Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Detecting materials properties by vibration technique
Access is limited to UniMAP community.This project is made to study about detecting materials structure through vibration technique. Apart from that, different test is carried out to define the mechanical properties of
material. Two types of material are used in this project which is Aluminum and Mild Steel and each of materials has two different thicknesses. Thickness for Aluminum is 0.5 and 1.0mm while
Mild Steel is 1.0 and 1.2mm. For this research, it consists of two testing in order to define
material structure and mechanical properties of material. The testing is destructive and nondestructive
test. Destructive test is made to define the mechanical properties of materials such as
ultimate stress (σu), fracture stress (σf) and yield stress (σy). In destructive testing, tests are
carried out to the specimen's failure, in order to understand a specimen's structural performance
or material behavior under different loads. For non-destructive test, it usually provides a more
reliable assessment of the state of the test object. Destruction of the test object usually makes this
type of test more costly to the test object's owner than non-destructive testing. Modal Analysis
has been choosed as non-destructive test in order to study material structure which is natural
frequency (ωn). This project is successful in predicting the materials properties via vibration
technique
Detecting structural steel damaged using non destructive testing
Access is limited to UniMAP community.This project investigates the methods to identify and further analyze the capability of Non Destructive Testing (NDT) in detecting the damage and undamaged of material structure.
The Modal Analysis methods used to determine early detection of structural steel damage.
The damaged and undamaged of structural steel are used to correlate between the wave
transmissibility. In this experiment, the steel plates with the different thickness are used as
the specimens and LMS Test Xpress software is utilized to analyze the signal capture.
Impact hammer and LMS SCADAS Mobile will be use as Data Acquisition system in this
experiment. The result of the experiment indicates that the changes in dynamic
characteristics such as natural frequencies are capable to distinguish the undamaged and
damaged of structural steel plate
The study of material stress concentration
Access is limited to UniMAP community.In this project, investigation of stress concentration factor is carried out. Some
specimens with shoulder fillets and circular holes are involved with the machining
process according to the dimensions. An axial force is applied to the member; it creates
a complex stress distribution within a localized region of the point of load application.
The complex distribution arises when there are concentrated loading and changes of the
member’s cross sectional area. Thus, if there is a change in shapes or loading in
member, the stress distributions also will be change. This study investigated the stress
concentration of different materials with different shapes. The laboratory experiments
for the strain measurement were conducted and the maximum stress, average stress and
stress concentration factor (K) were determined. The stress concentration factor (K)
value is compared between the theoretical values found in standard K value chart with
the experimental results. Also with the help of computational method, the software
analysis was followed up to compare among the overall K values in these three methods.
In the end, some recommendations are made for the future investigation
Heat treatment effects on mild steel’s mechanical properties
Access is limited to UniMAP community.This report is determining the heat treatment effect on material mechanical
properties. Mild steel is the most common form of steel as its price is relatively low
while it provides material properties that are acceptable for many applications. It can
be heat treated to produce the desired microstructure and properties. The desired
results are accomplished by heating and cooling at the specified temperature. The
annealing and normalizing heat treatments method on mild steel have been
investigated in this paper. The purpose of this study is investigating the mechanical
properties of mild steel after full annealing and normalizing. After heat treatment
process, the mild steel’s microstructure has been changed to pearlite and ferrite. The
elongation of mild steel after full annealing process is higher than normalizing process.
However, the ultimate strength and hardness of mild steel after normalizing is greater
than full annealing
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
