A class of nonlinear boundary value problems for second order vector differential equations
On the solution set of nonconvex subdifferential evolution inclusions
summary:We consider nonlinear systems with a priori feedback. We establish the existence of admissible pairs and then we show that the Lagrange optimal control problem admits an optimal pair. As application we work out in detail two examples of optimal control problems for nonlinear parabolic partial differential equations
Nonlinear elliptic differential equations with multivalued nonlinearities
In this paper we study nonlinear elliptic boundary value problems with monotone and nonmonotone multivalued nonlinearities. First we consider the case of monotone nonlinearities. In the first result we assume that the multivalued nonlinearity is defined on all R. Assuming the existence of an upper and of a lower solution, we prove the existence of a solution between them, Also for a special version of the problem, we prove the existence of extremal solutions in the order interval formed by the upper and lower solutions. Then we drop the requirement that the monotone nonlinearity is defined on all of R. This case is important because it covers variational inequalities. Using the theory of operators of monotone type we show that the problem has a solution. Finally in the last part we consider an eigenvalue problem with a nonmonotone multivalued nonlinearity. Using the critical point theory for nonsmooth locally Lipschitz functionals we prove die existence of at least two nontrivial solutions (multiplicity theorem)

IgG4-RELATED CRANIO-SPINAL HYPERTROPHIC PACHYMENINGITIS INVOLVING THE INTERNAL AUDITORY CANAL
Immunoglobulin G4 (IgG4)-related hypertrophic pachymeningitis, which is a focally or diffusely thickened dura mater and lymphoplasmacytic infiltration with increased IgG4 bearing plasma cells, is a rare disease, and cases involving the whole cervical spine are even rarer. Here, we describe a case of probable IgG4-related hypertrophic pachymeningitis involving the whole cervical spine and the auditory canals in an 18-year-old male. The patient, who had a history of paresthesia and had previously experienced weakness, presented with generalized tonic seizures. A decompressive laminectomy on cervical vertebrae was performed as a matter of urgency, removing intradural fibrous material. The patient responded well to treatment and was discharged walking independently, with no strength deficit to any of the 4 limbs, and with normal blood tests
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
The no evidence of disease activity (NEDA) concept in MS: impact of spinal cord MRI
Background: Measures to define treatment response, such as no evidence of disease activity (NEDA), are routinely used in multiple sclerosis (MS) clinical practice. Although spinal cord involvement is a frequent feature of MS, its magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) monitoring is not routinely performed. Objective: To assess the impact of spinal cord MRI in the definition of NEDA in a cohort of people with MS (pwMS) with available spinal cord imaging performed as for routine monitoring. Methods: We included 115 pwMS undergoing treatment with first-line disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) and retrospectively analyzed the presence of NEDA in the whole cohort, either considering or not spinal cord imaging. Results: When considering only clinical and brain MRI measures, 97 out of 115 pwMS (84.3%) satisfied the criteria for NEDA. In the same cohort, the number of pwMS with NEDA significantly decreased to 88 (76.5%) (p < 0.01) when considering also spinal cord imaging. Conclusion: These findings suggest that, in routine clinical practice, spinal cord MRI monitoring in pwMS under first-line DMTs leads to a slight but significant change in the proportion of subjects classified as clinically and radiologically stable according to the NEDA definition
