Implementation and Progress of Telemedicine in Poland: Comparative Analysis with EU Member States
Theoretical background: Telemedicine has become a critical component of modern healthcare, offering the potential to improve patient outcomes, streamline clinical workflow, and facilitate more informed decision-making. Its implementation in healthcare systems offers the opportunity to leverage technology to improve access, efficiency, and quality of care. Purpose of the article: This study aims to investigate the implementation of telemedicine in the Polish healthcare system and assess its adoption in comparison with other EU countries. It also aims to assess the impact of the rate of adoption of teleconsultations as a percentage of all consultations in Poland on the quality and accessibility of healthcare in comparison with other EU member states.Research methods: This research used a literature-based approach, analyzing existing scientific articles, government reports and OECD data to understand the current state of telemedicine in Poland and EU countries. Data on the implementation rate of medical teleconsultations as a percentage of all consultations were collected from national healthcare databases and Eurostat.Main findings: The study highlights the urgent need to prioritize telemedicine in Poland to enhance healthcare efficiency. Poland’s teleconsultation rate (25%) and digitized health records (41%) lag behind leading EU nations such as Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands, which have higher telemedicine adoption and fully digitized records. The low adoption rate in Poland contributes to inefficiencies, administrative burdens, and healthcare disparities, especially in rural areas. Countries with advanced telemedicine systems demonstrate improved patient outcomes, reduced hospital congestion, and optimized resource allocation. Strategic measures, including infrastructure development, policy reforms, and digital education, are essential for Poland’s healthcare modernization

Effects of vegetation density, arrangement, and morphology on flow structure under ice-covered condition
Aquatic vegetation appears very often in rivers and floodplains, which significantly affects the flow structure. On the other hand, a common feature of cold regions is the presence of river ice on water surfaces. Ice cover imposes an additional boundary layer on water surface which leads to significant change in flow structure and bed deformation. It also causes a decreasing trend of velocity profile near the cover. Because of vegetation’s positive impacts on water quality, habitat, and channel stability, researchers now advocate replanting and restoring projects in rivers, especially in agricultural waterways, floodways, and emergency spillways. The expansion of vegetation in fluvial systems may worsen the flood impact since highly dense vegetation in a channel reduces its flow capacity due to the increase in flow resistance and decrease in the channel width. Therefore, an accurate and critical assessment of the vegetation density and distribution pattern through reduction of bulk velocity is crucial in sustainable restoration projects. To the author's knowledge, no studies have been conducted to investigate the impacts of both ice cover and vegetation on flow resistance and channel bed deformation. It is thus necessary to examine the connection between vegetation and ice covers thoroughly in order to guarantee successful restoration projects. Most of research projects on submerged vegetation have been done in small-scale laboratory flume and specifically under the open channel flow condition. Besides, most of reported research uses uniform sediment which is not an appropriate representative of natural river systems. In the present study, deflected and non-bending model vegetation elements arranged in both square and staggered configurations with different density in the channel bed with three different non-uniform sands under different cover conditions of water surface including open channel flow and ice-covered flow conditions were used. In order to simulate the ice cover condition, smooth and rough ice covers made of Styrofoam panels were created to investigate the impacts of ice cover roughness on channel bed deformation. To represent non-uniform sediment condition, three different bed materials with median particle size (D50) of 0.50 mm, 0.60 mm, 0.98 mm were used. Results showed that the most significant variable influencing the depth of scour holes under ice-covered flow conditions is the ratio of the ice cover roughness to the bed roughness and in open channel flow conditions, the flow Froude number is determining. In the conducted experiments, it was consistently observed that the maximum scour depths occurred at the upstream, front face of the vegetation elements. It was found that the scour holes were deeper and longer under ice-covered flow. In the presence of vegetation in the bed under ice-covered flow conditions, the velocity profiles exhibit a distinct pattern characterized by two peak
values. The study revealed an inverse relationship between canopy density and the dimensions of the wake zone. As the spacing distance between deflected vegetation elements decreases, the streamwise velocity experiences significant retardation slightly below the inflection point. With a sparser vegetation canopy, the inflectional region tends to diminish or disappear. Furthermore, the study observed that the inflection point was not observed in non-bending vegetation. Additionally, velocity profiles showed more pronounced inflection points in the case of a staggered arrangement of vegetation elements compared to a square arrangement. Results of this study will provide vital information for river management, channel restoration, and rehabilitation of fluvial environments through understanding the effect of various vegetation densities, arrangement patterns and morphology, as well as the revitalization of cold-weather river ecosystems
From mega-events hosting to scientific leadership: A seven-decade scientometric analysis of pioneer countries
Mega-events have always been an attractive topic for sports management academics. We used scientometric software packages to look at the studies on this topic that have been added to the Web of Science database in the last 68 years. Not only did we give an overview of the background information of the researchers, the status of their collaborations, and the countries and institutions they represented, but we also pointed out active and influential publication sources on this topic. We focused on the Olympic Games and other sports mega-events like the FIFA World Cups, as well as the environmental, tourism, economic, social, political, and cultural aspects of these events. We also made a list of the countries, organizations, and scholars who have made important contributions to the field. Researchers in sports management and sporting event hosts can both use this study as a guide for their own work. © 2023 The Author(s). At the end of the assignment, the translation will be compared with a translation already available on the literary market, completed by an expert translator. The theoretical framework defines the history of translation in general, summarizes literary translation, and details the translation tools that will be used throughout the assignment: translation problems, translation strategies, and techniques
Potential for leverage between the quality management and knowledge management professional communities : an intellectual capital mapping
This research describes the problems facing two important professional communities,
Quality Management (QM) and Knowledge Management (KM), which face multiple
challenges in their efforts to impact the organisations in which they operate and
contribute significantly to their performance and financial results. The two
communities are positioned at very different points in their maturity life cycle. While
QM is an aging community that is trying to regain its relevancy, the KM community is
still in its infancy, and is struggling to mature. Many practitioners and academics
consider both to be "over promising and under delivering".
The aim of this research is to explore how the two communities can enhance their
effectiveness. As a theoretical framework the author used the concept of Intellectual
Capital, which is usually used in the context of formal organisations, and applied it to
the case of professional communities. The hypothesis states that the two
communities have complementary Intellectual Capitals, i. e. that the intangible assets
of each can be shared and exchanged through different patterns of interaction. An
investigation was conducted into whether the flows of such intangible assets between
Quality Management (QM) and Knowledge Management (KM) can increase their
organisational effectiveness.
The research surveyed the scientific as well as professional literature and classified
the evidence on QM/KM interactions into twelve patterns that cover the spectrum,
from complete ignorance of each other to full co-operation.
Two case studies are explored, where explicit efforts to encourage flows of
Intellectual Capital were demonstrated, one at a company level and the other at a
national level.
A unique methodology and visual tool, to map the Intellectual Capital of professional
communities, was developed and used to draw a generic map of the complementary
ICs of QM and KM and the potential flows between them, as perceived by a diverse
body of experts from both communities.
Finally, a series of (computer aided) focus groups were held with professionals.
Based on triangulation of the data between the 14 expert interviews, 2 in-depth case
studies, 68 focus group attendees and the literature, the following contributions to
knowledge were identified:
0 Creation of a new scheme to classify interactions between professional
communities.
O The application of the Intellectual Capital concept to professional
communities.
Q New insights into the situation of QM and KM communities using the
framework of Intellectual Capital, and the complementary nature of their
intangible assets.
Q New perspective on flows of Intellectual Capital between different entities
(in this case professional communities) as a way to increase the
effectiveness of both.
QA new methodology to self-assess and map Intellectual Capital
