Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Recursive identification of multivariable ARX models in the presence of a priori information: Robustness and regularization
© 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved. This paper considers the nonlinear recursive algorithm for the identification of multivariable ARX models (autoregressive with exogenous input). It is assumed that the following a priori information is available: a distribution class to which the stochastic disturbance belongsa distribution class to which unknown parameters of ARX model belong A priori information (a) allows a description of outliers (large realizations of the stochastic process which are inconsistent with the largest part of population of observations) and introduces the nonlinear transformation of the prediction error in the recursive algorithm. A priori information (b) defines the initial conditions of the algorithm (for the vector of unknown parameters and the matrix gain) which increases the convergence speed in initial iterations. This intervention in the algorithm represents its regularization. Regularization problems are recently actualized thanks to statistical learning theory. Thanks to a priori information, the considered recursive algorithm is robust with respect to the uncertainty of statistical characteristics of disturbances and has the increased convergence speed in initial iterations. It is formulated theorem for convergence of estimated parameters with probability one. Simulation results illustrate the practical behavior of the algorithm
Recursive identification of block-oriented nonlinear systems in the presence of outliers
© 2019 Elsevier Ltd The paper considers the recursive identification of nonlinear (Hammerstein) model in the presence of outliers. In this model the nonlinear part is a polynomial of a known order in the input and linear part is described as an ARX (auto - regressive model with exogenous inputs) model. It is assumed that there is a priori information about a disturbance distribution in the form of a class of distributions. Owing that fact it is possible to use robust statistics in the sense of Huber. But Huber‘s loss function is only first order differentiable. It follows that second order methods (Newton – Raphson methodology) cannot be used. The problem is avoided by analysis of the structure of least favourable distribution. It is shown that robust recursive algorithm derivation can be set in frame of l1−l2 – norm estimation problem. The main contributions of the paper are: (i) it is shown that the robust identification belongs to l1−l2 – norm estimation problem; (ii) the derivation of the new robust recursive algorithm; (iii) it is shown that robust recursive algorithm is switching algorithm (collection of linear least squares and sign algorithm) and that fact opens the new research opportunities
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
A global convergent outlier robust adaptive predictor for MIMO Hammerstein models
Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. The paper considers the outlier-robust recursive stochastic approximation algorithm for adaptive prediction of multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) Hammerstein model with a static nonlinear block in polynomial form and a linear block is output error (OE) model. It is assumed that there is a priori information about a distribution class to which a real disturbance belongs. Within the framework of these assumptions, the main contributions of this paper are: (i) for MIMO Hammerstein OE model, the stochastic approximation algorithm, based on robust statistics (in the sense of Huber), is derived; (ii) scalar gain of algorithm is exactly determined using the Laplace function; and (iii) a global convergence of robust adaptive predictor is proved. The proof is based on martingale theory and generalized strictly positive real conditions. Practical behavior of algorithm was illustrated by simulations. Copyright © 2016 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd
