Translating and dismantling the myth: the memoirs of Isadora Duncan
This review presents a tour of (Des)ordenando a Isadora Duncan (2023), by Josefina Zuain. Isadora ‘almost out of beta’: Tracing the development of a new software tool for performing artists
Mark Coniglio is an artist who has recently programmed Isadora, a real-time software tool to support the creation of interactive live performance work for installation or stage. Programmed primarily to manipulate digital video, the Isadora software interface is designed to be easier to use than other similar realtime software tools. In dialogue with Scott deLahunta, Coniglio discusses his motivation and intention in developing Isadora, explores connections between his artistic and programming practice, talks about the use of the software in his own work with the performance company Troika Ranch and speculates on his role as author of the software in relation to those who use it to create their own work. This is followed by comments from some artists who have been using the Isadora software. The main aim of this dialogue is to provide an insight into the creation of software tools for artists to those who may be relatively new to this practice. © Intellect Ltd 2005
Solving a Charade: Notes on the Margins of Steegmuller’s book «Your Isadora»
Autorka omawia opracowanie Francisa Steegmullera (w tłumaczeniu Agnieszki Kreczmar) pt. Sięgając do polskojęzycznej prasy, autorka wypunktowuje omyłki i uproszczenia omawianej pozycji. The author discusses Francis Steegmuller’s book “Your Isadora”: The Love Story of Isadora Duncan and Gordon Craig Told through Letters and Diaries Never Before Published, translated into Polish by Agnieszka Kreczmar. The author notes that its focus on Duncan and Craig’s romantic relationship pushes artistic matters into the background and perpetuates the unfair tendency to portray the dancer-choreographer in terms of her love and sex life. Based on information from Polish-language periodicals, the author lists the errors and simplifications in Steegmuller’s book. She also adds to its findings by evoking biographical details about Duncan’s public profile (the deliberate shaping of her image in the press), politics (the pro-Polish aspect of her asking the Governor General’s to leave theatre box) or her role in reforming the performing arts (her aesthetic innovations in dance and choreography). The author of the article also supplements the biographer’s findings with information about the Berlin school of Isadora and Elizabeth Duncan
The dance for the theater of the future : reading Isadora Duncan
The author analyzes Isadora Duncan’s ideas expressed in her lecture The Dance of the Future, setting them against the backdrop of the manifestos and concepts of Adolphe Appia, Edward Gordon Craig, and Konstantin Stanislavsky, who shared her interests and/or knew her personally. The marginalization of Isadora Duncan in theater history is interpreted in the article as resulting from the patriarchal character of twentieth- and early twenty-first century theater, based on the cult of great masters. Revisiting Duncan’s ideas is thus a step towards revising historical narratives and speculatively expanding the choice of traditions. Referring to feminist theories, institutional critique, and disability studies, the author identifies the progressive elements of Duncan’s thinking that correspond to innovative trends in contemporary theater and performance practices
Bees are of great ecological importance as they play a crucial role in pollination, which is essential for maintaining ecosystems and biodiversity. Additionally, they are fundamental to food diversity, contributing to the production of various agricultural crops. Economically, bees are valuable not only for the products and by-products they generate, such as honey, but also for their positive impact on agriculture, enhancing crop productivity and quality. Bees of the genus Apis are stinging bees, while bees of the tribe Meliponini, commonly referred to as native, indigenous, or stingless bees (ASF), have an atrophied sting and include species such as Tetragona clavipes (Borá) and Scaptotrigona depilis (Canudo). This study presents the physicochemical characterization of a honey sample from these two ASF species, originating from the western region of Paraná, Brazil. Physicochemical analyses revealed differences in the honey of these species, and some parameters did not meet the standards established by current legislation, which is based on Apis honey. Understanding ASF species and the properties of their honey can help consumers make more conscious and sustainable choices, favoring products that respect the environment, promote bee welfare, and contribute to establishing the quality and identity of products from the western region of Paraná.
