    Lei Feng Falls From Favor

This is one of hundreds of 60-second radio spots created by the Center for East Asian Studies (CEAS) for Kansas Public Radio (KPR). The purpose of this outreach program is to introduce the people of Kansas to the culture and current issues of East Asia.Broadcast Transcript: Back in the days of the Cultural Revolution here in China, Lei Feng was the person every young Communist wanted to be and Mao Zedong proclaimed him the shining star in Communism's pantheon.. He was selfless, loyal and true. According to the legend, he fixed military trucks, he darned his compatriot's socks, he read Mao's Little Red Book by candlelight. And he died at age 21, felled by a falling telephone pol. He was an icon. Until now, that is. Apparently, icon status has a shelf life and it is 50 years. Fifty years and a shift from Communism to Capitalism that is. These days, Lei Feng is box office poison. Not a single ticket sold to the opening of three new films about Lei Feng that were to be shown on "Learn from Lei Feng Day." Even an app called Micro Lei Feng failed to raise his profile. Apparently, Chinese youth are laid back about Lei Feng. #China #Hacker #CEA

AGE AND LOCATION OF TYPE MATERIAL. — Upper Permian, Dongpan section, southwest Guangxi, South China. TAXON CODE. — 293. STATUS. — Valid. DIAGNOSIS. — “Test coniform, its height nearly equal to or slightly larger than maximum width. Outer shell spongy, with poorly or welldeveloped conical mammae, with or without spines. Pores small and subcircular. Spines short, three-bladed or rod-like. Inner shell small, spherical, spongy, and unclear in structure because of recrystallization. Shells between outer and inner shells thin, close to each other, coniform and connected by fine radial beams.” (Feng in Feng et al. 2006a: 31).Published as part of Noble, Paula, Aitchison, Jonathan C., Danelian, Taniel, Dumitrica, Paulian, Maletz, Jörg, Suzuki, Noritoshi, Cuvelier, Jessie, Caridroit, Martial & O'Dogherty, Luis, 2017, Taxonomy of Paleozoic radiolarian genera, pp. 419-502 in Geodiversitas 39 (3) on page 487, DOI: 10.5252/g2017n3a4, http://zenodo.org/record/520658

Investigation of Lagrangian coherent structures in a wake-induced boundary layer transition

    No full text
The evolution of coherent structures in a flat plate boundary layer transition induced by the cylinder wake is investigated using the particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique. The finite-time Lyapunov exponent (FTLE), which characterizes the amount of stretching about the flow trajectory, is used to extract the Lagrangian coherent structures. It is revealed that secondary vortex is induced by the cylinder wake vortices in the near wall region, which would evolve into hairpin vortex as it convects downstream. The subsequent evolvement of the hairpin vortex, characterized by the regeneration of offspring hairpin vortex upstream of it, leads to the appearance of the hairpin packet and the boundary layer finally reaches a turbulent state
