University-level learning is currently aimed at encouraging students to master high-level skills such as scientific literacy and critical thinking skills. This study aimed to determine the differences in scientific literacy and critical thinking among students before and after being taught using the Group Investigation-Mind Mapping (GI-MM) model. This quasi-experimental study used a one-group pretest-posttest design. The study population comprised of 55 students enrolled in a biochemistry course. Using the cluster random sampling technique, one class (19 students) was selected as the research sample. The instruments used in this study were multiple-choice written test questions to measure students' scientific literacy, and essay-type written test questions to measure students' critical thinking. Descriptive and inferential analyses were used for data analysis (paired t-test). The results showed that all indicators of students' scientific literacy improved after implementation of the GI-MM model, with an average increase of 40.04%. In addition, the mean pretest and posttest scores for the five indicators of students' critical thinking showed significant improvement after implementation of the GI-MM learning model, with an average increase of 61.43%. The paired t-test results reinforced the finding that there were significant differences in the students' scientific literacy and critical thinking skills before and after being taught using the GI-MM learning model

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Tondok Bakaru Village faces challenges due to limited environmental literacy among its residents. This community service program aimed to enhance environmental literacy through a comprehensive educational initiative. The implementation method consisted of three stages: planning, program execution, and evaluation. The program was conducted from December 2024 to February 2025, involving 29 participants from the Tondok Bakaru Village community. The material covered includes the concept of environmental literacy, its significance, dimensions of environmental literacy, and strategies for developing environmental literacy within the community. Evaluation results demonstrate significant improvements in three aspects of environmental literacy, with average scores of 70 for environmental knowledge, 74 for environmental attitudes, and 80 for environmental behavior. Participant satisfaction questionnaires yielded an average score above 4.83 on a 5-point scale, indicating the program's success in enhancing understanding and motivating the community to adopt environmentally friendly practices

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

The Mandar tribe of West Sulawesi maintains well-preserved cultural traditions, including the ritualized use of diverse plant species imbued with symbolic values (ussul) and local ecological knowledge. This study aimed to: (1) identify plant species utilized in the wedding and seven-month ceremonies of the Mandar people in Majene Regency; (2) analyze the symbolic significance (ussul) of each plant from the Mandar cultural perspective based on the Relative Frequency of Citation (RFC) index; and (3) develop an ethnobotanical e-catalog using the ADDIE model as a biology learning resource on biodiversity for Grade X senior high school students. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through semi-structured interviews, direct observation, and documentation involving 21 key informants (customary leaders, traditional shamans, and community members) in the Mangge and Kalasa neighborhoods of Totoli Village, Banggae District, Majene Regency, from April to July 2025. Plant identification was conducted using PlantNet, Plants of the World Online (POWO), and Plantamor. Results revealed 21 species from 16 families in the wedding ceremony and 9 species from 8 families in the seven-month ceremony, predominantly herbs and trees. Seven species recorded the highest RFC values (RFC = 1.00): Cocos nucifera, Piper betle, Areca catechu, Curcuma longa, Oryza sativa, Musa sp., and Eragrostis tenella, each bearing distinct ussul reflecting the philosophy of Mandar life. The findings were compiled into an e-catalog developed through the Analysis, Design, and Development stages of the ADDIE model, validated as highly valid (M = 4.62 out of 5.0) by subject-matter and cultural experts, and deemed suitable as a biology learning resource on biodiversity
