No full textEwa Rzetelska-Feleszko (1932-2009), Professor at the Institute of Slavic Studies of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Warsaw. She was born in 1932 in Warsaw. She is the author of approximately 340 publications, including several books of her own and several as co-author. She was also the author of the concept and scientific editor of two onomastic synthesis: Polish propernames. Encyclopedia (1998) and Slavonic onomastics. Encyclopedia, vol. 1 and 2 (2002, 2003), and editor of several books. In addition, she was a member of national and international scientific organizations, such as The International Committee of Onomastic Sciences - ICOS, the International Society for Dialectology and Geo-linguistic. In certain Polish committees she acted as president or a member of the presidium. Ongoing scientific research: dialectology, onomastics and the history of the Polish language and western-Slavic languages, and in particular the tużyce, Kaszuby and Pomorze dialects; multi-directional onomastic research concerning multiple categories of naming and different issues: theoretical, structural, cultural; the issues of national and ethnic minorities; manuals of linguistic-polish and Slavonic philology. She was an expert and a reviewer in Committees (among others The Commission of Determining Local and Physio-graphic Names - KUNMiOF), reviewer, in doctoral, habilitations and Professor proceedings. Urodziła się w 1932 roku w Warszawie. Jest autorką około 340 publikacji, w tym kilku książek własnych, kilkunastu książek we współautorstwie. Była też autorką koncepcji i redaktorem naukowym dwóch syntez onomastycznych: Polskie nazwy własne. Encyklopedia (1998) i Słowiańska onomastyka. Encyklopedia, 1.1 i 2 (2002, 2003), a także redaktorem kilku książek. Ponadto była członkiem krajowych i międzynarodowych organizacji naukowych, np. International Committee (Council) of Onomastic Sciences - ICOS, International Society for Dialectology and Geolinguistic. W niektórych gremiach polskich pełniła funkcje przewodniczącej lub członka prezydium. Prowadzone badania naukowe: dialektologia, onomastyka oraz historia języka polskiego i języków zachodniosłowiańskich, w tym zwłaszcza łużyckiego, kaszubszczyzny, dialektów pomorskich; wielokierunkowe badania onomastyczne dotyczące wielu kategorii nazewniczych i różnej problematyki: teoretycznej, strukturalnej, kulturowej; problematyka mniejszości narodowych i etnicznych; przewodniki językoznawcze - polonistyczny i slawistyczny. Była ekspertem i recenzentem w Komisjach (m.in. Komisja Ustalania Nazw Miejscowych i Obiektów Fizjograficznych - KUNMiOF), recenzentem w przewodach doktorskich, habilitacyjnych i do tytułu profesora. No full textThe author shares his reflections on state of art in housing and urban planning, deficiencies, expectations and possibilities in the Sahel region of Africa. He notices, that the housing problem in Africa is one of the challenges, which should be solved in order to recover life dignity of African people and secure their rights to traditional family life in acceptable conditions. The paper describes the studies on the typical dispersed urban structures and the need to foster this type of settlement structure and proposals of introduction of new on light steel frame housing system in the area of Sahel, combining the traditional way of building houses with modern technology. The particularly analysed case, is the housing problem in the Republic of Chad. The author presents the basic discussion on this topic and his architectural proposals. Unfortunately, the gap between the needs and the financial feasibility of housing construction in this area, makes this project already at the starting point extremely difficult to be realized without external subventions.Problem mieszkaniowy w Afryce jest jednym z wyzwań, które należy rozwiązać, aby Afrykanie mogli odzyskać godność życiową i zabezpieczyć swoje prawa do tradycyjnego życia rodzinnego w akceptowalnych warunkach. W artykule opisano badania nad typowymi rozproszonymi strukturami miejskimi i potrzebą wspierania tego typu struktur osadniczych oraz propozycji wprowadzenia nowego systemu konstrukcji domów, opartym na lekkim szkielecie stalowym, łączącym tradycyjny sposób budowania domów z nowoczesną technologią. Przypadkiem szczególnie analizowanym jest problem mieszkaniowy w Republice Czadu. Autor przedstawia podstawową dyskusję na ten temat i swoje propozycje architektoniczne. Niestety luka między potrzebami mieszkaniowymi w Czadzie a finansową wykonalnością budownictwa mieszkaniowego w tym obszarze sprawia, że projekt ten, już w punkcie wyjścia, jest niezwykle trudny do realizacji bez uzyskania zewnętrznych dotacji
Nonspecific immunomodulators for recurrent respiratory tract infections, wheezing and asthma in children: A systematic review of mechanistic and clinical evidence
No full textPurpose of review To provide an overview of the mechanistic and clinical evidence for the use of nonspecific immunomodulators in paediatric respiratory tract infection (RTI) and wheezing/asthma prophylaxis. Recent findings Nonspecific immunomodulators have a long history of empirical use for the prevention of RTIs in vulnerable populations, such as children. The past decade has seen an increase in both the number and quality of studies providing mechanistic and clinical evidence for the prophylactic potential of nonspecific immunomodulators against both respiratory infections and wheezing/asthma in the paediatric population. Orally administered immunomodulators result in the mounting of innate and adaptive immune responses to infection in the respiratory mucosa and anti-inflammatory effects in proinflammatory environments. Clinical data reflect these mechanistic effects in reductions in the recurrence of respiratory infections and wheezing events in high-risk paediatric populations. A new generation of clinical studies is currently underway with the power to position the nonspecific bacterial lysate immunomodulator OM-85 as a potential antiasthma prophylactic. Summary An established mechanistic and clinical role for prophylaxis against paediatric respiratory infections by nonspecific immunomodulators exists. Clinical trials underway promise to provide high-quality data to establish whether a similar role exists in wheezing/asthma prevention
