Pero el libro de Emilia Ferraro, Reciprocidad, don y deuda, merece ser tomado en cuenta de manera muy especial porque a mi juicio constituye un aporte inusual y marca un referente muy importante para la disciplina, por un conjunto de razones que a lo largo de mi corta exposición serán detallados. El escenario de la investigación es la comunidad campesina andina de Pesillo, en la región norandina del Ecuador, y el conjunto de hechos que se inscriben en el programa de crédito de la Casa Campesina Cayambe. Este programa cuenta con el reconocimiento de ser uno de los más exitosos, ya sea por la altísima tasa de retorno de los préstamos como por haber contribuido efectivamente a elevar los niveles de calidad de vida y participación de las comunidades
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: a comparison of two staging systems in a population-based study
No full textBackground and purpose: To compare two recently developed staging systems for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) [King's College and Milano-Torino staging (MITOS) systems] in an incident, population-based cohort of patients with ALS. Methods: Since 2009, a prospective registry has been recording all incident cases of ALS in the Emilia Romagna region in Italy. For each patient, detailed clinical information, including the ALS functional rating scale score, is collected at each follow-up. Results: Our study on 545 incident cases confirmed that King's College stages occurred at predictable times and were quite evenly spaced out throughout the disease course (occurring at approximately 40%, 60% and 80% of the disease course), whereas MITOS stages were mostly skewed towards later phases of the disease. In the King's College system there was a decrease in survival and an increase in deaths with escalating stages, whereas in the MITOS system survival curves pertaining to intermediate stages overlapped and the number of deaths was fairly homogenous throughout most stages. Conclusions: The King's College staging system had a higher homogeneity (i.e. smaller differences in survival among patients in the same stage) and a higher discriminatory ability (i.e. greater differences in survival among patients in different stages), being more suitable for individualized prognosis and for measuring efficacy of therapeutic interventions

In a time that equates knowing with certitude, the unfinishing of things,speaks to me of the open-endedness and uncertainty that mystique Osho calls“awe”. The generative and fertile power of NOT knowing. Whatever its definition,inspiration is born from a continuous “I don’t know”, Polish poet and NobelLaureate Wislawa Szymborska wrote.Far from being ignorance, not knowing is the acknowledgment of andsurrendering to the ongoing mystery of Life; the conscious abandonment of theneed for control to embrace the Mystery as it is unfolding now in my life. No full textA Visual Essay that uses the painting of the late visionary Peruvian and Shaman painter Pablo Amaringo, published in the Collection "Ayahuasca Visions", and the world renowned novel by the late Peruvian essayist and poet Cesar Calmo, "Las Tres mitades de Ino Moxo" (The three halves of Ino Moxo), to discuss a novel and so far understated way into knowledge via plants. These are plants that Indigenous peoples of the Amazon call "sacred plants". I propose that they are epistemological systems in their own right, “ways of knowing” that provide pathways to a deeper understanding of “reality”
