczuk's Empusium
No full textThis thesis focuses on a gender-based literary analysis of the novel Empusion by Polish author Olga Tokarczuk (Empuzjon, 2022). The selected work is analysed using a methodology of resistant reading grounded in feminist literary theory, which emphasizes the identification of gender aspects within the narrative. This "health resort horror", set a year before the outbreak of the First World War, presents a dialogue among a closed community of patients suffering from tuberculosis who are being treated in a mountain sanatorium. The presence of an androcentric culture appears at first glance to be the foundation of the story. Within the framework of gender analysis, the thesis explores how the author engages with this concept and to what extent it influences the narrators of the story or the readers themselves. The aim is to critically evaluate the role of gender aspects in shaping the final narrative of the work and to examine how they influence the construction of characters, setting, power hierarchies, and gender inequalities. No full textDiplomová práce se věnuje genderové literární analýze románu Empusion od polské autorky Olgy Tokarczukové (Empuzjon, 2022). Vybrané dílo je analyzováno metodologií vzdorného čtení, která vychází z feministické literární teorie, kdy mimo literární hledisko klade důraz také na hledání genderových aspektů příběhu. "Přírodně léčivý horor", odehrávající se rok před začátkem první světové války, je dialogem uzavřeného společenství mužů nakažených tuberkulózou, kteří se léčí v horském sanatoriu. Přítomnost androcentrické kultury je zde na první pohled základem příběhu. V rámci genderové analýzy diplomová práce prozkoumává, jak autorka s tímto konceptem pracuje a nakolik mu podléhají samotní vypravěči(ky) příběhu nebo čtenáři a čtenářky. Cílem je kritické zhodnocení role genderových aspektů ve vytváření výsledného narativu díla a zjištění, jakým způsobem zasahují do konstrukce postav, prostředí, hierarchie moci a genderových nerovností. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Contemprary queer youth cinematography: continuities and discontinuities
No full textEN This thesis aims to describe the strategies by which representations of non-heterosexuality seek to make non-heterosexuality culturally intelligible. Drawing on theoretical assumptions taken from Judith Butler, specifically the desire of the abjectly excluded for recognition, it will be shown that representations of non-heterosexuality provide a site in which norms of recognisability are negotiated to maintain the possibilities of a liveable life of non- heterosexuality. Films and television series that fulfil the criteria of the coming-of-age genre or school sub-genre and that were produced between 2015 and 2025, such as Love, Simone, Sex Education or Heartstopper, will be analysed. The analysis, based on the methods of paranoid and reparative reading described by Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick, will focus on how the examined works engage with the traditions of their genre and historical ways of depicting non-heterosexuality.CZ Cílem této diplomové práce je popsat strategie, jimiž reprezentace neheterosexuality usilují o kulturní srozumitelnost neheterosexuality. Na základě teoretických východisek převzatých od Judith Butler, konkrétně o touze abjektově vyloučených po uznání, bude ukázáno, že reprezentace neheterosexuality představuje místo, v němž dochází k vyjednávání s normami rozpoznatelnosti o možnostech žitelného života neheterosexuality. Analýze budou podrobeny filmy a televizní seriály, které naplňují kritéria žánru "s dospívajícími o dospívání", resp. školního podžánru, a které vznikly mezi lety 2015 až 2025, např. Love, Simone, Sex Education nebo Heartstopper. Analysis of the Depiction of Ukrainian Women in The First Months after the Russian Invasion of Ukraine
No full textThis thesis analyzes the ways Ukrainian women were represented in Czech online news media during the first two months after the outbreak of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. The aim of the research is to describe the media framings and strategies used in the portrayal of Ukrainian women, and to identify the ideological structures reflected in these framings. The thesis also examines how notions of masculinity and femininity are constructed in the context of war and how these constructions shape media narratives. The theoretical section defines key concepts related to gender, ideology, discourse, media representations, and gender stereotypes in wartime. The contextual chapter explores the position of Ukrainian women in the army and civilian life during the war, along with related challenges. The methodological part details a combination of quantitative content analysis and critical discourse analysis. The quantitative approach identifies the frequency of themes and actors in media texts, while the discourse analysis investigates the linguistic strategies that construct and reinforce these images. The analytical part shows that, although emancipatory elements occasionally appear, stereotypical framings of women as passive victims or caretakers prevail, while their agency, expert voices, or...Tato diplomová práce analyzuje způsoby mediální reprezentace ukrajinských žen v českých online zpravodajských médiích během prvních dvou měsíců po vypuknutí ruské invaze na Ukrajinu v roce 2022. Cílem práce je popsat, jaké mediální rámování a strategie jsou při zobrazování ukrajinských žen využívány a jaké ideologické struktury se v těchto rámcích odrážejí. Práce také zkoumá, jak jsou ve válečném kontextu konstruovány představy o maskulinitě a feminitě a jak tyto konstrukce ovlivňují mediální obrazy. Teoretická část vymezuje klíčové koncepty týkající se genderu a ideologie, diskurzu, mediálních reprezentací a genderových stereotypů ve válečných konfliktech. Kontextuální kapitola přibližuje postavení ukrajinských žen v armádě i civilním životě během války a související problémy. Metodologická část podrobně představuje kombinaci kvantitativní obsahové analýzy a kritické diskurzivní analýzy. Kvantitativní přístup identifikuje frekvenci témat a aktérů v mediálních textech, zatímco diskurzivní analýza zkoumá jazykové strategie, které tyto obrazy vytvářejí a udržují. Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
