    Cucina russa e lessico italiano. Il caso di 'Insalata russa'

    In the present article the author deals with the culinary metaphor ‘insalata russa’ (‘Russian salad’) in Italian language and culture. The author starts with a short review of the dish that is called in Italian ‘insalata russa’, and that roughly corresponds to the Russian salad ‘Olivier’. As to the uses of the culinary metaphor ‘insalata russa’, analyzed by the author, they point to the fact that in Italian it is used with the meaning of ‘mix of heterogeneous and varied elements’. The use occurrences of the locution ‘insalata russa’ comprise the titles of three anthologies of tales (published respectively in 1925, 1934 and 1996), the Italian title of the Russian film Okno v Pariž (Window to Paris), 1994, and the results of the query ‘insalata russa’ in the corpora of Italian language COris/ COdis. Finally, the author compares these results with those provided by the search of the same locution in Russian (‘русский салат’). This last search reveals that in Russian the locution ‘Russian salad’ is used exclusively in its literal sense

    Il palindromo in Velimir Chlebnikov: “specchio del suono"

    This article opens with a brief overview of the form and meaning of the palindrome in literature, maths and biology. It then focuses on the revival of the palindrome by the Futurist poet Khlebnikov, who in 1912 composed a short poem consisting of palindromes and who later wrote a long poem entirely in palindromic verses devoted to the legendary historical figure of Stenka Razin. The palindrome is a rhetorical device that meant more than a mere verbal game in Khlebnikov's poetics. It reflects his conception of the word as magic and cosmogonic power which can transform and recreate the world. It is also a figure suitable for the expression of a time of troubles and revolutions. Khlebnikov himself interprets his own life as a palindrome of Razin's, as he declares: “I am the opposite of Razin, I am Razin inside-out”. During the Soviet era, in particular during the rule of Stalin, the palindrome was not approved of, as it was considered a formalistic and purely rhetorical form. Its revival in the 1960s and then again at the beginning of the 1990s acquired political and revolutionary significance. From the 2000s onwards it has become very popular and many publications, sites and blogs in Russia are devoted to it, while its revolutionary significance has noticeably declined. In recent times Khlebnikov's then record-length palindromic poem “Razin” has been overtaken, in terms of length, by numerous other poems composed in various countries

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     The paper examines one of the earliest translations of texts belonging to the Latino-Romance-Germanic cultures in the Ruthenian lands in the second half of the fifteenth century, namely the so called Poslanie Feofila Dederkina (“Theofil Dederkin’s epistle”). The paper points out the importance of this translation in the Ruthenian cultural and confessional background and then tries to identify the translated toponyms of towns, villages, places involved in the earthquake that struck Italy in the year 1456

    The aim of this paper is to compare the two multilingual areas of Alto Adige in Italy and Tatarstan in the Russian Federation, which apparently show common bilingual features, but, according to the typological model of ‘linguistic situation’ (LS), proposed by M. A. Gorjačeva, present interesting elements of asymmetry. The analysis of these two case studies is based on such linguistic and extra linguistic parameters as the language repertoires of the population, the demographic and communicative potential (the number of speakers and communicative functions) of the involved languages and the possible variation of the LS, due to historical, political and economic changes in the area. The apparently common social bilingualism and official status of the titular languages, guaranteed de jure by local legislation, reveal different possibilities of implementation of the linguistic autonomy at the level of language policy and planning. People history, traditions and prestige of the involved languages can strongly affect the relations between the speakers. In both areas political and administrative measures were applied in order to introduce a balanced bilingualism in all spheres of public life, but these efforts have produced a kind of ‘separative’ bilingualism in Alto Adige and partial bilingualism in Tatarstan
