Prenatal depression, fetal neurobehavior, and infant temperament: Novel insights on early neurodevelopment from a socioeconomically disadvantaged Indian cohort.
This article extends the research focusing on the early origins of psychopathology into the prenatal period, by exploring the association between maternal prenatal depression and offspring (fetal and infant) neurobehavior. The sample is recruited from a rural population in South India where women in the third trimester of pregnancy were assessed for depression and the heart rate responses of their fetuses to extrinsically applied vibroacoustic stimuli were studied. At 2 months postbirth, infant temperament and cortisol responsivity to immunization were assessed. The association between maternal prenatal depression and fetal responsivity to vibroacoustic stimulation, and infant responsivity to immunization, was U shaped with higher levels of responsivity noted in the offspring of mothers with very high and very low depression scores, and lower levels noted in the offspring of mothers with moderate depression scores. Maternal prenatal depression was not associated with infant temperament. The findings highlight the importance of environmental influences in the developmental origins of neurobehavior, suggesting that such differences, not evident at baseline, may emerge upon exposure to stressors. The study also emphasizes the need for further investigation in low- and middle-income contexts by providing preliminary evidence of the differing patterns of association observed between high- and low-income populations
Belief and Ageing: Spiritual pathways in later life
Based on 40 years' interviewing experience, this book illustrates the variety of religious, spiritual and other beliefs held by older people. It provides models of research procedure, especially in the context of bereavement. Participants include not only British Christians, but also Muslims, Humanists and witnesses of the Soviet persecution of religion. The author argues that both welfare professionals and gerontologists need to pay far more consideration to belief as a constituent of well-being in later life. The book looks to the future and increasing diversity of choice in matters of belief among Britain and Europe's older citizens as a consequence of immigration and globalisation
Tanggung Jawab Hukum Terhadap Pelaksanaan Perjanjian Kerja Musiman di P.G Mojo Sragen
In a certain time work agreement involving two parties, namely the P.G Mojo Sragen party and the worker, it is called a reciprocal agreement and therefore creates rights and obligations for the parties. If in the implementation of the rights and obligations between P.G Mojo Sragen and workers, one of the parties does not carry out their achievements, it will result in legal liability. The purpose of this study was to determine the process of agreement between P.G Mojo Sragen and workers, the applicable regulations and the rights and obligations of a certain time work agreement between P.G Mojo Sragen and workers, as well as legal responsibility if one of the parties made a mistake from the work agreement. The method used in this study is a normative approach because in this study, which are legal rules, legal principles in legal responsibility between P.G Mojo Sragen and workers. The type of research used by the author in this research is descriptive research to clearly describe the legal responsibility between P.G Mojo Sragen and workers. The results of this study indicate that in the process of implementing a work agreement for a certain time, prior to the occurrence of the agreement, the administrative requirements and legal requirements in accordance with Article 1320 of the Civil Code are: (1) Agreeing (2) Legal Capability (3) A certain matter (4) An lawful cause. At the time the agreement was signed with a certain time agreement P.G Mojo Sragen with workers that had been made by P.G Mojo Sragen based on a standard agreement. After the agreement, a binding legal relationship arises and gives birth to rights and obligations. If in the implementation one of the parties does not fulfill its rights and obligations, then it must be responsible on the basis of default in accordance with Article 1243 of the Civil Code and if one of the parties violates the applicable law, it can be accounted for based on unlawful acts in accordance with Article 1365 of the Civil Code
Autonomous underwater vehicles: future platforms for fisheries acoustics
Autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) are unmanned submersibles that can be pre-programmed to navigate in three dimensions under water. The technological advances required for reliable deployment, mission control, performance, and recovery of AUVs have developed considerably over the past 10 years. Currently, there are several vehicles operating successfully in the offshore industries as well as in the applied and academic oceanographic sciences. This article reviews the application of AUVs to fisheries- and plankton-acoustics research. Specifications of the main AUVs currently in operation are given. Compared to traditional platforms for acoustic instruments, AUVs can sample previously impenetrable environments such as the sea surface, the deep sea, and under-sea ice. Furthermore, AUVs are typically small, quiet, and have the potential to operate at low cost and be unconstrained by the vagaries of weather. Examples of how these traits may be utilized in fisheries-acoustics science are given with reference to previous work in the North Sea and Southern Ocean and to potential future applications. Concurrent advances in multi-beam sonar technology and species identification, using multi-frequency and broadband sonars, will further enhance the utility of AUVs for fisheries acoustics. However, before many of the more prospective applications can be accomplished, advances in power-source technology are required to increase the range of operation. The paper ends by considering developments that may turn AUVs from objects sometimes perceived as science fiction into instruments used routinely to gather scientific fact
Measuring Uncertainty
This article, authored by P.G. Moore for the Royal Statistical Society's website, provides well-defined exercises to assess the probabilities of decision-making and the degree of uncertainty. The author states the focus of the article as: "When analyzing situations which involve decisions to be made as between alternative courses of action under conditions of uncertainty, decision makers and their advisers are often called upon to assess judgmental probability distributions of quantities whose true values are unknown to them. How can this judgment be taught?" Moore provides five different exercises and even external reference for those interested in further study of the topic
Maternal depression and foetal responses to novel stimuli: Insights from a socio-economically disadvantaged Indian cohort
Maternal stress during pregnancy has pervasive effects on stress responsivity in children. This study is the first to test the hypothesis that maternal prenatal depression, as observed in South India, may be associated with how foetuses respond to a potentially stressful stimulus. We employed measures of foetal heart rate at baseline, during exposure to a vibroacoustic stimulus, and post-stimulation, to study patterns of response and recovery in 133 third trimester foetuses of depressed and non-depressed mothers. We show that the association between maternal depression and foetal stress responsivity is U-shaped with foetuses of mothers with high and low depression scores demonstrating elevated responses, and poorer recovery, than foetuses of mothers with moderate levels. The right amount of intra-uterine stimulation is important in conditioning foetuses towards optimal regulation of their stress response. Our results imply that, in certain environmental contexts, exposure to moderate amounts of intra-uterine stress may facilitate this process

High Field Nuclear Magnetic Resonance In Transition Metal Substituted Bafe2as2
We report high field 75As nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) measurements on Co and Cu substituted BaFe2As2 single crystals displaying same structural/magnetic transition T0?128 K. From our anisotropy studies in the paramagnetic state, we strikingly found virtually identical quadrupolar splitting and consequently the quadrupole frequency νQ?2.57(1) MHz for both compounds, despite the claim that each Cu delivers 2 extra 3d electrons in BaFe2As2 compared to Co substitution. These results allow us to conclude that a subtle change in the crystallographic structure, particularly in the Fe-As tetrahedra, must be the most probable tuning parameter to determine T0 in this class of superconductors rather than electronic doping. Furthermore, our NMR data around T0 suggest coexistence of tetragonal/paramagnetic and orthorhombic/antiferromagnetic phases between the structural and the spin density wave magnetic phase transitions, similarly to what was reported for K-doped BaFe2As2 [Urbano et al., Phys. The Eucharist - Source and Summit of the Life and Mission of P.G. Frassati
Życie i działalność bł. P.G. Frassatiego bez wątpienia wskazuje na dar i tajemnicę Eucharystii. To właśnie sakrament Eucharystii był motorem działania włoskiego studenta, miłośnika górskich wypraw, a nade wszystko człowieka bez reszty oddanego ubogim i chorym – Apostoła Miłosierdzia. The author shows how the life of the blessed P.G.
